DisclaimerMap ProductionDetailed mapping of three AOIs in Libya: Benghazi city, Benghazi´s Aerodrome (El Benina) and Al-Jawf, in the Al-Kufra district.The core users of the map are the Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI) of the European Commission andUnited Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). The potential additional users of the mapare other Humanitarian Aid Operators involved in in-field operations.The scope of the map production is to generate a general reference content of the pre-event situationand a damage assessment after the violent conflict between parties in Libya. The conflict started inMay-2014 and it is still ongoing.

The present map shows the results of the urban sprawl analysis. Object-based image analysis (OBIA)was used to identify the built-up area based on Landsat 4-5 TM, Landsat 7 ETM+, Landsat 8 OLI/TIRSand Global Land Survey data with a spatial resolution of 30m.High resolution imagery data (<5m) from Google Earth (2001 and 2010) and Sentinel-2 imagery (10m)for 2017 were used to provide appropriate reference information to validate the built-up classificationover the area of interest. For the year 1988 a visual comparison with the available Landsat data hasbeen conducted.All satellite images have been radiometrically enhanced and georeferenced.All satellite images have been atmospherically and geometrically corrected.The estimated thematic accuracy of this product is 80% or better, as it is based on OBIA approach withfuzzy rule sets.Only the area enclosed by the Area of Interest has been analysed.
