#26 Gannon Moore (rB, 6-1, 209, Jr., Sioux falls, S.D. / lincoln hS)Southwest Minnesota State UniversityGannon Moore rushed for a career-high 159 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries during SMSU’s 45-13 victory over MSU Moorhead on Saturday. Moore, along with teammate Warren Matthews, helped SMSU set a school single-game record with 397 yards rushing. Moore, who averaged 7.9 yards per carry, also caught two passes for 28 yards. Moore scored on touchdown runs of 45 and 12 yards and now has 21 in his career, tying for third all-time in school history.

#32 Brody Scheff (S, 6-0, 206, Sr., Waconia, Minn. /Waconia hS) Bemidi State UniversityBrody Scheff posted a career-high three interceptions, 11 tackles (six solo) and a sack (-5 yards) in the 20-7 victory against Concordia-St. Paul. The three picks is the most by any NSIC player this season and is the first time a BSU player has recorded three or more intercep-tions in a game since Corey Brewer did so versus Wayne State Nov. 6, 2004. His interceptions came at key spots and all in second half, earning two picks at the BSU five yard line and the other was in the end zone, thwarting a CU comeback. His third pick came with just 1:14 remaining in regulation, icing the Beaver victory. He has six picks this season to lead the league. His sack was the second of the

#44 randy Weich (P, 6-2, 250, Jr., lincoln, Neb. / Pierce hS)Wayne State CollegeRandy Weich, 6-2 250 pound junior punter from Pierce, Nebraska (Pierce HS), averaged 51.5 yards on six punts with two inside the 20-yard line in Saturday’s 31-24 win over Mary. Weich had a long punt of 70 yards and two of his punts in the fourth quarter pinned Mary deep in their own territory at the 14 and three yard lines. Weich entered the game leading the NSIC while ranking third in NCAA Division II in punting and is now averaging 45.5 yard per punt. This marks the second time this season that Weich has

been named NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week (9/19/11).

Josh Hanson (QB, 6-1, 175, Jr., Watertown, S.D./Watertown HS) com-pleted 25 of 49 passes for 317 yards and two scores Saturday at Northern State, helping the Vikings to a 27-24 victory over the Wolves. Hanson also rushed for 26 yards as Augustana picked up its third straight victory. The sophomore signal caller engineered a game-winning drive with less than two minutes left in the game, taking his team 80 yards in four plays and throwing the go-ahead touchdown pass to Ben Parsley. Hanson has thrown for 300 yards three times during his ca-reer.Ben Wardell (DL, 6-3, 230, Sr., Sturgis, S.D./Sturgis HS) registered a career- and game-high 13 tackles to help Augustana to a 27-24 victory over Northern State this past Saturday in Aberdeen, S.D. Wardell also notched one tackle for loss, which went for 3 yards. Grant Gebhardt (WR, 6-0, 165, RFr., Burwell, Neb./Burwell HS) accumulated 157 return yards Saturday against Northern State, helping the Vikings to a 27-24 win over the Wolves. His per-formance included a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter. The redshirt freshman was dangerous on three kick returns, totaling 126 yards. His two punt returns went for 31 yards. Gebhardt added 94 yards receiving to finish with a career- and game-high 251 all-purpose yards.

Dustin Kroeplin (RB, 5-11, 238, Jr-2L, Withee, Wis. / Owen-Withee HS) rushed 17 times for 72 yards (4.2 yds/carry) and a touchdown in the 20-7 victory against Concordia-St. Paul. He has six touchdowns and is averaging 100.6 yards per game this season.

#3 Charles Gilbert (WR, 6-0, 180, Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) continued to stake a claim as one of the top playmakers in the NSIC, hauling in a 3rd quarter 46 yard touchdown on 3rd and 29 to bring Concordia within a touchdown at Bemidji State. Gilbert had two receptions of 45-plus yards and finished with five catches for 142 yards while reaching 192 all-purpose yardage. In 18 career games, Gilbert has scored 19 touchdowns with 18 of those coming from at least 23 yards along with six 100-yard receiv-ing games. His 557 receiving yards are second in the league while his seven receiving scores lead the league. Concordia started a third different quarterback on Saturday as senior captain Spencer Ohm (Blooming Prairie, Minn.) made his debut. He also became Concordia’s third 300-yard passer of the season as well, completing 16 passes for 301 yards against the powerful Bemidji State defense…senior running back Sam Campbell (Cary, Ill.) notched his fourth straight 95-plus yard rushing game, going for over 100 yards against one of the best run defenses in the nation. Campbell finished with 107 yards on 23 attempts. His 524 rushing yards are fourth in the Northern Sun…senior linebacker Al Quaye (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) registered 13 tackles to help the Golden Bear defense force five 3-and-outs and limit the BSU offense to under 300 yards of total offense on Saturday. Quaye is now sixth in the league with 57 tackles and moved up to sixth in career tackles at CU with 274, one shy of fifth (Terry Gores, 275, 1990-93).

