Buckley and Composer James Curnow at 2:30 pm This concert will open with one of Lew’s favorite pieces, Alfred Reed’s Camino Real, followed by some music he will conduct for the first time, three movements of Julie Giroux’s Bookmarks from Japan and her brand new gorgeous, lyrical Riften Wed. Assistant Director James O’Dell will then take up the baton to lead us in a mad dash through Dana Wilson’s Shortcut Home, following which he will conduct Lew as trumpet soloist in the world premiere of Jim Curnow’s Romanza, which we commissioned in celebration of Lew’s 10th anniversary as our conductor. As usual in our Spring Concert, students of the many Met Winds teachers will join us for the second half, which will close with another “conductor’s favorite,” John De Meij’s rollicking At Kitty O’Shea’s.
