GettingintotheChristmasSpiritLastSunday,myfriendfromSt.Stephen’sandIhadameetingoverlunchtodiscusssomedetailsoftheupcomingSimbangGabi–NovenaofMasses–inpreparationforChristmas.All9Masseswillbecelebratedat6:00a.m.fromDecember16ththruthe24thatSt.StephenChurch(locatednearStonestownGaleria).Afterlunch,shethoughtthatweshouldcontinuetheChristmasSpiritbywatchingamovieaboutChristmas.ShepickedananimatedmoviefromSonycalled“TheStar.”ThetitlereferstothestarthatguidedtheshepherdsandtheMagitothestablewhereJesuswasborninBethlehem.Thestoryistoldfromthepointofviewofadonkey–thesameanimalthattookMaryandJosephtoBethlehem.Atfirst,thedonkeywasabeastofburdenthatwalkedincirclestopowertheflourgrinder,dayinanddayout.Itwasadrabexistencesohedreamtofdoing“somethingimportant”likejoiningtheroyalcaravan.Oneday,hemusteredenoughcouragetoescapetheflourmill.Hisownerwasfuriousdeterminedtogethimback.Thedonkeyhadafewmisadventureswithhiscompanions:abirdandasheep.Withgreat“misfortune,”hehurtaleg.ThiswaswhenhemetMarywhotendedtohisinjury.Marywaspregnantthenwiththe“promisedofages”–theMessiah.Joseph,Mary’sbetrothed,whowastheheadofhouseholdmusttraveltoBethlehemsincehewasofthefamilyofDavidforthemandatedcensuscount.Meanwhile,3WiseMenwerealsoheadingtowardBethlehemtomeetthisNewbornKing.Theypaida