Josh Murray (RB, 5-11, 209, Sr., Pepin, Wisc. / Pepin HS / North Dakota) generated 183 yards of offense and scored two touchdowns in the Maraud-ers 31-24 loss at Wayne State College. The senior ran for 138 yards on 30 carries and scored on a 1-yard plunge. His longest carry of the afternoon went for 48 yards. Murray also scored on a 45 yard touchdown reception, his lone catch of the afternoon… Making his second collegiate start, Josh Edwards (QB, 6-0, 190, R-FR, Ceres, Calif.) threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 23-of-41 passes without throwing an interception. The redshirt freshman connected on scoring strikes of 45 and 31 yards.

DeShon Benton (LB, 6-0, 230, Modesto, Calif. / Utah State) made several big plays for the Ma-rauders against Wayne State. Benton had the game’s only interception, broke up another pass, had two tackles for loss and also tied for the team lead with five tackles. The senior is second in the NSIC in tackles for loss this year with 10, trailing teammate John Oyloe. Benton is also second in the conference in passes defended with eight… John Oyloe (DE, 6-5, 240, Soph., Williston, N.D. / Williston HS) had a sack against Wayne State and now leads the NSIC in sacks with 5.0. He is also the conference leader in tackles for loss with 11.5.

The Golden Eagles were led offensively against UIU by Richard Haley (RB, 6-0, 205, Jr., Detroit, Mich.) who rushed 24 times for 143 yards and one touchdown. He had a long rush of 78 yards good for seventh place in UMC history and averaged six yards/rush. It’s the fifth time this season that Haley has rushed for more than 100 yards in a contest. A.J. Barge (QB, 6-3, 190, Fr., Carrollton, Ga.) completed 10 passes for 66 yards and one touchdown. Fiege and Jordan Lecher (WR, 6-3, 195, Jr., Litchfield, Minn.) were Barges top receivers catching three passes each. The Golden Eagle offense tallied 327 yards of total offense. It’s the fourth game this season that UMC has recorded more than 300 yards of total offense in a game. The Golden Eagle defense was led by Brody Davidson (LB, 6-1, 210, Fr., Crookston, Minn.) who tallied 11 tackles (2 solo, 9 assisted) in the contest including a half of a tackle for a loss of one yard.

The defending NCAA II champion Bulldogs will engage in its second straight NSIC road assignment this Saturday when it takes on the University of Mary.UMD is 4-0 lifetime against the Marauders and has outscored them 170-28 in those four outings, the first of which came in 2006.One year ago (Oct. 16) , the Bulldogs rolled to a 49-0 victory over Mary at James S. Malosky Stadium for their only shut out of 2010.UMD’s quest for a fourth consecutive NSIC title got a huge boost last Saturday night in the form of a 24-6 victory at Winona State University. Andy Pfeiffer (RB, 6-0, 195, R-Fr., Mankato, Minn./West/North Dakota State) extended his streak of 100-yard rushing games to five Saturday afternoon with a 23-carry 142-yard effort against St. Cloud State, which is his second-best effort of the season. Against the Huskies, Pfeiffer had 68 yards in the first quarter, one yard in the second, 50 in the third and 23 in the fourth. Ad-ditionally, he had six carries for ten yards or more, including a long rush of 19 yards.

Minnesota State redshirt freshman Nathan Hancock led MSU with nine tackles, including six solo in Minnesota State’s loss to St. Cloud State. Hancock also had a sack for a loss of nine yards and forced a fumble.

NSU’s Kristin James (RB, 5-9, 170, Jr., San Bernardino, Calif./San Bernardino HS/San Bernardino Valley Coll.) exploded for 152 yards and a touchdown on the ground on Saturday against a vaunted Au-gusutana Viking defense in the Wolves’ heart-breaking 24-27 loss to the Vikings. James scored from four yards out in the third quarter to put the Wolves up 21-10. The 152 total yards was the most by a single NSU player in more than two years since Montrel Richardson put up 174 against St. Cloud State in 2009.

Hanipale Seuga (LB, 5-11, 220, Jr., Wilmington, Calif./Phinneas Banning HS) came up big on both sides of the ball for the Wolves. Seuga scored the WOlves’ first touchdown of the day on a two-yard dive in the second quarter. He also had four tackles defen-sively to go along with a 52-yard interception return in the second half.

Felipe Alfaia (K, 5-11, 210, Jr., Sao Roque, Sao Paulo, Brazil) booted a career-long field goal from 41 yards out on Saturday in a heart-breaking 24-27 loss to Augustana. Alfaia was also perfect on all three point-after attempts to aid the NSU effort.

