Poland is a beautiful country situated invery heart of Europe.

Its population is estimated at 38million,total area is 312,685sq.km.

Poland became part of EU (2004),furthermore became part of the SchengenArea (2007).

The official currency is Polish Zloty.

Poland is on Central European Time.

Cracow is a place with a historical past, dating as far back

as a millennium, a city of kings, national heroes and

artists. It is the seat of Poland’s oldest university.

At present, Cracow boasts over twenty institutions of

higher learning. It is a city of more than a hundred

churches and scores of other priceless relics of history.

It also is Poland’s second largest agglomeration in terms

of area and population after Warsaw.

Cracow is featured on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In

2000 it was designated as one of European Capitals of

Culture, in 2007 Orbitz, an American internet agency,

proclaimed Cracow the most fashionable city of the world.

John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice

Cracow Airport is situated about 11 km west of Cracow’s centre. Its location in the immediate vicinity of the regional roads and the A4 motorway facilitates access from various parts of the region and Poland.

GPS coordinates N: 50° 4' 21" E: 19° 48' 21"

Next International Airport (Pyrzowice) is situated about 1h 15 min (100 km) from centre of Cracow.

Arriving by train - Cracow main railway station (Dworzec Główny) is situated on the edge of the Old Town. Beside domestic communication have direct connections with European cities like: Vienna, Berlin, Hamburg, Prague, Budapest.

Auditorium Maximum

Auditorium Maximum is a lecturetheatre complex of JagiellonianUniversity, located in the centre city10 min. walk from Market Square.

It offers various conference roomsand space ideal for exhibition andcatering.

- the main theatre for 1200 persons (which can be divided into two smaller ones for 600 persons each),

- one lecture room for 250 persons,

UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978.

One of Poland’s national symbols.

Wawel is dominated by two immense edifices: the Gothic Royal Cathedral with royal tombs and famous Sigismund Bell Tower and the Castle – former

Royal Residence with the arcaded courtyard of rare beauty.

The Cloth Hall - Sukiennice

The Cloth Hall – a rare example of a medieval structure that has for centuries served as a commercial centre.

Nowadays an art gallery is located on the upper floor while the lower covered arcades are taken up by numerous stalls selling souvenirs

and craft works.

St. Mary’s BasilicaInside the church we can admire the high altar by Wit Stwosz (Veit

Stoss) – the largest gothic altar in Europe.

The huge gothic St. Mary's Basilica is dominated on the north side of the Main Square. Every hour from its taller tower we can hear a

trumpeter playing the famous Cracow bugle-call.

The Barbican

The Barbican it’s a part of city fortifications one of the very few surviving structures of its kind in Europe.

Built in 1489-1499 as an additional protection of the Florian Gate.

Green City

Planty is a city park which surrounds the Old Town. The park is dotted with numerous monuments and fountains, and is one of the

favourite outdoor venues for Cracovians and tourists alike.

Royal Route is one of the most beautiful and famous routes in Poland. It retraces the path followed by Polish kings heading for their Residence

on the Wawel Hill. It runs across the most magnificent sites of Cracow’s Old Town.

Jagiellonian University

The old university district is one of the must-see spots in the Old Town - you will have a chance to visit the picturesque courtyard of Collegium

Maius and see the statue of Nicolas Copernicus, the famous astronomer.

Cracow prides itself on the oldest university in Poland.

It's called the Jagiellonian University and was founded by King Casimir the Grea in 1364.

The Mounds

The Mounds of Cracow are inscribed in the landscape of the city and its environs and are a tourist attraction in themselves. There are four

mounds in Cracow, and in this respect the city holds the Polish record.

The oldest are the Krakus and Wanda Mounds, younger and most popular is the Tadeusz Kościuszko Mound, and the youngest and

largest – the Józef Piłsudski Mound.

St Mary’s Church Tower every hour, Cracow’s florists, pigeons flying over the Market Square, traditional pretzels and magic cabs.

Juliusz Słowacki TheaterPoland’s epicentre of coultural and artistic life.

The theatre has been continuously staging plays since 1893.

Cracow currently weighing in with 11 major theatres, over 40 museums, Cracow Opera, Cracow Philharmonic.

The Cracow Opera

The Cracow Opera’s repertoire includes the world’s and Poland’s greatest operatic works, ballet performances, operettas, and music shows directed at young

audiences. It stages about 200 performances a year, with 98% of seats occupied.

During the Summer Festival, the Cracow Opera uses an outdoor stage located in the Arcaded Courtyard of the Wawel Castle, which has witnessed

the spectacular performances.

Cracow Philharmonic

A symphony orchestra can be traced here to 1909, but the Cracow Philharmonic as it is today was born in 1945.

The concert hall contains a magnificent organ by Johannes Klais-Orgelbau Bonn which was installed in 1996 to replace an older organ destroyed by

fire in 1991.

Museum of Pharmacy

Founded in 1946, JU Museum of Pharmacy is the greatest in

Poland and one of few similar museums in the world.

Furnished with original pharmacy equipment, it can boast an extremely rich collection amounting to 20 000 exhibits medicinal

herbs. The museum has its own library.

Free time

If you are in Cracow you should sit down in one of the restaurants’ gardens to relax and feel the unique atmosphere of the place.

Cracow is an eating, drinking and partying paradise - the Old Town is tightly packed with pubs, bars and cafes (300 of them). Recently, also the Jewish district of Kazimierz has become a lively place, especially during the evening.
