— Metal Bulletin zine P.O. Box 1339 Lake Stevens WA 98258 USA All album reviews, news, updates below are by MMB, unless stated otherwise. ** The Seeds of Datura (Kenya) There are interesting things happening in heavy metal music in Kenya and there is a handful of bands that have come to the attention of the seekers and searchers of the world. Bands like In Oath, Absence of Light, Last Year’s Tragedy, Mortal Soul, Lust of a Dying Breed—some of which have been featured in this publication—have had their names circulated around in blogs, zines and magazines. If you are curious to know what’s happening in metal music in Kenya, there is an even newer band that this publication has never reported about: The Seeds of Datura. To be completely honest, I had never even heard of this band until very recently. I am unable to present you with tons of information at this point, but let’s get to what we do know right now. First things first, the two links below are a great way to learn more about The Seeds of Datura. On Bandcamp there are four songs. The oldest one is called “Empty Chasm of Pain” and it is from April 2016. This track is a total mellow/ballad vibe, and it is a trick, a trick because things are about to get heavier with the next one called “Wonderland” from October 2016. Here we begin to hear the crazier, heavier sound. “Mortalized Eternity” is the next one and it is from March 2017, and now we are in extreme metal territory. The recording is raw, as is the energy, with both low growling and higher growling. The speed is uptempo for headbanging. Of the three songs so far, this one goes more directly for the heavy metal intensity. There is also melodic guitar that runs

through the whole song. That brings us to “Pokea Uponyaji.” Once again, we are dealing with an extreme metal song. At this point, The Seeds of Datura is coming across as a really heavy band with both low growling and the angrier, sinister vocals. The music is midtempo and super heavy. This last track has lyrics in Swahili and the lyrics are posted on Bandcamp. Given that the song is midtempo, you can growl along and learn some Swahili with this band. Anyway, they describe themselves as “a six-piece progressive metal band.” As you can imagine, we’ll have to see what musical roads this young band will be travelling. Whatever those roads are, we hope they continue on the proud path of heavy metal music in Kenya. theseedsofdaturametal.bandcamp.com facebook.com/The-seeds-of-Datura-1338054662890929/?fref=nf *** AlNamrood (Saudi Arabia) Supporters of black metal music, as well as fans of pagan and folk extreme metal, will want to take note of AlNamrood. In particular, the Saudi Arabians have returned with another work to celebrate heavy metal music the way this underground band knows how: maniacal tunes focused on the pagan thinking for their interpretation of black metal in their part of the world. You've got to hear this band for yourself to understand how mad or genius these musicians must be. The new album is called Enkar and they continue building upon their catchy form of Middle Eastern melodies embedded within an extreme metal poetics. At times it sounds like deranged babbling and at other times it sounds like belly dance music, or both, really, it's something you'll have to judge for yourself. Personally, I think it is awesome, great stuff. Fortunately, you can hear the complete new work at the first link below.

AlNamrood Enkar release date: May 16th, 2017 label: Shaytan Productions OFFICIAL: The private citizens life has become public while the public officials lives have become private. The watchful eye of control, suppression and manipulation face rebellion and fuel anti-establishment. The Saudis return with their 6th album of angry protest. Adopting punk influence into their first wave style of black metal the sound is distinctly Arabian complete with oriental instrumentation. Metal Observes says about the new album: "Much of the lush middle-eastern instrumentation is pushed to the background in favor of the riffs on this album. AlNamrood make it work to their advantage though because when it is used, it adds tremendous depth and variety to the songs. This is especially effective on the instrumental “Egwaa” as well as “Ezdraa,” which really exemplifies AlNamrood’s new approach and why it works quite well for them. The closing track, “Entiqam,” might actually be the best track on the album as it contains great riffs, a bouncing melody, and plenty of folk instrumentation. It actually sounds like a classic AlNamrood track but with heavier riffs and crisper drumming, which is a good thing in this case." Ave Noctum has remarked about the new title: "Put very simply, this album feels inspired and motivated. Apart from the honesty of its’ contents, the artwork is a significant feature. A singular figure with an “A” on his back awaiting his fate as fellow incarcerated men oversee the extremity of their circumstance and underpin the reality within which a band like this must create. I have to admit to being a newcomer to AlNamrood. Fans of metal,

irrespective of genre should listen to this for its importance as a document of defiance, art and self-expression." They are proud to play the style of crossover music associated with bands like Suicidal Tendencies (notice how Santa Muerte spells their song "Cyco Pit"), DRI, The Exploited and all those 80s groups mixing punk and metal and songs that go fast and faster. Santa Muerte slows down exactly 0% of the time because there are no flowers to be smelled here, only songs that will not stop for anything. Like their influences, the band prefers shouted street vocals and there are no attempts to have singing or melodic vocals, it's all just energetic shouting and screaming about the things that make the São Paulo trio tick. This is their first EP and it is "free/name your price" on Bandcamp. Crossover fans of the 80s or fans of today’s crossover will be the main target audience for these Brazilians.

