BartlesvilleChapterisalreadyworkingonChristmasprojects.Wehavevolunteered4nightstoworkFantasylandofLightsinJohnstonePark.WepassoutcandycanesandcollectdonationsastheydrivethroughthePark.TonitaMoran,ElaineStevens&LisaKingworkedthefirstnight.

WealsoprovideChristmasgiftstomanyareaNursingHomeresidentswithoutfamily.TheWishListsarecominginandshoppingandwrappingwillfollow!SuziBirminghamhasscheduledDecember7toassemblethelocalHeadstartPreschoolgiftsanddeliverthem.WeareprovidingcookiesandworkersforSanta’sCottageattheFrankPhillipsHomeonDecember10.ThenourmembersBIGChristmasPartyonDecember14!

Georgia Hedrick and friend Judy sailed the Columbia River on an American Cruise Line “Queen of the West” paddleboat. They flew to Portland, Ore. and boarded the 148 passenger “small ship” to visit Hood River & Multnomah Falls, OR plus Mt. St. Helens, WA. 30 years after the eruption some small plants are beginning to recover in the area. They followed the Lewis & Clark Expedition Route to Astoria, Oregon whose journey was completed at the Pacific Ocean. Georgia and Judy visited ‘Cape Disappointment’ where the River meets the Ocean. It was so named after an 1870’s ship could not enter the turbulent river

after numerous attempts. Even today all ships sailing through this area must have a Licensed Master on board. The destruction of the 2017 forest fires is still visible. These fires are now 60% contained.

They enjoyed the peaceful cruise, the good food, great service and made several new friends. They liked it so much they have booked a Christmas cruise on the Mississippi!!

JPSmemberCathyMcFarlandwaspartofagroupof5ConocoPhillipsEmployeeswhohelpedthePriceTowerArtsCenterprotectastatueforaDayofCaringProjectinOctober.TheSixty-SixstatuebyRobertIndianaispositionedacrossfromthePriceTowerandpartofthecenter’spermanentexhibits.Thevolunteerswashedandtreatedthestatuewithprotectivecoatings,underthedirectionofthemuseumstaff.Workingdiligentlyonacloudymorningtogettheworkdonebeforethestormshitintheafternoon,theyfinishedjustasitstartedtosprinkle.ThentheArtsCentertreatedthevolunteerstolunchattheCopperBarandRestaurantonthe15thfloor.Theyenjoyedwonderfulfoodandafabulousview.

ThePriceTowerisagreatplacetovisit.ItistheonlyFrankLloydWrightskyscraperdesignactuallybuilt.TheTowernowhousesa19-roomhotel,restaurant,architecturalstudycenter,andartgalleries.Thetopthreefloorshavebeenrestoredtotheiroriginal1956appearanceandtoursareavailable.

It’smy(Sally)monthto“reportthenews”.IhopeeveryonehadalovelyThanksgivingholiday.Pumpkinpie,turkey&dressing,friendsandfamily…Ihadamemorableweek.Alaparoscopicappendectomy!!!NotthewayIhadplannedonspendingtheholiday,butIamthankfulforthedoctorsandnursesthattookcareofmewhileinthehospital.Thehospitalchaplainvisitedpriortosurgerytoprayoverme…Irequestedheprayforthesurgeon!Aftersigningthewaiverofallthethingsthatcouldgowrong,Ifiguredthesurgeoncoulduseanangellookingoverhisshoulder.Ididmissmymamma’scooking,butIlearnedtobegratefulforthesurgicalandnursing“gifts”giventoourhealers.Channelmadetwodonationsthismonth:Samaritan’sPurseandWreathesAcrossAmerica.

JPS Thanksgiving Fundraiser had spectacular results

PanhandleChapterhadagreatturnoutatthisyear’s Thanksgiving Luncheon. JPS was fortunate to haveDarlaHarrimanhostthisyear’s Thanksgiving luncheon.Weputtogetherover61togoplatesfordeliverybeforethedoorseveropened.Theto-gowindowandtheinsidewerebusyuntilafternoonputtingallthefixinsontheplates.Turkey,dressing,mashedpotatoes,gibletgravy,greenbeans,cranberrysauceandadinnerrollwasenoughtokeepalltheplantsregularscomingbackyearafteryear.Therewasalsodessertandteaavailableaswell.I’m sure all participants were ready for a nap after they finished their plates. After all the cleanup, most of the workers were ready for a massage and anapspeakingformyselfthatis.JPSisveryfortunatetohavegreatsupportfrombothplants’ employeesas wellasallthegreatcontractorsthatalwaysparticipate. ManyofthepeopledonatetherestoftheirticketmoneytoJPSwhichisalwayshelpfulwhenJPSistryingtoprovidetothoseinneedatthistimeoftheyear.JPSisveryappreciativeofallthegenerouspeoplethatsupportourcharitablecauses.
