Appendices
Appendix A1: Optical Safety Systems PICO-GUARD Fiber Optic Safety Systems
PLEASE READ:Information pertaining to all PICO-GUARD Hookup DrawingsUSSI Device ConnectionsThe PICO-GUARD controller provides two Universal Safety StopInterface (USSI) inputs. Each two-channel input is designed tomonitor stop signals from various types of stop controls ordevices, including:
E-stop switches
Rope pull switches
Mechanical safety interlock switches
Safety outputs from safety light screens (contacts or Bannerhandshake-compatible solid-state safety outputs)
Safety outputs from safety modules (contacts or Bannerhandshake-compatible solid-state safety outputs)
Safety outputs from other PICO-GUARD controllers (Bannerhandshake-compatible solid-state safety outputs)
OSSD Output ConnectionsBoth Output Signal Switching Device (OSSD) outputs must beconnected to the machine control so that the machines safety-related control system interrupts the circuit or power to theMachine Primary Control Element(s) (MPCE), resulting in a non-hazardous condition.
Final Switching Devices (FSDs) typically accomplish this when theOSSDs go to an OFF state.
WARNING . . . Interfacing of Both OSSDsBoth of the OSSD (Output Signal SwitchingDevice) outputs must be connected to themachine control so that the machines safety-
related control system interrupts the circuit to the machine primarycontrol element(s), resulting in a non-hazardous condition.
Never wire any intermediate device(s) in such a manner thatthe safety function can be suspended, overridden, or defeated, unless accomplished in a manner at the same or greaterdegree of safety.
WARNING . . . OSSD Interfacing
To ensure proper operation, the PICO-GUARDOSSD output parameters and machine inputparameters must be considered when
interfacing the PICO-GUARD solid-state OSSD outputs tomachine inputs.
Machine control circuitry must be designed so that themaximum load resistance value is not exceeded and so thatthe maximum specified OSSD OFF-state voltage does notresult in an ON condition.
Failure to properly interface the OSSD outputs to the guardedmachine could result in serious bodily injury or death.
!
!
WARNINGArc SuppressorsNever install arc suppressors directly across
the output contacts of any safeguardingdevice. If arc suppressors are used, they must
be installed across the load. It is possible for the suppressorsto fail as a short circuit.
!
WARNING Installing Multiple USSIDevicesWhenever two or more USSI devices (contactoutput) are connected to the same USSI input, contacts of each output channel must be
connected together in series. This series combination is then wired
to the respective USSI input (i.e., a to b, and c to d). See the PICO-GUARD Application and Design Guide for further information.
Never connect the contacts of multiple USSI devices inparallel to the PICO-GUARD USSI inputs.Parallel connectionof two or more contacts to one USSI input defeats the switchcontact monitoring ability of the PICO-GUARD controller andcreates an unsafe condition, which could result in seriousinjury or death.
When two or more USSI devices are used, each device mustbe individually actuated (engaged), then-armed. Also if usingUSSI 1 input, the PICO-GUARD controller must be reset. Thisallows the monitoring circuits to check each switch and itswiring to detect faults.
Failure to test each switch individually in this manner couldresult in undetected faults and create an unsafe condition, which could result in serious injury or death.
!
WARNING USSI Device Response TimeAffects Separation DistanceThe USSI response time must be included in theseparation distance calculation of the USSIdevice being installed.
Failure to properly determine the separation distance couldresult in serious bodiy injury or death.

