A Message from your Dixie Olds Club President

Wow! What a fun and exciting year for the

Dixie Olds Club. It seems like it was only a few weeks ago when we were planning our programs and putting our yearly calendar together. And now, we’ve just celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year’s will be here before you know it!

Looking back, it’s been a great year for our club. In May, we hosted a very successful BOPC show with a large turnout. In addition to many fabulous Oldsmobiles we had lots of great models from Buick, Pontiac and Cadillac. Also, many of those fabulous Oldsmobiles brought home awards – 18 in fact! President’s Message (Continued from Page 1)

Oldsmobile show, “The Gathering.” And no car show planning endeavor would be complete without a delicious Pizza & Beer Party and

Work Day in September at the beautiful home of Stefan and Marian

Bartelski. For our newest members and others who might not be aware, Stefan and Marian have a authentic brick pizza oven and a micro-brewery right on their property! If you haven’t tried homemade Pizza and a nice, cold, beer, you’re missing out! This is another one of those events we hope to continue – that is, if they’ll have us!

The GatheringThe show in October was another big success as we again were able to donate $1,000 to the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum in Lansing, Michigan. Be sure to check out some of the highlights, winner’s listing, and pictures of this year’s

show, featured in this issue of our newsletter and a larger collection of pictures on our Facebook page and our Dixie Olds Club website. Many thanks to the volunteers and the attendees who made this event happen and we’re looking forward to another successful Gathering in October 2018.

The club has continued its growth during 2017 with the addtion of seven new members. That puts us at over 84 members as of our last chapter meeting. With our faithful membership and the conscientious leadership of my fellow board members, the club is fi nancially sound.

Interest in the Oldsmobile hobby from our members and non-members continues to be strong and indicates excellent potential for future growth. This is evidenced in the number of non-members who continue to view and interact with both our website and on our Facebook page.

In conclusion, I would like to

thank our members and volunteers whose hard work and dedication make the club such a success. I want to especially thank our board members – including our outgoing Club Representative, Joe Fotschky – for their help and support. Joe is stepping down from his position at the end of the year and Amy Becham will be assume this role. She will also continue as Membership Coordinator and Newsletter Editor. Special thanks to Bob Snider who was recently elected to the role of Club Secretary – welcome to the team! Lastly, special thanks to returning board members Vice President Stefan Bartelski, Treasurer Vicki Mell, and your’s truly as President. We appreicate your confi dence in us and we promise to continue to strive to make the club even better in the coming year. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and we hope to see you at our fi rst meeting of 2018 in February. In the meantime hope to see you on the road in your Oldsmobile!

Doug

MEMBER SPOTLIGHTA few sightings of our members attending car shows and other interesting tidbits!

September 30 and October 1, 2017 were the dates for the 2017 Atlanta Concours d’Elegance at Chateau Elan Winery and Resort. This was the second year for the event here in Atlanta and featured a rare, multi-million dollar collection of classic automobiles and vintage motorcycles displayed throughout the 3500 acre estate. Our own Dixie Olds Club member, Stefan Bartelski, had the distinct honor of being a featured participant in the event, displaying his 1951 88 4 door sedan.
