What is theWorld Islamic Economic Forum? The World Islamic Economic Forum started off from a modest beginning as the OIC Business Forum, which was held on 15th October 2003, in conjunction with the tenth OIC Summit in Putrajaya, Malaysia. The inaugural OIC Business Forum sought to create a business ‘face’ of the OIC.

This year, the 10th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) will provide a high level platform for leading global government leaders, captains of industries, academic scholars, regional experts, professionals, corporate managers, policy makers, innovators, business leaders and investors to discuss opportunities for business partnerships in the Muslim world.

Expected to be attended by more than 2,500 participants, the Forum will address a myriad of current economic and business related issues with the objective of bringing about new and fresh ideas in transforming the global economy and promoting business collaboration.

“Already London is the biggest centre for Islamic finance outside the Islamic world. But today our ambition is to go further still. Because I don’t just want London to be a great capital of Islamic finance in the Western world. I want London to stand alongside Dubai and Kuala Lumpur as one of the great capitals of Islamic finance anywhere in the world.”The Rt Hon David Cameron MP

The time has surely come for our financial institutions to recognize that the Earth is not a limitless resource that can be plundered at will, and to integrate that principle of stewardship into our financial structures. This is where I believe the World Islamic Economic Forum and Islamic – or “Alternative” – Finance can make a significant contribution.HRH The Prince of Wales

The MCB was instrumental in bringing the WIEF to London last year. The MCB also assisted with planning for the forum and hosted several seminars. The MCB also launched the Muslim Pound publication at the Forum: http://www.mcb.org.uk/muslimpound/