Allen (guitars) explains the band’s plans. Can you give us an update on the band’s new recording? Online it says that there will be new music in 2017. We were actually in pre-production when we ran into problems, caused by changing work schedules as well as some unforeseen health issues. We're still dealing with some of this, and have underwent a change in the bass dept

as Daren Weaser is stepping away from music at this time. Adam Vosler, formerly of Spare Me Poseidon, well known in the local scene, will be taking the reins on bass going forward. We still have plans to record in 2017, but we'll have to take it step by step for now. There are three After the Fallout upcoming shows. June 23 in Tacoma, June 24 in Everett and July 15 in Fife. Will there be more shows or will you be too busy recording? The music we're going to be recording is written and tight. These shows are some of the best ones to catch us at for now, but there will be more on the calendar before too long. Once we get in the studio, it won’t take long to record, so l don't foresee any major down time in conjunction with that. We'll be taking a break in December around the holidays.

I know your songs from 2010, like “Destruction of a Relic,” “Mindless Reaction,” and “Genocide” that you have online. Has there been no new music since 2010, as Metal Archives says? In late 2011, after more than a year of playing shows, I (Allen), had to step away due to some severe tendonitis. It was very painful to play and I needed to rest my arm and heal. Richard Chambliss, (Convergence), a great friend and guitarist, stepped in to help handle guitar duties along with long time ATF guitarist Robert Hansen. Around this time, original vocalist Shannon Higgason stepped away

from ATF, and Joel Fortenberry (ex: When Odin Falls) took over for a time. About 8 months later, ATF drummer Jason Northover also played in Spare Me Poseidon where he met bassist Adam Vosler. It was at this time that ATF went on hiatus completely. We started talking about firing it back up in 2014. We auditioned vocalists, and the slot was won by Erik Trajik (formerly of We Fight Like Lions). Our first show back was February of 2015 opening for Tony MacAlpine at Studio 7 in Seattle. It was non-stop shows for 18 months after that, opening for bands such as Trivium, Soilwork, Soulfly, Warbringer, Unearth, Wovenwar, and Chelsie Grin. We did record one new track in with our relaunch 2015. “Lambs Become Lions”. It still receives airplay on 99.9 KISW Seattle. Have you thought about your music now in 2017 in comparison with your songs from 2010, in terms of style? Where are your heads in 2017 in terms of the music that excites you in comparison with 2010? Robert and I are the original guitarists, but the music has matured a bit. All of us are better players now and the music has definitely gotten stronger material wise. Heavier for sure, but still sounds like ATF. Erik Trajik came aboard in 2014. Our focus remains the same. Our influences are the same as what they were when we started. Melody probably plays a larger role now, but if anything the music is heavier with more technicality. We look forward to recording it so all will be able to enjoy it! You have a substantial list of bands that you shared the stage with. Was this a particular period or have you been playing shows throughout the years? It's been throughout the years. We started off playing with nationals, (opening for

Nevermore was our first show in 2010), but some of the biggest shows we've played were in 2016. We live to play live. Is there anything else you’d like to mention? Only that we appreciate the opportunity to tell people what’s going on with us. Please come out and bang your head at an ATF show soon near you. Like us on Facebook and request us on Metal Shop on 99.9 KISW Seattle, (streamable anywhere) I’ve never seen ATF live. I’m hoping to rectify soon in June. Thanks for your time! You're very welcome! Thanks for approaching me! Looking forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming shows! Thanks! Allen (Attila) After The Fallout facebook.com/AfterTheFallout *** Hypnos The long-running and prestigious extreme metal act Hypnos (Czech Republic) at long last has made its return with a new effort called The Whitecrow on the respected label Einheit Produktionen (Germany). The Whitecrow follows the band's previous work from 2012 called Heretic Commando. The new title finds the band working with experience within the general realm of death metal while creating its unique form of music, and avoiding musical clichés. The album is a good balance of music that is not overly melodic, that is a bit dissonant, but also still very much recognizable as metal with a song-centered approach. Some passages are memorable, yet in other segments the band invites the listener to come back and inquire more within. If this band wanted, they could easily make formulaic songs of death metal brutality and speed, and they easily have the credentials to prove that they can and have done that in the past. There is plenty of speed

