You are what you share.1Creativity is incorrectly associated

as an individual quality even though it has been recentlyproven to be an inherently social activity in which people with di erent abilities and visions share and develop ideastogether.

Nobody doubts about the role o creativity as a generatoro social wel are. This idea has been in practice since twodecades ago and o cially recognized by Unesco rom 2004through the creation o the creative cities network.

The introduction o encouraging political and legalrameworks by the Unesco is not enough. Additionally, it

is o great importance that public and private initiativescollaborate together in order to encourage the creation andconsolidation o small companies networks. 2

The new communication technologies allow unlimitedgeographical collaborations. However it is undamental topromote physical places allowing di erent creative discipli-nes to work together and to have unplanned interactions.

In neighborhoods that requires a social and economic re-

generation big investments need to be done in the creationand maintenance o basic care centers (such as medical care, libraries and sports acilities...). These centers are essentialin order or the regeneration process to be a success. At thesame time, these neighborhoods need additional initiativesto help in a medium-term regeneration o the economic andproductive activities. The introduction o an independentcreative space would satis y this immediate need withoutrequiring big investments. 7

The regeneration o numerous historic centers in Spa-nish cities during the past 15 years was associated with thereal state bubble and responded to speculative interestthat ended displacing the poorest social sectors. As analternative, the Independent Creative Space is not intendedto replace the caring responsibility o a civic center but tocollaborate in the revitalization o urban and social environ-ments through generating economic activity. 8

Many cities requently have unique buildings in disuse or

various reasons that have come to be publicly owned. Therecovery o these buildings is linked to what is provided inurban planning or an answer to current citizen requests orcomplaints. The headquarters o Lepanto and the MilitaryHospital are the most outstanding examples o this kind oprojects in Crdoba.

These projects achievement is dependent on the avai-lability o unding, which is the decisive actor or someprojects to be carried out. Sometimes even though thereis unding available or the rehabilitation o the buildings, there is not or the building maintenance over time (such asTorre de los Perdigones, Caseta del Crculo de la Amis-tad or Museo Regina). Under these circumstances, it isappropriate to consider models o public-private partnershipthrough management agreements. This will allow that localauthorities can recover and maintain these buildings withoutlosing ownership, and will also give individuals the chanceo having unique venues in the city.

An independent creative space needs public support at

its early stage to be implemented. Once established, themost appropriate management model is the non-proft

The initiatives success is bounded with an appropriatemanagement o the public resources assigned to users, which encourages a more responsible attitude rom them. Also, it helps to build a more transparent collaborationmodel between individuals and local authorities.
