*Spain had a difficult time stopping enslaved African Americans from escaping plantations and joining with the Seminoles

• In 1817 US Government sent Andrew Jackson to recapture slaves

• Jackson attacks Seminole villages killing and capturing • Jackson’s attacks showed Spain they could not control

*Mexico Breaks Away under an army of a Miguel Hidalgo in 1810

*Finally in 1821, Mexico wins freedom from Spain

*South and Central America fight for freedom but unlike the American Revolution, they did not unite to fight for freedom