PICO-GUARD Fiber Optic Safety Systems
FSD Interfacing ConnectionsFinal Switching Devices (FSDs) can take many forms, though themost common are captive contact, forced-guided relays orinterface modules. The mechanical linkage between the contactsallows the device to be monitored by the external devicemonitoring (EDM) circuit for certain failures.
Depending on the application, the use of FSDs can facilitatecontrolling voltage and current that differs from the OSSD outputsof the PICO-GUARD. FSDs can also be used to control anadditional number of hazards by creating multiple safety stopcircuits.
Safety Stop CircuitsA safety stop allows for an orderly cessation of motion forsafeguarding purposes, which results in a stopping of motion andremoval of power from the MPCEs (assuming this does not createadditional hazards). A safety stop circuit typically comprises aminimum of two normally open (N.O.) contacts from captive-contact, forced-guided relays, which are monitored (through EDM)to detect certain failures in order to prevent the loss of the safetyfunction. Such a circuit can be described as a safe switchingpoint. Typically, safety stop circuits are either 1-channel (singlechannel), which is a series connection of at least two N.O.contacts; or 2-channel (dual channel), which is a separateconnection of two N.O. contacts. In either method, the safetyfunction relies on the use of redundant contacts to control a singlehazard (if one contact fails ON, the second contact will arrest thehazard and prevent the next cycle from occurring).
The interfacing of the safety stop circuits must be accomplished sothat the safety function can not be suspended, overridden, ordefeated, unless accomplished in a manner at the same or greaterdegree of safety as the machines safety related control system thatincludes the PICO-GUARD.
The normally open safety outputs from an interface moduleprovide a series connection of redundant contacts that form safetystop circuits for use in either 1-channel or 2-channel control.
2-Channel (Dual-Channel) ControlTwo-channel control provides the ability to electrically extend thesafe switching point beyond the FSD contacts. With propermonitoring (i.e., EDM), this method of interfacing is capable ofdetecting certain failures in the control wiring between the safetystop circuit and the MPCEs. These failures include a short-circuit ofone channel to a secondary source of energy or voltage, or theloss of the switching ability of one of the FSD outputs. Suchfailures could lead to the loss of redundancy or to a completeloss of safety, if not detected and corrected.
The possibility of a failure to the wiring increases as the physicaldistance between the FSD safety stop circuits and the MPCEsincrease, as the length or the routing of the interconnecting wiresincreases, or if the FSD safety stop circuits and the MPCEs arelocated in different enclosures. For this reason, 2-channel controlwith EDM monitoring should be used in any installation where theFSDs are located remotely from the MPCEs.
1-Channel (Single-Channel) ControlOne-channel control, as mentioned, uses a series connection ofFSD contacts to form a safe switching point. After this point in thmachines safety-related control system, failures can occur thatwould result in the loss of the safety function (such as a short-circuit to a secondary source of energy or voltage).
For this reason, 1-channel control interfacing should be used onlyin installations where FSD safety stop circuits and the MPCEs aremounted within the same control panel, adjacent to each other, anare directly connected to each other; or where the possibility ofsuch a failure can be excluded. If this can not be achieved, then 2channel control should be used.
Methods to exclude the possibility of these failures include, but anot limited to:
Physically separating interconnecting control wires from eachother and from secondary sources of power.
Routing interconnecting control wires in separate conduit, runs,or channels.
Locating all elements (modules, switches, and devices undercontrol) within one control panel, adjacent to each other, anddirectly connected with short wires.
Properly installing multi-conductor cabling and multiple wiresthrough strain-relief fittings. (Over-tightening of a strain-relief ccause short-circuits at that point.)
Using positive-opening or direct-drive components, installed anmounted in a positive mode.
External Device MonitoringIt is strongly recommended that one normally closed, forced-guided monitoring contact of each MPCE (or FSD) be connected EDM inputs. If this is done, proper operation of the MPCEs will bverified. Monitoring MPCE contacts is one method of maintainincontrol reliability.
CAUTION . . .EDM MonitoringIf the system is configured for No Monitoring,it is the users responsibility to ensure thatthis does not create a hazardous situation.
!
NOTE: EDM AND CONTROL RELIABILITY
In the U.S., Control Reliability requires that a single failuredoes not prevent a normal stop from occurring, or issues animmediate stop command, and the next cycle is preventedfrom occurring until the fault is corrected.
A common method of satisfying these requirements is throughthe use of 2-channel control with monitoring, where a normallyclosed, forced-guided contact of each MPCE (or FSD) is wiredto the EDM inputs.

