Linda M. Henshaw Arkport, N.Y. Linda M. Henshaw, 53, of The Oaks
passed away Friday (Sept. 24, 2010) at her home following a long
courageous battle with cancer. Born in Hornell, Oct. 12, 1956, the
daughter of Robert and Gladys Gordon Prouty, she had resided in
this area all her life. She was a 1974 graduate of Canisteo Central
School, and received her RN degree from the St. James Hospital
School of Nursing in 1985. She had been employed as an RN in the
Intensive Care Unit at St. James for 20 years, then as an Infection
Control Nurse and head of Quality & Risk Management at
St. James for 5 years. Linda will be remembered for her love of
her work and her family, especially her grandchildren, as well as
golf, the casinos and reading. She was predeceased by her father,
Robert Prouty, her brothers-in-law, Randy Plank, David Fowler Sr.
and Alan Wilder, sister-in-law, Marilynn Applebee, father and
mother-in-law, James Henshaw Sr., and Jean Henshaw, and her nephew,
Tim Czimback. She is survived by husband of 36 years, Stephen
Henshaw of Arkport, her mother, Gladys Prouty of Hornell, her
children, Angela Weber of Hornell, Robert (Crystal) Henshaw of
Hornell, Christopher (Emily) Henshaw of Hornell, and Danielle
Henshaw of Dansville, her grandchildren, Tyler Stephen Henshaw,
Breauna Marie Weber, Haylie Marie Henshaw, Jacob Robert Henshaw,
Chloee Mae Henshaw and a grandchild due in February 2011, her
sisters, Judy Plank of bath, Mary Prouty of Canisteo and Pamela
Prouty of Bergen, her brothers, Robert Prouty of Rome and David
Prouty of Florida, her half sisters, Gloria Wheatcraft and Deb.

Anderson, Sr. Almond, N.Y. Richard Anderson, Sr., 79, of 321 State
Route 21, Town of Almond, passed away Friday (Sept. 24, 2010) at
his home. Born in Fairport, Aug. 18, 1931, the son of George and
Olive Anderson, he had resided in the Rochester area until moving
to Hornell about 25 years ago. While living in Rochester, he was
employed as a landscaper for John Prouty Landscaping and Monroe
Developmental Center. Richard served his country as a member of the
United States Army. He was predeceased by his parents, four
brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Craig
Anderson; four daughters, Shirley (Joseph Crosson) Anderson of
Canisteo, Bonnie (Thomas Sr.) DuBois of Cohocton, Tammy (Clifford
Berry) Houghtaling of Cameron Mills, and Olive (Tom Bazil) Bradley
of Atlanta; two sons, Richard Anderson Jr. of Hornell, and Billy
Anderson of Wayland; his sister, Sylvia Skyner of Elmira; his
brother, Donald Jerry (Turna) Anderson of Georgia; 19
grandchildren and 45 greatgrandchildren. To send a remembrance

Robert E. McDaniels Hornell, N.Y. Robert E. McDaniels, 86, of 61
Adsit St., passed away Friday (September 24, 2010) at St. James
Mercy Hospital. Born in Hornell, Jan. 21, 1924, the son of Harold
J. and Lela M .Curry McDaniels, he had resided in Hornell nearly
all his life with the exception of time spent in California from
1964 to 1972. Bob will be remembered for being an avid life long
Mets Fan. Bob had been employed for several years at Corning Glass.
After his retirement, he worked for SCAP in Hornell for 13 years.
In June 1943, he married the former June Bayne, who predeceased him
on Aug. 23, 2010 He is survived by two daughters, Sue Ann (Glenn)
Hann of Hornell, and Deborah (Michael) Wheeler of Almond, two sons,
Robert (Paulette) McDaniels of Rochester and Thomas (Theresa)
McDaniels of California, one sister, Carolyn (Jack) Croston of
North Carolina, 12 Grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Fire Prevention & Safety Checklist The most effective way to
protect yourself and your home from fire is to identify and remove
fire hazards. Sixty-five percent of home fire deaths occur in homes
with no working smoke alarms. During a home fire, working smoke
alarms and a fire escape plan that has been practiced regularly can
save lives.Be Red Cross Ready Check smoke alarms monthly by pushing
the test button. Change the batteries in your alarm at least once a
year. Immediately install a new battery if an alarm chirps, warning
that the battery is low. Red Cross recommends changing batteries
when you set your clocks back, November 7. Teach children what the
smoke alarm sounds like and what to do when they hear it. Keep
smoke alarms clean by vacuuming over and around it regularly. Dust
and debris can interfere with its operation. Do not paint over your
smoke alarm as it could impair its function. Never disable a smoke
alarm. If your smoke alarm is sounding nuisance alarms, try
locating it further from kitchens or bathrooms. In addition, the
American Red Cross recommends that families create and practice a
home fire escape plan. Fire escape plans should include at least
two escape routes for every room in the home. Families should
choose a convenient meeting place outside of the home and practice
their escape plan at least twice a year with all family members.

October, 2010 is taking part in a North American effort to fund
the continuation of research which now shows that vitamin D
deficiency is strongly linked to a significantly elevated risk of
breast cancer. The campaign called DFeat Breast Cancer is being
supported by patrons of the professional indoor tanning community
across North America. Indoor tanners are being asked to donate $1
to $5 to support vitamin D-breast cancer research.
Indoor tanners have 90 percent higher vitamin D blood levels and
higher bone mineral density as compared with non-tanners, according
to a 2004 study published in the American Journal of Clinical
Nutrition. The public deserves fully funded vitamin D research,
deserves to hear about the profound importance of funding this work
to its conclusion, and we are doing our part, said owner of
