Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and let them up a high mountain* by themselves. And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice** that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, “Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.” * Identified with Tabor. Its meaning is theological rather than geographical and suggests a connection between this event and God’s appearance to Moses on Sinai. ** The cloud was a Jewish image of God’s presence.

The account of the Transfiguration confirmed for Matthew and his readers that Jesus was the Son of God. The voice from heaven repeated the baptismal proclamation about Jesus with the added mandate, “listen to him.” Peter, James and John formed the inner circle among the disciples and were also the ones taken aside by Jesus in Gethsemani. As such, Matthew was very interested in their reaction to this manifestation of God’s glory. The story tells us that Peter asked permission to erect three tents in the hope that they could remain with Jesus in this awesome place until the coming of the Kingdom. This was a natural human reaction after seeing some external changes in Jesus and experiencing a glimpse of his Lordship. Jesus shattered their hopes by commanding them to go down the mountain (back to reality) and to be unafraid. The presence of Moses and Elijah represented the Law and the prophets of the Old Testament.

♦ The Transfiguration was a historical experience of visionary character.

♦ Only in the light of Jesus’ resurrection can the meaning of this event be truly understood.

♦ When the disciples were frightened Jesus encourages them not to be afraid.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús tomó consigo a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan, su hermano, y los llevó a un cerro alto, lejos de todo. En presencia de ellos, Jesús cambió de aspecto: su cara brillaba como el sol y su ropa se puso resplandeciente como la luz. En ese momento, se le aparecieron Moisés y Elías hablando con Jesús. Pedro tomó entonces la palabra y dijo a Jesús: “Señor, ¡qué bien estamos aquí! Si quieres, voy a levantar en este lugar tres chozas: una para ti, otra para Moisés y la tercera para Elías”. Pedro estaba todavía hablando cuando una nube luminosa los envolvió y una voz que salía de la nube decía: “Este es mi Hijo, el Amado, al que miro con cariño; a él han de escuchar”. Al oír la voz, los discípulos cayeron al suelo, llenos de gran temor. Jesús se acercó, los tocó y les dijo: “Levántense, no teman”. Ellos levantaron los ojos, pero no vieron a nadie más que a Jesús. Mientras bajaban del cerro, Jesús les ordenó: “No le hablen a nadie de lo que acaban de ver, hasta que el Hijo del Hombre haya resucitado de entre los muertos”.

La narrativa de la Transfiguración le confirmó a Mateo y a sus lectores que Jesús era el Hijo de Dios. La voz del cielo repitió la proclamación bautismal acerca de Jesús y añadió otro mandato: “escúchenlo”. Pedro, Santiago y Juan formaban el círculo íntimo entre los discípulos y fueron también los que Jesús llamó aparte en el Jardín de Getsemaní. Por tanto, Mateo estaba muy interesado en sus reacciones a esta manifestación de la gloria de Dios. La historia nos dice que Pedro pidió permiso para construir tres tiendas en la esperanza de que se pudieran quedar con Jesús en ese maravilloso lugar hasta la llegada del Reino. Era una reacción humana natural después de ver algunos de los cambios externos de Jesús y de experimentar una chispa de su Reinado. Jesús hizo trizas las esperanzas al exigirles que bajaran de la montaña (de nuevo a la realidad) y a no tener miedo. La presencia de Moisés y Elías representaba la Ley y los profetas del Antiguo Testamento.

♦ La Transfiguración fue una experiencia histórica de carácter visionario.

♦ Sólo a la luz de la resurrección de Cristo puede entenderse a cabalidad el significado de este evento.

♦ Cuando los discípulos se atemorizaron Jesús los animó a no tener miedo.