EZ-SCREEN Machine Interface Hookups
Appendix A2: Optical Safety Systems EZ-SCREEN Systems
PLEASE READ:Information pertaining to all EZ-SCREEN Hookup DrawingEZ-SCREEN receivers are powered by 24V dc, and have two solid-state outputs, which are designated OSSD1 and OSSD2 (OSSD = Output SignaSwitching Device). These OSSDs are rated to switch loads up to 0.5 amps at 24V dc. It is unlikely that the OSSDs will directly interface to MachinPrimary Control Elements (MPCEs), which typically draw more current and/or require a different control voltage.
The hookup drawing for an EZ-SCREEN receiver on the next page shows the OSSDs connected toFSDs (Final Switching Devices). The FSDs must be safety relays (with forced-guided contacts)which each offer a normally-closed monitor contact. The monitor contacts are connected to theEDM (External Device Monitoring) inputs of the EZ-SCREEN receiver (see hookup drawing).
Banner offers interface modules IM-T-9A and IM-T-11A, either of which allows a safe interfacebetween an EZ-SCREEN receiver and the MPCEs of the machine to be controlled. The two
modules are identical, with the exception that model IM-T-11A offers a normally-closed auxiliary(non-safety) output. The safety output contacts of either IM-T interface module can switch eitherac- or dc-operated loads at up to 6 amps.
Output Relay ConnectionsThe hookup diagrams for IM-T interface modules on page 305 show output relay connections ina generic machine interface. The connections between the IM-T interface module and themachine primary control elements must be direct, and arranged so that any single wiring faultwill not result in a circuit failure to a potentially dangerous state.
MPCE 1is an electrically powered element of the guarded machine that directly controls the normaloperating motion of the machine; it must be last (in time) to operate when motion is either initiatedor arrested. MPCE 2is an electrically powered element of the guarded machine (in a differentcontrol path from MPCE 1) that directly controls the normal operating motion of the guardedmachine; it must be last (in time) to operate when machine motion is either initiated or arrested. The output contacts of the IM-T-..A module must be connected, as shown in the followingdiagrams, to control power to Machine Primary Control Elements #1 and #2.
Many different types of mechanisms are used to arrest dangerous machine motion. Examples in-clude mechanical braking systems, clutch mechanisms, and combinations of brakes and clutches.Additionally, control of the arresting scheme may be hydraulic or pneumatic.
As a result, MPCEs may be of several control types, including a wide variety of contactors and elec-tromechanical valves. If your machine documentation leaves any doubt about the proper connec-tion points for the IM-T-..A Module output relay contacts, do not make any connections. Contactthe machine builder for clarification regarding connections to the MPCEs.
WARNING . . .Use of Arc SuppressorsIf arc suppressors are used, they MUST be installed as
shown across the coils of the machinecontrol elements. NEVER installsuppressors directly across the contacts ofthe IM-T-..A Module! It is possible forsuppressors to fail as a short circuit. Ifinstalled directly across the contacts of theIM-T-..A Module, a short-circuited suppressowill create an unsafe condition.
!
NOTICE Regarding MPCEs
Each of the two Machine Primary ControlElements (MPCE 1 and MPCE 2) must becapable of immediately stopping the danger
ous machine motion, irrespective of thestate of the other. These two channels ofmachine control need not be identical, butthe stop time performance of the machine(Ts, used to calculate the separationdistance) must take into account the slowerof the two channels.
Some machines offer only one primarycontrol element. For such machines, it isnecessary to duplicate the circuit of thesingle MPCE to add a second machineprimary control element.
WARNING . . .Maintain Control Reliability
NEVER wire an intermediate device (e.g., a programmable logic controller/PLC), other than a safety relay, between any safety outputof the IM-T-..A Interface Module and the Machine Primary Control Element it switches. To do so sacrifices the control reliability of thecontrol-to-machine interface, and creates an unsafe condition. Whenever a safety relay is added as an intermediate switching device, a
normally-closed forced-guided monitor contact of that relay must be added to the series feedback loop. (Reference ANSI B11.1 1988, Appendix B4)

MICRO-SCREEN Fixed Beam Blanking
8 0 N/A
The fixed blanking feature may be programmed if beams are blocked byone or more fixed objects. Fixed blanking requires an emitter/receiver pairwith 16 or more beams (over 4" long). Fixed blanking is limited to 30% ofthe total number of beams, up to a maximum of 12 beams . Contactfactory Applications Department if your application requires fixed blankingof a greater number of beams. Programming of fixed blanking involves asimple teaching process; it is accomplished using the Diagnostic Displayand the Program switches located on the Light Screen controller board.

* For blanking definitions see Glossary of Machine Safety Terms starting on page 392. Single object floating blanking allows the interruption of only one beam or two beams, as configured. Multiple object floating blanking allows one or more objects to pass through the light screen undetected, provided each object
does not interrupt more than the programmed number of beams (one or two), and provided there is at least one unblockedbeam between each pair objects (also known as Reduced Resolution).

