1. Store Name
Don’t forget to enter your store name to your magento store.
How to do that:
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Then go to general tab from the left sidebar and open Store
information section
● Input your store details into the fields.
2. Home page title and meta data
Optimising Magento home page title and meta data are made very easy. You
don’t need any development skills and you can edit the page title by following
a few steps below:
● Go to Magento > CMS > Manage Pages
● Chose the home page (usually the one with ‘home’ as url key)
● Go to General Information tab on the left sidebar and edit the Page

3. Logo image Alt description
Alt description of the store image logo helps search engine to be able to read
and understand what the image is about.
How to set it up:
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Design from the sidebar navigation and then go to header
section.
● Change Logo Image Alt value there.
4. SEO Friendly URLs (SEF URLs)
SEO Friendly URLs is one of the most important features of every
eCommerce store, don’t forget to enable and test it.
How to enable this feature:
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Web from the sidebar navigation and then go to Search Engines
Optimization section.
● Change Use Web Server Rewrites value to “Yes”
5. Unsecure and secure base URLs
Many site owners want customers to be able to access their Magento catalog
via normal http protocol, but switch over to https (secure) protocol for
checkouts. This helps secure the data and prevent snooping or insecure data
collection that can result in identity theft or other malicious activities.
How to set this up:
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Web from the sidebar navigation and then go to Unsecure
section.
● change the base URL value
● go to Secure section.
● change the base URL value
6. Auto-redirect to Base URL
Under “Unsecure” and “Secure” you can find the Base URL, where you can
set the preferred domain. You can choose between the www and the non-
www version of the URL. Follow the steps below to set up permanent redirect
to your base URL.
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Web from the sidebar navigation and then go to URL options
section.
● Change Auto-redirect to Base URL value to “301 redirect (Moved
permanently)”
7. Products meta data and URL key
● Go to Catalog > Manage Products from your admin panel.
● Click on the product you want to edit
● insert your URL Key
● Navigate to meta data tab and fill the meta data
8. Categories meta data and page title
● Go to Catalog > Manage Categories from your admin panel.
● Click on the category you want to edit from the left sidebar tree
● Fill out the Page Title, Meta Keywords, Meta Description, and URL

9. Canonical link for categories and products
How to set this up:
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Catalog from the sidebar navigation and then go to Search
Engine Optimization section.
● There are 2 options here. Change Use canonical link meta tag for
categories value to “Yes” or change Use canonical link meta tag for
products value to “Yes”. Please Note that you can’t set both of
them to “Yes”
10. Structure of product URLs
Preferred structure of product URLs. You can add categories to products
URLs or not.
How to set this up:
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Catalog from the sidebar navigation and then go to Search
Engine Optimization section.
● Change Use category Path For Product URLs value to “Yes”.
11. Google XML sitemap
How to generate an XML sitemap:
● Go to Catalog > Google Sitemap from your admin panel.
● Click Add Sitemap button on the top right
● Fill out all the fields and then click Save and Generate button
.
To check it, go to http://www.your-domain.com/sitemap.xml
12. Magento Default Sitemap
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Google Sitemap from the sidebar navigation and then go to
Generation Settings section.
● Change Enable value to “Yes”.
13. Remove SID from Magento URLs
Be careful, this feature allows customers to stay logged in when switching
between different multi-stores.
How to disable this feature:
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Web from the sidebar navigation and then go to Session
Validation Settings section.
● Change Use SID on Frontend value to “No”.
14. Permanent redirect rules
Your store can be configured to automatically generate a permanent redirect
whenever the URL key of a product changes. If your store is already
configured to automatically redirect catalog URLs, making a redirect is as
easy as updating the URL key.
How to disable this feature:
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Catalog from the sidebar navigation and then go to Search
Engine Optimization section.
● Change Create Permanent Redirect for URLs if URL Key Changed
value to “Yes”.
15. Default SEO values
How to configure this:
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Design from the sidebar navigation and then go to HTML Head
section.
● Change the value of marked fields in the image below
16. Default title separator
How to configure this:
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Catalog from the sidebar navigation and then go to Search
Engine Optimization section.
● Change Page Title Separator value to “-”.
17. Default product URL suffix
How to configure this:
● Go to System > Configuration from your admin panel.
● Click Catalog from the sidebar navigation and then go to Search
Engine Optimization section.
● Change Product URL Suffix and Category URL Suffix value to
“.html”.
