My Dear Brothers and Sisters, First of all, a Happy and Blessed Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful mothers! May you feel the love and appreciation of your families. With the recent modifications made by Governor Pritzker regarding churches as essential

businesses, we find ourselves in the position of being able to move one step closer to a little more normalcy in our

lives.

At this time, the diocese has told us that we still cannot hold public Masses but they are looking into what can be

done. We will see how this develops in the days and weeks ahead and will communicate any information or

changes as soon as we are notified.

On a positive note, we did get the green light to restore our drive-by blessings-- and so we will begin this practice

again at 11:00am each and every Sunday (shortly following the conclusion of the 9:30am live-stream Mass).

We will also be looking towards moving Confessions back inside the parish building. We may use the meeting

rooms with screens, or the confessionals. Look out for a Flocknote with further information.

On Monday May 4, we began the process of slowly reopening our facilities with shortened weekday hours. As a

safety precaution, the receptionist’s window will remain closed.

Beginning Monday, May 11, the parish office will return to normal weekday business hours. (Monday

through Thursday 9:30- 4:00; Friday 9:30- 12Noon).

Although regular parish activities cannot resume until we receive both state and diocesan permission, we will

open the main church for private prayer weekdays for the hours that the Parish Office is open. We will have

to closely monitor that everyone adheres to the state guidelines that no more than 10 people be in the church at

once and that all are maintaining a 6’ social distance as well as other recommended safety measures. We

appreciate your full cooperation in abiding by the restrictions. Reminder signs will be posted in the Narthex and

on the main doors.

Until we can open our doors more freely, we will continue to keep the monstrance upstairs on the second

floor with the Blessed Sacrament exposed for people to pray throughout the day and night. This has been such a

grace for an astounding number of both parishioners and non-parishioners alike.

And so, this is the plan for now. It is so good to be moving in the right direction. Please know of my continued

prayers for you and your families. I so look forward to seeing you all again soon! God bless!

Our Mother of Perpetual Help -- pray for us!

St. Joseph-- pray for us!

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton --pray for us!

In Jesus and Mary,

Fr. Grady

To Our Fellow Parishioners,

We want to thank you, our dear parishioners, for participating in the Easter Giving Tree. These gift cards will go a long way to sustain those who are less fortunate. Your love and generosity at Easter allows those in need to live better lives.

The blessings of The Easter Giving Tree totaled $2195.00!Thank you for bringing the love of Jesus to those in need! We also want to thank Jen McPeake and Maureen Terrazas for taking over the Giving Tree Ministry with very little prep. time! We appreciate you answering the call so the SVdP Society can continue to carry out the mission.

With your support, St. Vincent de Paul offers help and hope to our neighbors who face an immediate financial need.

Be assured of our prayers for your safety and well-being during these uncertain times. We look forward to the day we can all worship the good Lord together again in our parish home!

Thank you again for your generosity. May you be abundantly blessed! St. Vincent DePaul Society

Last month our staff and a few devoted parishioners made “check-in” phone calls to every registered parishioner at St. EAS. We had the chance to chat with many of you, and for those who did not answer, we left a message. There were some phone numbers that were no longer in service. If you did NOT receive a call from someone at the parish last month, we may not have updated contact information for you. Please call the parish office so we can check the information we have for you and

make sure everything is up to date.

Also, since we remain under the state stay at home order and many people are living alone or feeling isolated, we want to be here for you. If you would like to chat or just need a listening ear, let us know and someone will be happy to call you. Just email [email protected] and let us

know! We'd love to talk with you!

The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the love of a Mother. —St. Therese of Lisieux

This week, we have another saint martyred in the early days of the Church under the Emperor Diocletian early in the 4th century. This ‘Holy Helper’ is St. Vitus, also known as St. Guy. Saint Vitus (June 15); Martyr Vitus was born in Sicily to pagan parents who gave him over to the care of a Christian nurse named Crescentia and her husband, Modestus. They couple had Vitus baptized and raised him in the Faith. When Vitus returned to his father, who was a nobleman, the twisted man was enraged that his

son was a baptized Christian. He had his son scourged and then handed him over to the pagan governor. Crescentia and Modestus were also arrested. All three were tortured terribly, but they held firm in the Faith. They managed to escape prison and fled to Italy. Unfortunately they were arrested again under Diocletian’s Christian persecution. No tortures were able to conquer them, including boiling tar being poured on them, and being thrown to the lions in the Coliseum. This infuriated the emperor. The three were finally martyred when they were boiled to death in 303AD. Much of what we know about St. Vitus is of legend and accounts are varied. St Vitus is invoked for epilepsy, lethargy, the bites of poisonous or mad animals, protection of domestic animals, and storms. He was also invoked for chorea (a disorder characterized by brief, semi-directed irregular movements that are not repetitive or rhythmic, but appear to flow from one muscle to the next, thus simulating dancing.) The disease became known as “Saint Vitus’ Dance”. He is

also the patron saint of dancers and actors.

Something interesting to fill your stay-at-home time and enhance your faith!

Our world is deeply troubled: wars, terrorism, political and social unrest, family breakdown, mass migrations, moral confusion, and chaos. In the Church: faith has diminished, doctrines are denied, moral teachings ignored, scandals in the clergy cause real dismay and doubt. Featuring commentary and insights by Cardinal Raymond Burke and Bishop Mark Davies, and appealing to proven methods from the Church’s history, this film sets forth a powerful blueprint for revival in the Catholic Church, and thus a renewal in families, communities, and the world. It focuses on 5 key areas to drive this renewal: Catechesis, Liturgy, the Gospel of Life, Sanctity, and Mission. Also includes commentary from church leaders Fr. Marcus Holden, Fr. Andrew Pinsent, Joanna Bogle, and Jacob Phillips, and inspiring young adults speaking about their Catholic faith and

trust in Christ.

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC

O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O loving Mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon Himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen. Under thy protection we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In our needs, despise not our petitions, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Pray the Rosary every day

Below is a traditional prayer of spiritual communion. Use these words, or similar words that come from your heart, in order to receive Our Lord spiritually until the time that we can receive Him again in the Holy Eucharist.

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in

the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire

to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