MICRO-SCREEN Machine Interface Hookups
NOTICE Regarding MPCEs
Each of the two Machine Primary ControlElements (MPCE 1 and MPCE 2) must becapable of immediately stopping the dangerous machine motion, irrespective of thestate of the other. These two channels ofmachine control need not be identical, butthe stop time performance of the machine(Ts, used to calculate the separationdistance) must take into account the slower
of the two channels.
Some machines offer only one primarycontrol element. For such machines, it isnecessary to duplicate the circuit of thesingle MPCE to add a second machineprimary control element.
WARNING . . .Final Switching Device
The output relays of theMICRO-SCREEN System must be the finalswitching devices for the machinery beingguarded. Never wire an intermediatedevice (e.g., a programmable logiccontroller - PLC), other than a safety relay, between either FSD and the machineprimary control elements (Reference ANSIB11.1-1988. Appendix B4). To do so resultsin an unsafe condition.
!
WARNING . . .Arc Suppressor InstallationIf arc suppressors are used, they MUST be installed as shown across the coils of the machine control elements. NEVER installsuppressors directly across the contacts of the MICRO-SCREEN switching devices! It is possible for suppressors to fail as a short circuit. If installed directly across the contacts of the MICRO-SCREEN switching device, a short-circuited suppressor will create an unsafe condition
Output Relay ConnectionsOutput relay connections are made at the FSD1(Final Switching Device 1),FSD2(Final SwitchingDevice 2), and SSD(Secondary Switching Device) terminals on the controller. These relays are ener-gized (contacts closed) in normal operation when no obstructions are in the defined area. All relaysbecome de-energized (their contacts open) in a lockout condition. Relays FSD1and FSD2(only) de-energize in a trip condition. Before continuing, read NOTICE Regarding MPCEs, below right.
The FSD1 output relay connects to Machine Primary Control Element #1 (MPCE 1) on the guardedmachine. MPCE 1 is an electrically powered element of the guarded machine that directly controlsthe normal operating motion of the machine; it must be last (in time) to operate when motion iseither initiated or arrested. The output contact of relay FSD1 must be connected, as shown in thefollowing diagrams, to control power to Machine Primary Control Element #1.
The FSD2 output relay connects to Machine Primary Control Element #2 (MPCE 2) on the guardedmachine. MPCE 2 is an electrically powered element of the guarded machine (in a different controlpath from MPCE 1) that directly controls the normal operating motion of the guarded machine; itmust be last (in time) to operate when machine motion is either initiated or arrested. The outputcontact of relay FSD2 must be connected, as shown in the following diagrams, to control power toMachine Primary Control Element #2.
Many different types of mechanisms are used to arrest dangerous machine motion. Examples in-clude mechanical braking systems, clutch mechanisms, and combinations of brakes and clutches.Additionally, control of the arresting scheme may be hydraulic or pneumatic.
As a result, MPCEs may be of several control types, including a wide variety of contactors andelectromechanical valves. If your machine documentation leaves any doubt about the proper con-nection points for the MICRO-SCREEN System output relay contacts, do not make any connec-tions. Contact the machine builder for clarification regarding connections to the MPCEs and MSCE.
The SSD output relay connects to the Machine Secondary Control Element (MSCE) on the guardedmachine. The MSCE is an electrically powered element of the guarded machine (independent of theMPCEs) that is capable of removing power from the prime mover of the dangerous part of themachine in the event of an emergency. The output contacts of the SSD relay must be connected, asshown in the following diagrams, to the Machine Secondary Control Element such that, if a lockoutcondition occurs, the motive power will be removed from the machine.
PLEASE READ:Information pertaining to all MICRO-SCREEN Hookup DrawThe following hookup diagrams show output relay connections in a generic machine interface. The connections between the MICRO-SCREENSystem outputs and the machine primary and secondary control elements must be direct, and arranged so that any single line fault or earth faultwill not result in a circuit failure to a potentially dangerous state.

MINI-SCREEN Fixed Beam Blanking
* Assumes all blanked beams are adjacent; if multiple areas are blanked (multiple object ignored) the total blanked areaincreases slightly.
The fixed blanking feature may be programmed if beams are blocked by one or more fixed objects. Fixed blankingrequires an emitter/receiver pair with 16 or more beams (over 4" long). Fixed blanking is limited to 30% of the totalnumber of beams, up to a maximum of 12 beams . Contact factory Applications Department if your application requiresfixed blanking of a greater number of beams. Programming of fixed blanking involves a simple teaching process; it isaccomplished using the Diagnostic Display and the Program switches located on the Light Screen controller board.

* For blanking definitions see Glossary of Machine Safety Terms starting on page 392. Single object floating blanking allows the interruption of only one beam or two beams, as configured. Multiple object floating blanking allows one or more objects to pass through the light screen undetected, provided each object does not interrupt more than the
programmed number of beams (one or two), and provided there is at least one unblocked beam between each object (also known as Reduced Resolution).a With fixed blanking onb With fixed blanking off
