Randolph County School District Transportation Department ___________________________ Offering Summer Classes to Obtain your School Bus License Training Dates: June 24 th – 27 th July 15 th – 18 th Requirements: 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. 1. CDL Alabama Drivers License – with PS Endorsement – In order to receive a CDL to drive a school bus, a prospective school bus driver must secure a Third Party Tester Form and/or a permit. This form/permit can be secured from any CDL office( Jacksonville(256) 435-7006 /Opelika (334) 742-9986 ) locations in Alabama. The form/permit is given to drivers who do not currently hold a CDL, need to upgrade their CDL, or need to add passenger (P) or school bus (S) endorsements. In order to be issued this form/permit, prospective school bus drivers must pass four written CDL tests at the CDL office . These tests include General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Transporting Passengers, and School Buses. Study materials for these four tests can be found in the Alabama Commercial Driver License Manual . This manual can be secured from any local driver license office or any CDL office. In preparation for the four tests noted above, the prospective driver should study sections 1-5 and section 10 in the CDL manual. There is a fee for taking the written tests. There is no fee for performance testing. Upon passing these written tests, the prospective driver will be issued the Third Party Tester Form.–Please call ahead for requirements (There are several online manual downloads and practice tests). https://driving- tests.org/alabama/al-cdl-handbook/ https://driving-tests.org/alabama/#cdltests 2. Alabama School Bus Driver Physical Exam (forms available at the Bus Barn-526 Weathers Height Street) or Alabama DOT physical (for out-of-state driving) 3. Background check - ALSDE – Cogent website - https://cogentid.3m.com/AL (paperwork information also at Bus Barn) 4. Pre-employment Drug Test – (forms available at the Bus Barn-526 Weathers Height Street) 5. GMAIL account (we will help with this) – to be able to register for AIM account : AFTER obtaining your CDL learners license- register in AIM (we will help you with this), then complete an Alabama School Bus Driver Certificate application via the AIM online portal: www.alsde.edu , then click on Pupil Transportation Certification portal and wait for supervisor approval. 6. 12 hour training class (by Transportation Supervisor-Benny Floyd) at one of the above dates – call Transportation Office for more information and to register 256-357-4711. 7. For more information concerning School Bus Drivers License and for HELPFUL information concerning requirements. https://www.alsde.edu/sec/pt/Pages/busdriver-all.aspx Once you have obtained and completed the above requirements you must complete a 12 hour class from the State. This is a 3 day class and then the driver’s test will be scheduled. You must have met ALL the requirements and sign up for the class 14 days BEFORE the State class. The closest class offered this summer is in Talladega. State Training Dates: July 22nd – July 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A road test will be scheduled upon successful completion of the 3 day State training class.
