1 Samuel 28 1 And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men.

Not a request

2 And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head for ever.

You are fixing to see what I can do!David sounds cocky, but he is

in a tight place.

Will he fight against his brothers, the Israelites?

3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.

Samuel had been the Voice of God unto Saul.

Wizards and others with familiar spirits claimed to be able to talk to the dead or to other spirits.

Understand that any power they had came from demon

spirits.

4 And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa.

God is not speaking to Saul, and Saul is scared.

5 And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled. 6 And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

Backsliders are always scared!

And well they should be!!

God won’t answer their prayers;

He doesn’t even talk kindly to them.

There’s no fellowship.

Job 34 26 He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others; 27 Because they turned back from Him, and would not consider any of His ways: No blessing.

Plenty of trouble!

Psalm 85 8 I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for He will speak peace unto His people, and to His saints: but let them not turn again to folly.

Proverbs 14 14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

Sin is folly.

God doesn’t have to punish a backslider.

The results of his own ways are punishment enough.

Hebrews 10 38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, My Soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

One who is born into the family of God by the Power of the Holy Spirit will always be saved.

But we can choose to walk obediently unto God and His Holy Scriptures,

Or we can turn back unto our own ways.

King Saul turned from God and walked in his own prideful arrogance.

He is now at his time of reckoning, and he is afraid.

God is silent toward him.Instead of repenting and drawing nigh to God,he seeks another answer.

7 Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

She claimed to speak with the dead.

They were camped very near Endor.

8 And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.

Saul has hitGod won’t talk to

him, so he goes to one who communes

with evil spirits.

Be careful where you seek answers.

And men and women who know

and live God’s Word.

Blessed answers and a blessed

life.

You will be led farther astray from the Good Ways of God, and into sin and trouble.

God loves you!If you are not yet His child, He loves you and

wants to save you from sin and from hell.

He wants to bring you into His family.

If you believe in the God of the Bible and His Son, Jesus Christ,

Just ask the Lord to save you, and He Will.

He will save you from sin and from hell,

And you will be born of the Spirit of God.

God loves you!If you are already a son or daughter of God, but

have been walking in your own way,

Choosing to turn from God’s Way --

God loves you and wants to restore you to fellowship with Him and with the church.

James 4 8 Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
