James BurrowsStrategy and Change Lead, GroupHaving joined the BB Services Divisional team in Oct 2011, an immediate challenge for me was to understand the four constituent OpCos in more detail. This learning process was accelerated through the facilitation of several site visits (Project Involve) and a series of networking events (BBLINK). During my time within the team I was responsible for a diverse range of activities, including a CSR project, design and facilitation of the Services Leadership event, working with the global mobility team on international development and establishing a Graduate Network. In addition I was responsible for the coordination and management of the Fit for Growth programme, working alongside key stakeholders across the Division to deliver substantial in year savings.Exactly one year on, I have been seconded to the Group Strategy and Change team where I am working on the Group Operating Model design and implementation of the Sector Verticals.

Nicky ThammavongClient Relations Director, WorkSmart
I joined BB WorkSmart in December 2010 as part of the Senior Management Team, and we were, at that time, setting up a new Balfour Beatty OpCo. My remit was to design and implement the Service Management framework (development of the initial Client Engagement process, KPI’s and performance reporting/review processes, Issue Management process, Business Activity Review processes and the Joint Business Planning processes.)My focus in my current role, and in previous roles I held both in IBM and Procter & Gamble, is the Client; if you don’t have a client who is satisfied and confident in your ability to provide service, you don’t have a business, so its critical that a good relationship is built. At the same time we need to ensure that Client expectations are clearly set with regards to the service they should expect, and expectation management is a critical and ongoing process.Being part of the Future Talent Community has been fantastic – its given me access to a wide range of very interesting and experienced people and I have built a strong network within the Division, and it has challenged me to think and work differently. It really is a fantastic opportunity.

Louise ColleyBusiness Development Manager, WorkPlaceWhat a difference a year makes! This time last year I was finalising the bid for London Legacy Development Corporation’s estate services in particular building a proposal on how BBW could run a visitor attraction- the Orbit. We were successful and signed the deal in January 2012.As BDM on the Orbit proposal I was given the opportunity to operate the Orbit on behalf of LOCOG during Games. It was a fantastic opportunity to gain the operational experience I had longed for, to deliver a new service concept and demonstrate how we could deliver exceptional customer service to the general public whilst having the worlds eyes upon us- I’ve also learnt a few things about lifts!BBW were hugely successful during this period- keeping the Balfour Beatty name out of the press, keeping the risks of the contract to a minimum which included no recorded customer complaints or ticket refunds whilst managing to give 130,000 members of the public an enjoyable experience.I still continue to have the bug for operations and as ArcelorMittal Orbit General Manager- will continue to grow the business and develop a new visitor experience for early opening in 2013.

Hiran De AlwisProgramme Manager, WorkSmart
I joined Balfour Beatty WorkSmart in January 2011 as Transition and Transformation Project Manager in the IT and Transformation Team. Since joining, I have played a key role in leading the transition of the ‘Lift & Shift’ OpCo’s, Group Head Office to Oracle R12 and most recently, the BBW transition to Oracle. In recognition of my achievements so far, I was promoted to ‘Programme Manager’ in August 2012. Prior to joining Balfour Beatty, I spent 7 years at IBM UK and during this time, worked and had leadership roles in Global Mobility, Payroll, Master Data Management, Compensation Planning, Business Process Improvement (as a Six Sigma Green Belt) and the last few years, Project and Transition Management.
Being part of the Future Talent Community has been great – it has given me access to a wide range of interesting and experienced people and I have built a strong network within the Division.

Louise ReynoldsProcurement Category Manager, WorkSmart and Divisional Innovation Leadership Team (ILT) member
I joined BB WorkSmart in May 2011 as a Procurement Category Manager in thenewly-formed Supply Chain Management Team. Prior to joining Balfour Beatty I had worked for 11 years in procurement within Tata Steel. Since joining BB WorkSmart I’ve been instrumental in creating & managing a portfolio of supply contracts to the value £50 million, from which £8 million of benefits have been realised in 2012 for the BB Group. In addition, I represent the Services Division at group level for innovation. The role fits well with my supply chain responsibilities as I benefit from both divisional and supply-chain networks, and I’m always keen to hear about our great ideas to add value!

Martin BurholtSector Director - MPA, WorkPlaceWith over 20 years of facilities and property
management experience, I am BBW’s Director for their
Public Sector business. Having commenced my career
with Balfour Beatty in 2008 as the Account Director
for the Metropolitan Police contract, I have been
privileged to enjoy consistent business growth and
career progression within the Group.During the year that I attended the Future Talent
Community, I not only survived being the lead for
BBW’s London 2012 Olympic efforts, I also took on
additional responsibility for our Covion, Local
Authority FM and Education contracts and became a
board director for Monteray, our JV with BT.
My degree in sport and recreation and an early
career within local government may be unusual for a
facilities manager, but have proven very useful in
developing and delivering business to the public
sector which includes the Olympic legacy contract.
I live in Sussex with my gorgeous wife and two
daughters.

26 Royal Mail FM professionals have transferred to Romec
from Royal Mail creating a more integrated management

of the organisation. The contract performance scorecard has exceeded
expectations in some areas, with some areas still
requiring focus. The scorecard overall returned a bonus
profit position in Year 1 and is on course to do the same
in year 2.We have successfully rolled out the governance
requirements of the Enterprise deal.Key challenges ahead include retention of the Post Office

Joanne MorganHead of Operational Services/Cost Management Gas & Water OperationsI have worked for Balfour Beatty Utilities for approximately 2 years and have
a national role covering all contracts within gas & water, previous to this I
worked for United Utilities as Regional Delivery Manager responsible for
wastewater operations. Having been in the contracting/utilities industry for the past 19 years gives
me a varied range of experiences from site level to board room, in both
contracting and client organisations. Starting a site level and progressing
into senior management gives me the advantage of understanding how both the
client and the contractor thinks and operates including how activities may be
priced and the appreciation of the customer, regulatory and financial
challenges the client organisation needs to achieve. Having worked at a
senior level for the last few years, I am now looking to progress to the next
level within my career.“A leader with personal integrity, who is loyal, who cares and is not afraid

Rob PrettyStrategy & Transformation Director, WorkSmart2012 has been a busy year for us all in the Services Division and WorkSmart has seen its fair share of change and excitement. We have evolved into a multi –site delivery organisation and added additional services to our portfolio, HR & IT Services in Derby and the beginnings of the future ITSS organisation in Newcastle. I have been putting to good use some of the techniques and approaches we have see in the Future group - with a degree of scampering , some creative approaches to problem solving and a keen focus on collaboration and team work. Personally 2012 was a great year , I have taken a new role on the WorkSmart Operating committee board focusing on the mid to long term strategy and delivery architecture as we mature the services and build new lines of business. Leading the development of a Highways Vertical in Australia. This new business will harness the strengths of PB, CSUK and BBLP to enter this new outsourcing market. The market is fuelled by East coast political reform and contestability. We have shaped the early integrated highway maintenance opportunities in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales into performance based contracts using UK examples to support our proposalsOur offer builds on PB’s reputation as ‘Trusted Adviser’ to the existing state Transport clients supported by BB’s expertise around asset lifecycles and enhancing public satisfaction.I am currently building a local team supplemented by UK experts that will, shape bid, mobilise and deliver these opportunities starting in January 2013. It is estimated that approximately $1.5bn (ACV) will be tendered by the end of 2016. I am really excited by this opportunity.
