Introduction
Staphylococcus aureus i s t h e m o s t v e r s at i le a n d w e l l

Saccharomyces cerevisiae ( C a o e t a l . 2012).
Silica networks (fibers, spheres, core/shell, magnetic
hollow silica, or silica nanocomposites) have attracted
much attention in the last years due to their large specificsurface areas, very well-defined and uniform porosity,
i ne rt f ra me wo rk , a nd g oo d b io co mp at ib i li ty ( Xu e t a l .
2013; B ar ia na e t a l. 2013; C h e n e t a l . 2013; Benhamou
e t a l . 2013; Q i a n g e t a l . 2013; Roik and Belyakova 2013;
V oi cu e t a l. 2014) , a s w el l a s t o t he ir c ap ab il i ty t o i mp ro ve
the antimicrobial effect and to deliver different therapeutic
agents (Grumezescu et al. 2013; B er li er e t a l. 2013; V oi cu
e t a l. 2013; M ih ai es cu e t a l. 2013; B al au re e t a l. 2013;
Grumezescu et al. 2013; A re an e t a l . 2013). Recent studies
r ep or te d t ha t s il i ca n et wo rk s m ay b e u se d a s e ffi ci en t
shuttles for improving the efficiency of several ATB drugssuch as aminoglycosides, polymyxin, norfloxacin, and
cefotaxime (Anghel et al. 2012, 2014). Although their
e nh an ci ng e ff ec t o n t he a ct i vi ty o f s yn th et ic d ru gs h as
b ee n p ro ve d, c ur re nt l it er at ur e o ff er s v er y f ew d at a
regarding their abilityto stabilize and control the release of
natural products and compounds (Kaya et al. 2013).

Results and discussion
