8:45 9:45 EPA Update and Septic Smart Week, Maureen A. Pepper (Tooke), Decentralized Wastewater Mgmt. Program/SepticSmart US EPA, Office of Wastewater Mgmt. - Idaho Operations Office (IOO) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency held its second annual SepticSmart Week on Sept. 22-26. SepticSmart Week outreach activities encourage homeowners and communities to care for and maintain their septic systems. Looking to 2015, how can Oregon do it's best through education and leveraging partnerships within the state and in watersheds that cross state lines. How can everyone be a part of the initiative?

10:15 11:15

Where is the Box? (and How Do I Think Outside of It?), Robert W. Wright, P.E., National Association of Wastewater Technicians A two-part discussion, focused on the mental tools/skills practitioners need to troubleshoot/problem solve OWTS. A discussion of what is the box, and how do we identify it? What skills do we need to be good troubleshooters? What tools do we use when troubleshooting? What pitfalls do we encounter and how can we circumvent them? The second part of the presentation will consist of examples we have encountered in troubleshooting and problem solving in design, installation, OandM and repairs.

11:15 12:15

ODOT and Your Bottom Line, Paula Hartland, Compliance Investigator, Oregon Department of Transportation, Motor Carrier Division Understanding why compliance improves highway safety and how it can affect your maintenance and operational costs, down time and even insurance rates.

Track 1 Track 2 Track 3 2:00 3:00 Rule Changes and Updates OSHA Jurisdiction and Top 10 Safety Violations Microbiology: In You and Out of You

Paula Hartland / ODOT Larry Fipps OSHA Erin O'Connell, REHS Columbia County

Get the latest updates to State and Federal DOT rules and regulations effecting your motor carrier operations, vehicles and drivers.

This is a presentation covering the OR-OSHA rules on excavation and what it requires to be a compe-tent person. We will discussion when shoring or some other means of protection is required and a brief discussion on soil types. We will also discuss what generates an inspection and what to expect.

This presentation will explore the circular relationship of health and wastewater microbiology and how dis-ease related processes of both can impact the oth-er. A person’s health can be compromised when exposed to wastewater resulting in illness and/or dis-ease. Likewise, health issues, especially treatment protocols, can impact the microbiology of wastewater. Understanding factors of both can result in healthier people and systems.

3:20 4:20 ODOT Truck Inspection Procedure Assessment Of Time Of Transfer Inspections and Existing System Evaluations Report

Residential Contractors: Did You Know...?

Paula Hartland / ODOT Robb Barnes, Kings Pumping Laurie Hall, Licensing Manager, CCB

Ever wonder what DOT is looking for when your truck pulls through a weigh station? This is your chance to observe an actual DOT vehicle inspec-tion and get answers to any questions you may have.

This class will bring attendees up to date on this process, the use of the revised inspection form, its proper completion and the financial benefit to on-site professionals in offering this service to their clients and the clients of the local real estate organizations.

This is an opportunity to gain a clearer understanding related to the complexities of Residential Construction Contractor licensing in Oregon. We will discuss en-dorsements, including new restricted residential en-dorsements implemented in 2014, continuing educa-tion law changes, and general lead base paint and workers compensation requirements.

James Imlah, Electrical Plans Examiner, Residen-tial Mechanical and Residential Structural Inspector

Mark McCollum, SJE Rhombus Erin Mick, REHS, Regulator Multnomah County, Personnel Trainer

The presentation will be a time for questions and answers for the attendees with discussion of elec-trical liabilities, licensing requirements, wiring meth-ods, voltage drop safety considerations and instal-lations affected by environmental conditions. There will be a couple of possible calculations for conduc-tor sizing, acceptable conductor installation meth-ods, and motors.

An overview of the need to develop more sophisti-cated and complex controls for the water/wastewater industry. Examples will be given of each as a whole unit and also components and how to use them to point out the visual differences and the operational differences. Mark will identify the benefits and drawbacks for each style.

An on site stretching program should encourage all employees to get ready for the day. Stretching pro-grams should be conducted during the morning safety briefing.
