FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK This Veteran’s Day weekend we pause to remember the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. By the time you read these notes we will have elected a new President of the United States. Let us be thankful for the freedom our veterans have given us so that we can vote and choose a new president. Let us pray that we will all come together and unite as one people to make our country great and strong. We do this by each of us having an active relationship with Our Loving Lord. Through prayer and sacrifice, we can and will make our country great. As has been our custom here at St. Anthony, we will have a Mass of Thanksgiving on Wednesday evening, November 23rd at 7 PM. We will distribute blessed loaves of bread for you to bring to your table of thanksgiving. In return, we ask you to bring canned goods for the poor. It’s a time for all to give thanks.

Fr. George *

NOVEMBER 13TH SECOND COLLECTIONThe envelope company made a mistake and supposed to make the second collection this weekend for our PROPERTY INSURANCE. Instead they made the envelope out for our Grand Annual. Therefore, please use your envelopes for November 13th for our Property Insurance. The second installment of the Grand Annual will be on the weekend of December 3rd and 4th. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

*RETIRED NUNS COLLECTION

The second collection to be taken up at all Masses next weekend will help the retired Nuns of the Archdiocese with their retirement and health needs.

The Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Our Parish Theme SongLord, you have come to the seashore,

neither searching for the rich nor the wise, desiring only that I should follow.

O Lord, with your eyes set upon me gently smiling,

you have spoken my name; all I long for I found by the water, at your side

I will seek other shores. CONFIRMATION NEWS

“It is the nature of man to want what he does not have. This modern concern for happiness seems a real testimony of its absence.” - Criss Jami “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete”. (John 15/11). These words of Jesus tell us that He is the source of happiness and joy which we are seeking. Confirmation Program prepares the candidates not only to have this happiness and joy in their lives that Jesus is offering, but also to be the channels of happiness and joy to others. This weekend, November 13, 2016 we all celebrate Veterans Day. We remember the fallen as well as the living heroes of the wars. They sacrificed their lives and well-being for our safety and happiness. It is our duty to honor them and do prayers for them and their families. This weekend in their memory, it has been declared a holiday to our Faith Formation Program. For both Year I and Year II, Confirmation Candidates, there will be no sessions on this weekend but all have to attend any one of the weekend Masses and sign the attendance sheet left in the church vestibule. November 20, 2016 is the weekend for “Mass of Introduction and Initiation” for the first year confirmation candidates and “Mass of Commitment” for the second year confirmation candidates. All the candidates, both Year I and Year II are required to be at the church with their parents and sponsors at 11:30 AM on that day to get prepared for the 12 Noon Mass. If you have any concerns or questions, please call Fr. Xavier on 781-244-9162 or email at [email protected].

FAITH FORMATION NEWS There are NO Faith Formation classes this weekend due to the Veteran’s Day holiday. Classes will resume next weekend on November 20, 2016.

Next weekend, November 20th, is our Annual Food Drive for the Revere Food Pantry. Please send a donation of non-perishable food to donate. Your child will bring it up to the altar during the Offertory Procession. Thank you in advance for your generosity as we teach our children about social justice as Jesus asked us to “feed the poor.”

We will have another planning meeting for our Pancake Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, November 19th at 11:00 in the Faith Formation Building. To those who have volunteered, thank you so much, and if you would like to help out, please come to the meeting! It takes many of Santa’s “Helpers” to make the day a big success. The breakfast is December 4th!

We have received a note from Santa and he is looking forward to his annual visit to St. Anthony’s for his big pancake breakfast. This year the breakfast will take place in the church hall from 8:30 until 11:30 AM on December 4th. There will be pancakes, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, juice, tea, cocoa, coffee and milk. Price for the ticket is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under 10. Get your tickets early and come and enjoy this annual holiday tradition! God Bless You! Donna M. Felzani

PRESENCE OF GOD

We all go to different shrines as pilgrims to get the blessings of God. We strongly believe when the blessing (Presence) of God is with us, we will be victorious and prosperous in all our endeavors. It is the custom of the people of Israel to bless another person saying “Lord be with you” when he or she goes on a long journey, and involves in important activities. Even today, the priest greets or blesses the people of God saying “Lord be with You” both in the beginning and end of the Eucharistic celebration. Above all, Scripture provides endless examples of how the presence of God empowers his children, Abraham, Moses, Joseph, Joshua, David and totally the people of Israel to live for Him. Mother Mary always has a special veneration throughout the centuries in the life of the Catholic Church. The only reason is that God is always with her. The Angel Gabriel greets her, “Hail favored one! The Lord is with you.” (Lk.1:28). When Mary visited Elizabeth, the infant in the womb of Elizabeth leaped for joy. (Lk. 1:44). The reason for joy is that God is with Mary. In the book of Zephaniah the prophet instructs the people of Israel to be joyful and fearless because the King of Israel, the Lord is in your midst. (Zep 3:14-15). All the great personalities in the bible were joyful and fearless in spite of hardships and sufferings in and around them because they felt the presence of God with them. In the same way, Mary, despite so many problems and mysteries in her heart, was always joyful and fearless because God is with her. It is very clear that the presence of God always makes us joyful and fearless. The people of Israel and a few great personalities were defeated by their enemies and led fearful lives when they were in sin. Let us remove all the obstacles from our lives to feel the presence of God to lead a joyful and fearless life. (continued next column)

The Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

PRESENCE OF GOD PRAYER: Almighty God, I thank You for Your powerful presence in my life. Your presence always brings joy despite of trials and tribulation in and around me. I feel sorry for my sins. Bless me to be in Your presence throughout my life. I ask this in the name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen. Edited and compiled by Fr. Heni

+ November 13-Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Liturgical Year is drawing to a close and the readings have a dark, somewhat frightening tenor about them. But Jesus offers hope, even amid predictions of “…powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place” and yes, persecution too. In a special way today, pray for Christian martyrs around the world. Pray for the victims of natural disasters. The growing secularization of our culture demands that people of faith be ready to give testimony to the saving message of Jesus Christ. Think about how God is part of your life; this is your story, your testimony. Jesus assures us, “I myself, shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute”. Trust Jesus, He will give you the wisdom to say what needs to be said.
