Dear Fellow Cross Country Fans, It is indeed an honor for M-F Athletic to again be a sponsor of the NJSIAA Cross Country Championships. Most of us will only get to see the start and finish of these races today, but make no mistake; there is a lot that happens in between. Just as in life, these athletes are learning that it is the journey along the way that matters most. The hard work and perseverance that it takes to be successful here will go a long way towards preparing them for many future challenges. To the athletes and coaches – good luck and continued success in pursuing all of your goals. To the parents and fans – cheer the runners on with pride and the knowledge that they are giving it their best. To the officials, volunteers and park personnel – thank you for providing a safe, fair and enjoyable experience for the athletes and spectators alike. To the winners – congratulations! You have achieved the highest level of success against some of the best competition in the country and have earned a place in New Jersey sports history. Since 1960 M-F has been involved in the sports of track & field and cross country as an equipment supplier and a supporter through our many educational programs. The journey continues for us as well. Enjoy the meet! Sincerely,

Girls Meet of Champions Preview
Robert Kellert / nj.milesplit.com
With multiple powerhouse squads hitting the courses this year it's been a season long search for our number one team in the state, the Meet of Champions hopes to help with that puzzle.
Last weekend on a chilly windy Saturday in Holmdel, NJ the North Hunterdon girls put together a defining number one team performance during Group Championships and they hope to carry that momentum.
The two-time defending team champions at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions won a third straight Group 4 title with an impressive 19:07 average. The team performance was kicked off by a merge leading 18:01 registered to none other than seasoned veteran Chloe Gonzalez. The Lions were ranked second in the state behind Group 4 rivals Ridgewood heading into Groups and came out of it a unanimous NJ#1 in the rankings poll.
Full Coverage of the NJSIAA Meet of Champions on nj.milesplit.com
North Hunterdon enters Saturday's Meet of Champions looking to make it three straight wins. Not only that but another championship would make it nine overall, tying the state record nine titles won by Red Bank Catholic since the meet started back in 1972. Another RBC connection, if North Hunterdon does win this would be the first three-peat since RBC finished three straight in 1996.
If that wasn't exciting enough for this program, on the individual front their leading runner Chloe Gonzalez, a senior bound for Georgetown University, could end up the first North Hunterdon individual to win the girls title since Jodie Bilotta won three straight from 1985 through 1987. Gonzalez ran a 17:45 earlier this season to move up to sixth all-time at Holmdel Park.
Now that we've covered the favorites heading in let's take a look at some of the other contenders.
On the team side NJ#2 ranked Ridgewood will look to bounce back from their second place Group 4 performance. Their squad averaged 19:36 in the Group Championship, when accounting their season bests at Holmdel the team is capable of a 19:11.
Though she had an off race at Groups Ridgewood's star sophomore Camryn Wennersten, their usual front runner, has a course PR of 17:47 which is eighth all-time at Holmdel Park. Wennersten is the only girl other than Gonzalez to dip under the 18 minute mark at Holmdel in 2019 and has been considered Gonzalez's main competition for the individual title all season long.
Historically the Ridgewood girls own two team and individual Meet of Champions titles, the team wins came back in 1999 and 1992. Their individual winners include Kelly Behan, 1997, and Jenna Rogers, 1993.
Hayley Amisano of Mater Dei Prep had a fantastic Group Championships running an 18:34 to win Non-Public B, the second fastest time of the day. If she pulls off the upset she would be just the second ever NPB winner, Lindsay Van Alstine of Hawthorne Christian did so in 2001 running 18:43.
Group 2 Champion Emma McGill of Voorhees has been running strong all season long, she hit a course PR of 18:41 battling Lakeland Regional sophomore Angelina Perez to the line. Perez, in her first cross country season was clocked at 18:46. Both are strong runners you wouldn't want to deal with over the final kick.
Nicole Vanasse of Pingry cruised to a third straight Non-Public A victory running 18:57, she holds a course PR of 18:23 which earned her third at the 2017 Meet of Champions and has to be excited to be back after missing MOCs due to sickness last year.
Caroline Mehlhorn, who was fifth at last year's MOCs with a course PR of 18:25, ran second in the Group 4 to Gonzalez. She should be up with the leaders once again in 2019.
Group 3 Champion Reese Fahys leads a strong NJ#3 Middletown South squad who surged ahead mid-season as team contenders. Middletown South last won in 1998, that year also included the only individual champ for their school, Cate Guiney.
Also battling for the top six team podium positions are Ridge, Kingsway, Holmdel, Colts Neck, Mendham, Haddonfield, and Red Bank Catholic.
Some other individuals not mentioned you should keep an eye out for in the top ten include Manon Stephen of Ridge, Olivia Shafer of Egg Harbor Twp, Shannon Clancy of Bergen County Tech, Magdalyn Hoffman of North Hunterdon, Kate Rathman of Cherokee, Lilly Shapiro of Colts Neck, Kate Ruona, Lily Willias, Maddy Kopec, Laurel Kurtz, Sarah Naticchia, Emily Levonas, and plenty of other strong athletes who could keep this article going longer than it should.
