Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O, Lord, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, who is Emmanuel, God's love with us and in us. Amen.

Holiday Office Hours

Our main office will be closed on the following dates for Christmas and New Year: Monday, December 26 Friday, December 30 Monday, January 2

Men’s Retreat Today more than ever, the world needs Godly men. Men who will step up and courageously lead at home, church, work and in their communities. That’s the message of the men’s ministry at Calvary. This day long retreat will engage you in learning and stretch you as we envision the future possibilities for the men’s ministry here at Calvary. It promises to be a day filled with learning and fellowship. Pastor Ken a trained spiritual director and retreat leader will be teaching “real world” strategies of prayer and discernment that will help you keep Christ in the center of a busy life. Then after lunch we will facilitate an afternoon of “possibility” while we develop a plan for Men’s Ministry for Calvary. This is a one day retreat on January 28

th hosted at St. Augustine House

Monastery starting at 8 a.m. with worship and finishing at 4 p.m. (approx.) Lunch will be provided, costs to be determined (Approx. $20 per person). Register soon with Carl Bloom or Intern Pastor Ken. Online registration on our events page at calvaryinfo.org.

Christmas Message from Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton I remember my home growing up. It was on the west side of Cleveland… I still dream about it. It was a place where I felt safe, where my family was and it was full of wonderful Christmas memories. My senior year of college, my parents moved to the shores of Lake Erie. It’s every west sider’s dream in Cleveland to get to the lake, and they finally made it. But my home was gone. In fact, I had to find directions to my parents’ home for Christmas break. I still dream about the home where I grew up. I still miss it and can still remember every feature of it. And I realize that all of us have a deep longing for home. At Christmastime, I think it’s especially poignant and deep for people. Many of our Christmas carols talk about being home for Christmas and how hard it is when we’re not. Then I remembered that Mary and Joseph were not home for Christmas that first year. They were far from their home, far from their people. They were way down in Bethlehem, far from Nazareth. How disorienting that must have been for them. But the truth is, Mary and Joseph were exactly at home for Christmas because with them was the Christ child. Jesus is our true home. That’s our hope at Christmastime and our hope the year round. We are never far from home because Christ is as near to us as our own breath or our own pulse. So, wherever you find yourself this year, dear church, remember that Jesus is with you, and you are home for Christmas. Merry Christmas, The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton Presiding Bishop Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Like to help people? Great! We do too. One volunteer needed once a week to help process financial assistance calls. Training is provided and our system is online so you can work from the church or from home. Calvary processes about 250 calls each year for families in need. This system is set up to help people with utilities and eviction notices. You will return calls and use our guidelines to determine how we can help. Great phone skills and ability to learn a new software program are necessary, along with a passion to serve the local community as the hands and feet of Christ. Staff Contact: Deborah Robitaille
