*LITANY Karl Dietrich One: We come to worship as unique and different people. All: We come from different backgrounds, different towns, with differing viewpoints. One: At worship we are gathered together as a family of faith. All: We believe that there is more that unites us than divides us in the worship of God. One: We worship as one people with one Lord. Let us pray…

*UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Powerful, uniting God. You have called us to love, as you are Love. You have called us to truth, as you are Truth. You have called us to be one people, as you are One. Forgive us when we fall short of your desires for us. Help us make our decisions based on love, seeking your guidance through prayer. Give us courage to face the truth, examining our own hearts for any selfish motives. Give us grace to focus on the common good, and not be driven by our own selfish interests, that we may be one body. Amen.

ATTENDING TO GOD’S WORD

ANTIPHONAL READING FROM THE SCRIPTURES Clergy, Cantor, and Congregation

Antiphon: Congregation may join the cantor in singing the antiphon.

Psalm 133 MICHEL GUIMONT

Cantor and Congregation

One: Ephesians 4:1b-4

…lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling,

Cantor and Congregation

One: 1 Peter 3:8-9 8 Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind. 9 Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse; but, on the contrary, repay with a blessing. It is for this that you were called - that you might inherit a blessing.

Cantor and Congregation

One: 1 Corinthians 1:10 10 Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in agreement and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same purpose.

Cantor and Congregation

RESPONSE One: May God who commanded light to shine out of darkness enlighten our way today. All: Amen.

READING FROM THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES Rev. Holly H. Adams

One: God’s message finds utterance in our midst. All: We wait and listen for God’s word to us today.

Jeremiah 29:4-7

4 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: 5 Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat what they produce. 6 Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease. 7 But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

RESPONSE One: God challenges us to practice righteousness. All: May our faithfulness be apparent in all we say and do.

*HYMN OF DEVOTION “In Christ There Is No East or West” MCKEE CALL TO THE GOSPEL Elaine A. Matthes

One: Silence in us, O God, any voice but your own. All: May your Word be proclaimed and received here today.

John 17:20-23

20 "I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

RESPONSE One: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. All: Thanks be to God!