Best of luck to all of New Jersey's greatest.

BOYS MEET OF CHAMPIONS PREVIEW BY JIM LAMBERT OF NJ MILESPLIT Will the Jack Jennings vs. Liam Murphy sequel be as electrifying as Part 1? Can anyone stop NJ#1/US#6 Christian Brothers Academy from winning a third straight title and increasing its state record total to a mind-blowing 24 titles? Those questions and more will be answered when the state's best clash in what has the makings of an instant classic at the 48th annual NJSIAA Cross-Country Meet of Champions on Saturday at Holmdel Park. There has never quite been a showdown or rematch more eagerly anticipated as Jennings vs. Murphy, who waged an epic battle in the State Group 3 race last week when the two stars threw down two of the fastest times in Holmdel Park history. Jennings, a senior at Mendham, used a powerful kick to pass the previously undefeated Murphy of Allentown with about 100 yards to go before stopping the clock at 15:19, No. 6 all-time in Holmdel Park history. Murphy, third at the Meet of Champions last year, crossed second in 15:21, No. 8 all-time in course history! Those were the No. 2 and No. 3 fastest times ever run at the State Group Championships. Jennings, who dropped his Holmdel PR by an astonishing 31 seconds, is just the sixth runner to ever break 15:20 at Holmdel. He joined legendary runners Edward Cheserek of St. Benedict's Prep (14:53 in 2011), Joe Rosa of West Windsor-Plainsboro North (14:56 in 2009), Jim Rosa of West Windsor-Plainsboro North (15:15 in 2010), Forys (15:16 in 2006), and Jason DiJoseph of Paul VI (15:17 in 1988). Can Jennings duplicate or even top his performance from last week and win the first Meet of Champions of his career? Will the Villanova-bound Murphy, a Foot Locker finalist last year and the indoor M of C 3,200 winner last winter, avenge his defeat, or will a dark horse emerge and pull off the upset? While Jennings and Murphy are the obvious favorites on paper, they should have plenty of fast company as eight other runners will toe the line with personal best times at Holmdel. They are Kevin Antczak of Mainland and Luke Johnson of West Windsor-Plainsboro North, who both ran 15:32 at the Shore Coaches Invitational last month when they finished ahead of Jennings, Group 2 champion Austin Gabay of Cinnaminson (15:48), Group 4 winner Jackson Braddock of Southern (15:49), Non-Public A winner Shaw Powell of CBA (15:53 at Monmouth County), Group 4 runner-up Ethan Wechsler of Cherokee (15:51), and Oliver Adler of Cherry Hill East (15:58 at Shore Coaches). There has never been a race on the current Holmdel Park 3.1-mile layout, which has been used for the Meet of Champions since 1978, where three runners have broken 15:20. But that could change with all the talent in this race.
In the team competition, CBA, which has captured eight of the last nine titles, is favored to increase its state record to 24 championships, which would be one more than the total number of titles the entire rest of the state has won combined (23). Note-there was no team scoring at the first M of C in 1972. CBA has won 19 more M of C titles than any other program. The team with the second most titles is Paul VI with four. It's going to be tough for any team to prevent Coach Sean McCafferty's Colts from staying on top. CBA came out on top in the meet merge at the Group Championships, 83-186 ½ over Mendham, and has the firepower to throw down an epic performance. CBA, which rolled to the state Non-Public A last week to raise its state record to 30 state titles, averaged 16:15 last week and packed its scoring five in the top nine with a compression of just 32 seconds. Shaw Powell led the charge for the Colts by winning his second straight title in 16:00. There is a very strong field that will attempt to dethrone CBA and score the upset, led by NJ#2 Mendham, NJ#3 Haddonfield, NJ#4 Cherokee, and NJ#5 West Windsor-Plainsboro North, NJ#6 Ridge, NJ#7 St. Peter's Prep, NJ#8 North Hunterdon, NJ#9 Cherry Hill East, and NJ#10 Old Bridge. Mendham, coming off a third straight Group 3 title where they averaged 16:21, is seeking to become the first boys champ from Morris County since Morris Catholic won its second straight in 1975. Group 2 champion Haddonfield, which averaged a Group 2 record 16:33 last week, is aiming for its second title ever (it captured the championship in 2001). Cherokee, which averaged a school course record 16:33 won it won its first Group 4 title since 2007, is chasing its first M of C title ever. West Windsor-Plainsboro North, which averaged 16:43 when it finished as the runner-up in Group 3, averaged 16:23 at the Shore Coaches Invit. West Windsor North won its only M of C XC C title in 2008 when it was led by all-time great Rosa twins, Jim and Joe.