Dante Steward (Sr., RB, Milwaukee, Wis.) carried the ball 22 time for 141 yards and two touchdown runs of two and eight yards in the 17th-ranked Huskies 31-13 win over Minnesota State University, Mankato. His longest carry was for 24 yards. He scored the Huskies first touchdown which put them ahead 7-3. His second touchdown gave the Huskies a 17-6 half-time lead and he carried the ball six times in the drive. The performance marked his second 100-yard rushing game of the season and fifth of his career. It also put him over the 1,500 yard career rushing mark. Steward has 1,519 career rushing yards and became the 15th Huskies to reach the 1,500 yard plateau.

For the third straight year, St. Cloud State retained the vaunted Traveling Training Kit with a 31-13 home win over Minnesota State University, Mankato. The 17th-ranked Huskies went to the ground gaining 303 of 380 total yards in offense on the ground attack. For the second straight week Mark Martin (Sr., LB, Milwaukee, Wis.) led the team in tackles with eight. He notched a quarterback sack and forced a fumble. Joe Everson (Sr., DB, Lakeville, Minn.) collected his sec-ond interception of the season and tenth of his career late in the fourth quarter in the end zone, thwarting an MSU scoring attempt. Brandon Geiss (Jr., RB, Shorewood, Ill.) carried the ball nine times for 73 yards and is closing in on the 2,000 yard rushing mark. He has 1,926 career rushing yards and would become the eighth Husky to gain 2,000 yards in a career.

Smith’s scoring runs came from 2, 11 and 6 yards away. In total he rushed for 64 yards on 19 carries.Steven Sandoval (K, Jr., Northridge, Calif.) remained perfect on the season hitting his eighth field goal of the year (35 yards) and converting four extra points to make his sea-son total seventeen for seventeen.Upper Iowa scored first and then used 24 unanswered points in the second and third quarters to claim a 31-21 victory on the road. The win improved UIU’s record to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the NSIC marking the first time since 2006, UIU’s first in NCAA Divi-sion II, that the team has reached three wins in its first six games. Upper Iowa rushed for 99 yards led by Smith’s 64 on 19 carries. Jaeschke completed 16 passes for 270 yards and a score, while throwing one interception. While Hubbard (83 yards) pulled in the big play for a score, redshirt freshman Shay Gutman stood out with five catches for 112 yards including a 45-yard grab. Ethan Douglas recorded 13 tackles including 6 solo, 2.5 for loss, and recovered one fumble. Casey Popenfoose added 8 tackles, while Tony Leggett, Tom Nesvik and Nick Lepperd each made 7 tackles. Mitch Montgomery, a 6-1 225 pound senior wide receiver from Ralston, Nebraska (Ralston HS), had four catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns to help Wayne State remain unbeaten in NSIC play with a 31-24 win over Mary Saturday. Montgomery hauled in TD re-ceptions of seven and 64 yards in the second and third quarters that helped the Wildcats build a 24-10 lead early in the third quarter. Ben Radel, a 6-0 185 pound sophomore defensive back from Papillion, Nebraska (Papil-lion-LaVista South HS), notched a game-high 14 tackles with one forced fumble and one pass break up to help Wayne State defeat Mary 31-24. Radel was credited with 11 solo stops and three assisted tackles in the contest. He leads WSC in pass breakups (5) and interceptions (3 for 88 yards) this season while ranking third on the team in tackles with 41.Randy Weich, 6-2 250 pound junior punter from Pierce, Nebraska (Pierce HS), averaged 51.5 yards on six punts with two inside the 20-yard line in Saturday’s 31-24 win over Mary. Weich had a long punt of 70 yards and two of his punts in the fourth quarter pinned Mary deep in their own territory at the 14 and three yard lines. Weich entered the game leading the NSIC while ranking third in NCAA Division II in punting and is now averaging 45.5 yard per punt.

BURNSVILLE, Minn. - The defending NSIC and NCAA DII National Champions of the University of Minnesota Duluth were selected by the league coaches as the overall and north division preseason favorite in the NSIC in 2011. The Bulldogs received 11 first place votes and amassed 167 points, 12 more than St. Cloud State (155), who garnered the other three first place votes. Augustana was picked third overall and were the top choice in the south. Winona State (125) was fourth in the poll and picked second in the south while Minnesota State (115) was fifth overall and third in the south. Both the Warriors and the Mavericks received a first place vote in the south.

The Bulldogs will boast the NSIC North Division Offensive Pre-season Player of the Year in quarterback Chase Vogler and North Division Defensive Preseason Player of the Year in linebacker Rob Huberty. Winona State running back Rayon Simmons was cho-sen as the South Division Offensive Preseason Player of the Year while Wayne State’s defensive end Richard Daniel was picked as the South Division Defensive Preseason Player of the Year.

As in the past three seasons, the NSIC football schedule will be bro-ken into two seven-team divisions (north/south) in 2011. Each team will play ten conference games that will count towards the NSIC Overall Champion as well as six divisional games that will count towards the NSIC North/South Championships. In all, three league championships will be awarded (Overall Champion, North Division Champion, South Division Champion). Ties will not be broken for overall or division champions.
