11-12 July – Are we listening?

It’s story time! Do you know where’s our story is from? Yes, the Bible! The Bible is God's special book. The stories in God's Word are true. Raise your hand if you know the Bible is a special book. Yes, and if it’s in the bible, it’s true, because the Bible is True! What You Need: Bible, pillow, blanket, and plush animal Hello Kids, welcome to Kids Connect! I have a super cool story to tell you straight from the Bible. Today’s story is from 1 Samuel 3 and it takes place at bedtime. There once was a boy named Samuel who served the priest, Eli. One night, Samuel was going to sleep and he heard someone call him, ‘Samuel, Samuel.’ Samuel ran to Eli and said ‘Here I am!’ ‘Here I am, Eli. You called me?’ But Eli didn’t call Samuel. So Eli said, ‘Go back to bed, Samuel.’ That was weird. Samuel was sure he heard his name being called. So Samuel went back to bed just like Eli told him to. Just as he was about to go to sleep, he heard the voice again. ‘Samuel, Samuel!’ Oh! It’s the voice again. ‘Here I am,’ Samuel said, and he ran again to Eli. ‘Here I am! Eli, you called me?’ But Eli replied, ‘My son, I did not call you. Go back to bed.’ What is going on? Who is calling Samuel’s name? But Samuel went back to bed again. And again, he heard the voice, ‘Samuel, Samuel!’ ‘Here I am! I’m here, Eli!’ It was then that Eli realized that is was GOD calling to Samuel. Eli told him to go back to bed, and when he heard the voice again, he should say, ‘Speak, Lord, I’m listening.’ So Samuel did what Eli said. He went back to bed. And sure enough, he heard the voice again. ‘Samuel, Samuel.’ This time he knew it was God and so he said, ‘Speak, Lord, I’m listening.’ And you know what? God told Samuel all the plans He had for him. “Isn’t that awesome? Even though Samuel was a kid just like you, He learned to listen to God. And, we can too! God talks to us through the Bible. He tells us all sorts of BIG things we should do even though we are just kids. Samuel listened to God, and you can too! So it’s really important that we spend time in quiet and listen as well as look out for ways God will be speaking to us.