Guidelines to help prevent spread of

coronavirus Following the guidelines of Archbishop of Miami, Most Rev. Thomas Wenski, our Parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe offers the following norms that will take effect in our Parish in order to help prevent the spread of contagion. The same precautions taken for the flu are also to be employed to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Because we now have 2 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the state of Florida (http://www.floridahealth.gov/diseases-and-conditions/COVID-19/), the following 9 practices are suggested within our Parish territory. 1. Temporary suspension of the minor chalices used

for the distribution of the Precious Blood. 2. Temporary suspension of the communal Sign of

Peace (kissing or shaking of hands). 3. Not to hold hands during the recitation/chanting of

the Our Father. 4. Temporary suspension of the greeting before Mass

(if your parish has this practice). 5. Emptying the holy water fonts at the church doors. 6. Use of anti-bacterial soap by the Extraordinary

Ministers of Holy Communion before and after distribution of the Holy Communion.

7. Reminding parishioners that if they feel unwell or have flu like symptoms they are encouraged to stay home and join us through our YouTube Chanel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8agYsxUsZQY6JcMrqWTSAQ/videos 8. The celebrant is to use discretion if he shakes hands

while greeting parishioners before or after the Mass. 9. It is still left to the discretion of the communicant how they wish to receive the Host, nonetheless we recommend that in Our Parish the Holy Communion be received in the hand and consumed in front of the Priest or Minister.

propagación del coronavirus

Siguiendo las pautas del Señor Arzobispo de Miami, Mons.

Thomas Wenski, la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe ofrece las siguientes normas que entraran en efecto en nuestra parroquia para ayudar a prevenir la propagación de un posible contagio. Las mismas precauciones que se toman para prevenir la influenza también deben de emplearse para prevenir la propagación del coronavirus. Debido a que ahora tenemos dos (2) casos confirmados de coronavirus (http://www.floridahealth.gov/diseases-and-conditions/COVID-19/) en el estado de la Florida, se sugiere las siguiente 9 practicas: 1. Suspensión temporal de la distribución de la Preciosa

Sangre a los fieles en aquellas parroquias en la que es costumbre dar la Comunión bajo ambas especies.

2. La suspensión temporal del saludo de la paz (besos o apretones de manos).

3. No tomarse de las manos durante el rezo/canto del Padre Nuestro.

4. La suspensión temporal del saludo antes de la misa (si su parroquia tiene esta práctica).

5. Vaciar las fuentes de agua bendita en las puertas de la iglesia.

6. El uso de jabón antibacterial por los ministros extraordinarios de la Sagrada Comunión antes y después de la distribución de la Sagrada Eucaristía.

7. Recordar a los feligreses que si tienen síntomas similares a los de la gripe quedarse en casa y que los invitamos a unirse a nuestras celebraciones por medio del canal de YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8agYsxUsZQY6JcMrqWTSAQ/videos

8. Queda a discreción del celebrante si saluda a los feligreses antes o después de la misa.

9. Queda a discreción del comulgante como desea recibir la Comunión, aunque en nuestra Parroquia recomendamos recibir la Eucaristía en la mano y consumir la Sagrada Forma frente al Sacerdote o Ministro.

Lenten Reflection Preacher: Msgr. Roberto Garza Topic: The Power of Silence during Lent When: Thursday March 12 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM Where: Parish Temple

Mons. Roberto Garza nació el 2 de octubre de 1967 en Tulia, Texas, siendo el mayor de cuatro hijos. Sus tatarabuelos eran ganaderos del sur de España que se establecieron en esa zona de los Estados Unidos cuando era parte de México. Sus padres se mudaron a Clewiston cuando él era joven y se graduó de la preparatoria Clewiston antes de ingresar al Seminario St. John Vianney. Fue ordenado para la Arquidiócesis de Miami el 11 de mayo de 1996 y sirvió en St. Mary Star of the Sea en Key West antes de ser enviado a Roma para obtener una licenciatura en misionología de la Universidad Grego-riana. Trabajó con Caridades Católicas y como pastor de la Parroquia San Isidro en Pompano Beach antes de ser nombrado director de vocaciones arquidiocesanas en enero de 2009, Director de Radio Paz en el 2017 y en el 2018 fue nombrado pastor de la parroquia San Joaquín.
