2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time – 15th Jan ‘17

103rd World Day of Migrants and Refugees

The theme of Pope Francis' Message is "Child Migrants, the Vulnerable and the Voiceless". In his Message, the Holy Father wants "to draw attention to the reality of child migrants, especially the ones who are alone. In doing so I ask everyone to take care of the young, who in a threefold way are defenceless: they are children, they are foreigners, and they have no means to protect themselves. I ask everyone to help those who, for various reasons, are forced to live far from their homeland and are

separated from their families."

Be a LIGHT

Jonathan Snacks, a Jewish teacher, said that the vocation of Israel was to be a Light

to the Nations, not a plague. This is the mission that Jesus handed over to his

disciples when he sent them to the ends of the earth. It is far more challenging

than to work for the economic self-sufficiency of their nations, to which cause many

leaders are enslaving their own people. There are leaders who teach violence to

usher in an era of peace. There are others who urge unjust ways to win justice,

hold out illusions to attain truth, and cease to be a genuine light in society. Henri

Nouwen says, “To be a teacher is to disclose through your own person the mystery

of God.” The self-seeking pragmatist in us must yield to the committed mystic until

we see the working of the Spirit in all human events and natural processes.

‘IMMACULATA APOSTOLATE’- Next Piety Stall will be Sat 4th & Sun 5th February

2017. Orders can be taken at any time. Contact Ann 043 242 1962.

Sacred Heart Parish Badges are now available Sacred Heart Parish Badges are now available in the foyer. These use magnets and

therefore do not ruin clothing. Please wear them during and after Mass – knowing

each other’s names help support a friendlier and welcoming atmosphere among

ourselves, and especially among visitors and newcomers to our community. We ask

that the name badges not be brought home and be returned to the magnet board

for safekeeping.

Sacramental Program – The Sacrament of Holy Communion sessions will begin

February 5 – these are for children who completed the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

We are now inviting all children who have completed their Holy Communion in the

past to enrol in sessions for the Sacrament of Confirmation. For more information

please contact Terry Byrnes on 4635 4917.

COMING UP Monday, Jan. 16 – PPC Meeting, 7pm

Sunday, Feb. 5, 11am Mass - Feast of the Sto. Nino / Infant Jesus of Prague

Friday, March 3 – World Day of Prayer

Learning To Love Children and Youth as Jesus Loves Them All children are lovable, not just the small babies or the cute, the healthy, and the bright ones. In their eyes full of light, wonder and innocence, there is an almost irresistible fascination which arouses in every normal human being (and even in animals!) feelings of tenderness and care. Each little boy or girl is a reminder of a world of innocence, dreams and hopes which most adults have lost sight of. All children need to be loved. But many are not. Far too many are not loved in the right manner. Some receive too much and become “spoiled brats,” groomed to be the tyrants of tomorrow. Others receive too little – much less than they need for their physical, intellectual, psychological, and affective development. Their lives are shortened, their faces ploughed by the deep furrows of neglect, deprivation, and the unconscious feeling of not being loved as they should . . . . Other children – most of them recruited from the previous immense crowd – are “used” by unscrupulous and wicked adults. They are destroyed by the cruelty of those who enjoy immolating them to the gods of greed and carnal pleasure. Still others – their numbers growing more and more! – are not even allowed to see the light of day, butchered as they are right in the wombs of their mothers, victims of unconquered lust, shame, pride, greed . . . . Words are unable to express the horror which malnutrition, child exploitation, child prostitution, and abortion arouse in us. And in God, more than in us! There is something devilish in all these forms of human degradation. Jesus showed his love for the children of his time. In the brightness of their eyes he saw mirrored the freshness and holiness of the Kingdom. He expects that we show the same concrete love for the children of our time. Our devotion to the Holy Child, Jesus, must lead us to practical concern for the millions of children in this country and all over the world. They are the most defenceless victims of the indifference, greed and lust of too many adults who are a disgrace to our nation and humankind.
