Membership HIGHlights

2018 Tall Clubs International Delegates Meeting By Jim Nelson

The meeting began with President Carolyn Goldstein appointing Linda Ring as Parliamentarian and Clark Boggs as Sergeant at Arms. Tall Clubs International (TCI) has 39 clubs, and 44 Members at large bringing the membership to 1,105 tall people. We also approved three new members at large and a new/old club from Tulsa. The officers brought their reports in the Delegates manual for us to read and ask questions. The 2017 Convention books were being looked over by the Alt Treasurer. The TCI website, tall.org, is done by Megan Lukens. Due to Megan’s hard work, it is very impressive and personal. You can see pictures of current people and past members as well. The member password is 4Kae! (with the correct case). The Treasurer reported a balance of $2,834.57 in the checking account and $15,008.12 in the savings account. The budget for the new year will be given as well in the report. The Foundation reported giving out 16 scholarships plus the TCI scholarship for a total of 17 to new freshmen in colleges around the country. These scholar-ship recipients were chosen from 3,206 applications submitted. The 2017 minutes were approved and we continued to the Bylaw changes. Bylaw 2.3, 2.5, 3.1, 3.7, 4.1, 4.2, 6.3B, 6.3.1, 8.1, 8.1B, 8.1C, 8.1D, 8.1H, 8.1K and 11.1 all passed; Resolution #1 had three submitted changes and all were rejected. Pageant is still in; Resolutions #5, #7 and #9 all passed.

A fantastic event! The threat of rain dissipated, I don’t see how the weath-er could’ve been any better! Sixteen people were there; a few non-members eventually showed up. Nan gets the award for being the last to arrive and she left early to make up for arriving late! Four cars drove us from Milanne Bancroft’s to the White Sox’s parking lot, for a festive “tailgate party.” Dave Sandborn worked his magic on the grill, without starting his pants on fire. I goofed, by not bringing sea-weed to eat, a big disappointed for all the seaweed eaters that were in attendance. Milanne and Pat Sullivan were looking for condiments for the Polish Sausage; I told them I had some in my wal-let! Even my sister was there, she wanted to see what all hub bub was about. One thing that’s

bad about my sister is that she remembers all the punch lines from my vast collection of jokes. One thing I really like about Marty is that he laughs at my jokes, which encourages me, for-tunately he forgets most of the punch lines from my repartee of past jokes. Milanne & Dave now remember the punch lines and groan appropri-ately and tell me “that’s the stupidious joke I ever heard,” along with my sis-ter, it’s like they’re in ca-hoots. Dave S drove fast in a feeble attempt to lim-it my joke telling. The food supply was massive and deli-cious. Milanne and Dave got a 20’ flag pole to com-memorate this famous event. Whoever has the Paramount flag, needs to

get to Milanne. Another featured event was Jenga and bean bag tossing. Johnny “No Show” Ayl-ward said,”Why are you using those dinky bean bags? You should be using Bean Bag Chairs instead and build up your muscles.” He said ”I got that idea from watching two cowboys playing horse shoes with open end toilet seats.”

Take Me Out to the Ball Park … CHICAGO WHITE SOX VS. TORONTO BLUEJAYS

The White Sox’s lost in their usual dra-matic fashion. They were actually win-ning until the 9th inning when the Sox’s single pitcher “Rodan,” finally got tired and yes it was the same Rodan; the huge bird that fought Godzilla in a few famous movies of the past. The pitcher that replaced him should be embar-rassed to call himself a baseball player. The Bluejays scored five runs in the 9th. I don’t remember the last time I was in Sox Park to see them win, I think it was the 1980’s! I did all my imbibing (to excess) at the tail-gate party, rather than pay $10 for an in-park beer. I really don’t fit in the chairs at the ball park, my legs are too long, plus, getting up for tykes, beer drinkers and bathroom goers help keep my knees from seiz-ing. That’s when my Ti-tanium knees lock up. I was so glad the game didn’t go into extra in-nings! I told Johnny “No Show,” that on our way back from the To-ledo fishing trip we saw something you nev-er see, a motor boat on a trailer without a “For Sale,” sign on it. He said “that’s amazing,” but his boat still floats and is actually increasing in value due its advanced age, just like me. When we got back to Milanne’s, a lengthy lecture and discussion occurred regarding their Milkweed plants that attract Mon-arch Butterflies. We weren’t able to find any of these massive caterpillars chop-ping away on the Milkweed. I wish I had a plastic one to stick on the Milkweed. Or how about a Viceroy Butterfly that looks exactly like a Monarch and doesn’t like Milkweed? Linda C & I made a quick French exit so we wouldn’t get stuck cleaning up.
