Church on the Lake We would like to thank each of our volunteers that have helped

make our Church on the Lake such a special time this summer. It

was very well attended. Thank you for helping set up chairs,

helping with food or coffee, helping greet and hand out bulletins,

providing our paper products, bringing special decorations, taking

up offering and counting attendance. Each person working together

made it possible… So thank you very much. A special thank you to

Woodmen of the world again for allowing Salem to use the shelter

area for the summer.

Thank you Marie Wicker for preparing and printing our bulletins

each week. Thank you Gary Phillips for bringing the message.

Thank you Janice Ayers, Michelle Page, Donna Corley, Sarah

We appreciate you all. Phillip and Millie Fore.

Homecoming, September 15th

Reverend Patricia Parrish from Washington Street United

The Giving Corner Our Missions committee would like to call your attention to our

new “Giving Corner” that has been created for a multitude of

mission collections as well as recognition of servanthood. It is still

conveniently located in the same spot (just before entering into the

soon for the appropriate items being collected. Stay tuned to the

bulletin and newsletters for further information on the various

missions focus.

PRESENTATION OF BIBLES

Minister: Today is a very special day in the life of this congregation. We

have come together to worship God and to present Bibles to our third

grade students. Boys and girls, you have reached a special time in your

church life. You have heard Bible stories read to you, you have looked at

pictures in Bible story books, and you have memorized Bible verses. But

now the time has come for you to have your very own Bible, to read the

stories and discover Christian faith for yourself experiencing the truths of

these stories. We, the congregation, rejoice with you in this special time

of growth, and we now pass on to you this valuable treasure-book of our

faith.

1ST

Presenter (Tina Overton): Our treasure is wrapped in brown

wrapping paper to remind you that this is a very old book. This is a book

of thirty centuries. Can you imagine how long thirty centuries are? Some

parts of this book were composed more than a thousand years before

Christ. Some of the stories are so old they were told even before people

knew how to write.

CONGREGATION: WE PRAISE GOD FOR THIS ANCIENT

TREASURE AND THANK GOD FOR THE BIBLE.

2nd

Presenter (Maggie Brewton): We think of gold as the most

valuable thing there is, but this treasure is more valuable than gold

because it is a source of truth and guidance for our lives, and even gold

cannot buy these things. Men and women have died to have this book.

They have been imprisoned because they read it. In some churches to

show how much this book is valued, people decorate it with jewels.

CONGREGATION: WE PRAISE GOD FOR THIS VALUABLE

TREASURE AND THANK GOD FOR OUR BIBLE.

3RD

Presenter (Heather Magann): This is a book of stories. Some of

the best stories in the world are found in this book: Joseph in the pit,

Daniel in the lions’ den, Moses receiving the Ten Commandments on the

high mountain, and Paul ship-wrecked. And we will wonder, what did the

story mean to the very first people who ever heard it? Why did people

think this story was so important that it must be written down? What do

the stories mean for your life?

CONGREGATION: WE PRAISE GOD FOR THE STORIES OF

OUR FAITH AND THANK GOD FOR OUR BIBLE.

4TH

Presenter (Jennifer Brewton): The Bible is an inspired book. It

came from a people who had a special understanding of God. Therefore it

is not like any other book you will ever own. When you read it, you will

understand what God is like and what He wants you to do. In the Bible

we have a message from God and about God.

CONGREGATION: WE PRAISE GOD FOR THIS INSPIRED

BOOK AND THANK GOD FOR OUR BIBLE.

Minister: These holy words are our wish for you. May you also grow in

wisdom and stature and favor with God and all of humanity.
