What is it’s purpose?

“Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a

helper suitable for him." 19 Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of

the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man

called a living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every

beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. …”

“…21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken

from the man, and brought her to the man. 23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man." 24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be

joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”

What is home?

•“Home is where the heart is”•“Home is where you hang your hat”

•One's dwelling place; abode of one's family; b. The social unit or center formed by a family living together; c. As an adverb: to the place where it belongs

“Home is the place where a world of strife has been shut out and a world of love shut in. Home is where the great is small and

the small is great. Home is the place where faults are hidden and virtues are exalted. Home is where our stomachs get three

meals a day and our hearts get a thousand. Home is the place where we complain the

most and have the greatest blessings. Home is the father's kingdom, the mother's world and the child's paradise. Homes are

vestibules of heaven.”

What is home?

•The family unit and the relationships that are associated with it–1 Timothy 5:4; 3:4-5“but if any widow has children or

grandchildren, they must first learn to practice piety in regard to their own family

and to make some return to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.”

“He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity 5 (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household,

how will he take care of the church of God?),”

What does the Bible say makes up a home?

•Man & his wife–Genesis 2:18; 3:16

•Children – Genesis 18:17-19•Things that are your own

–John 20:10

•Friends – Mark 5:19

“Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him

a helper suitable for him.”

“To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he

will rule over you.”

“The Lord said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, 18 since Abraham

will surely become a great and mighty nation, and in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed? 19 "For I have chosen him, so that

he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so

that the Lord may bring upon Abraham what He has spoken about him.”

“So the disciples went away again to their own homes.”

“Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had

mercy on you.”

What are the Responsibilities?

•Husband/Wife relationship–Genesis 2:18-24–Home begins with husband & wife

–Man & woman were made to be together•Genesis 2:23-24

“The man said, "This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be

called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man." 24 For this reason a man shall leave

his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”

12

What are the Responsibilities?

•Parent / Child relationship–Genesis 18:17-19

–Children must obey their parents•Ephesians 6:1; Luke 2:51-52

“The Lord said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, 18 since Abraham

will surely become a great and mighty nation, and in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed? 19 "For I have chosen him, so that

he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so

that the Lord may bring upon Abraham what He has spoken about him.”

Ephesians 6:4“Fathers, do not provoke your children

to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

Deuteronomy 6:6-7“These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 "You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie

down and when you rise up.”

Deuteronomy 11:18-21“"You shall therefore impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as

frontals on your forehead. 19 "You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up. 20 "You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 so that your days and the days of your sons may be multiplied on the land

which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens remain above the earth.”

Hebrews 11:23-27“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king's edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he had

grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, 25 choosing rather to endure ill-treatment

with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, 26 considering the reproach of

Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he left

Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing Him who is unseen.”

2 Timothy 3:14-15“You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of,

knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give

you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

2 Timothy 1:5“For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother

Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.”

“What children learn from their parents will stay with them always -

what parents fail to teach their children can never be taught by

someone else.”From Family Circus comics

“Not many things break down the morals of a country more quickly and cause more

lawlessness than disrespect for parents. If children disrespect parental authority, they will

disrespect all authority. If they have no regard for their parents, they are not likely to have regard for anything. But when such conditions prevail,

parents are not blameless. Obedience and respect are matters that have to be learned.

'Though he was a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered.'

Parents that do not try to train their children in right principles and good habits care very little

about them.”R. L. Whiteside, Commentary on Romans, p.45

Ephesians 6:4“Fathers, do not provoke your children

to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

1 Timothy 5:14 “Therefore, I want younger widows to get

married, bear children, keep house, and give the enemy no occasion for reproach;”

Titus 2:4-5“so that they may encourage the young

women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, pure, workers at

home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be

dishonored.”

Ephesians 6:1“Children, obey your parents in the Lord,

for this is right.”

Luke 2:51-52“And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to

them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus kept

increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”

2 Timothy 1:5“For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in

you as well.”