and heaviness on the new album. That's normal for Hypnos. However, attentive listeners will also find a band utilizing its years of experience to make an album of which they can be proud in terms of songs and creativity. Hypnos The Whitecrow release date: March 24th, 2017 label: Einheit Produktionen OFFICIAL: Death Metal commando HYPNOS was founded in the autumn of 1999 from the remnants of the famous Czech band KRABATHOR (est. 1984). The band became the country's leading Death Metal band after four albums and several EPs. HYPNOS have played more than 300 shows all over Europe, among them the WFF and the Brutal Assault also touring alongside BEHEMOTH, MORBID ANGEL, ENSLAVED, DYING FETUS and THE CROWN. “The Whitecrow“ was recorded by Børge FINSTAD (MAYHEM, IHSAHN, ARCTURUS) again. Christopher (Krabathor), Paul Speckmann (Master), V. Santura (Dark Fortress, Triptykon), Martin Missy (Protector) contributed to the album as guests. Musicologists & press are enthusiastic. The album will be available March 24th 2017 as a Digi-CD+DVD (incl. 3 video clips and a 70 minutes live show) limited to 1.000 copies as well as a standard jewel case CD with a great 28-page booklet, as vinyl & digital. Few press and musician´s quotes: “Be prepared for The Dark Side of HYPNOS - the one you have not got a chance to explore yet.“ (Ashok) Cradle Of Filth “The Whitecrow rises upon the grounds of classic metal but rumbles with an ominous presence of rage and fury that captured me.

The title track is truly a brilliant song that eventually will hunt you down. Check it out!” (Øystein Brun) Borknagar

“Hypnos rejuvenated their sound – the result sounds darker, more morbid and intense than ever before, still not losing any class, on the contrary. "The Whitecrow" is a strong record with a long shelf-life.” (Frank Albrecht) Deaf Forever OFFICIAL: Czech death metal band HYPNOS was founded in 1999 by former members of another death band KRABATHOR, BRUNO (bass/vocals) and PEGAS (drums). Having signed with German label Morbid Records in 2000, the self-titled MCD got released, followed by the debut full-length ‘In Blood We Trust’ the same year, featuring Mika Luttinen / IMPALED NAZARENE as a guest vocalist. The release was promoted during the NO MERCY FESTIVALS over Europe alongside MORBID ANGEL, DYING FETUS, BEHEMOTH, ENSLAVED and THE CROWN. In 2001, the 2nd album "The Revenge Ride", produced by Harris JOHNS (HELLOWEEN, SODOM, KREATOR, or VOIVOD), was released. HYPNOS participated in events including WITH FULL FORCE, SUMMER BREEZE, PARTY-SAN and HELL ON EARTH among others. The 3rd album "Rabble Manifesto" (2005), recorded again

with Harris JOHNS, got nominated for the Czech “Anděl” Award (a Grammy Award equivalent) under the Hard and Heavy category. In January 2006 HYPNOS toured with CENTINEX and PURGATORY. The EP "Halfway To Hell" was released in the 2010 and the band performed at the BRUTAL ASSAULT Fest (CZ) followed by three shows with NAPALM DEATH. Hypnos signed with the German label Einheit Produktionen, and the 4th album entitled "Heretic Commando / Rise Of The New Antikrist" saw the light in 2012. Recording duties were handled by the Norwegian sound engineer Børge FINSTAD, who worked with bands as MAYHEM, BORKNAGAR, ARCTURUS or ULVER. HYPNOS shot a video for the track ‘Inverted’, directed by Mejla BASEL, responsible for MACHINE HEAD ‘Darkness Within’ and the Czech “Oscar” Academy Award winner MARKETA IRGLOVA videos. In 2012, HYPNOS first toured with NAPALM DEATH and later with VADER. In spring of 2014 HYPNOS supported Swedish AMON AMARTH on their East European tour. Later that year Mystic Production published BRUNO´s life-story book entitled "Revoltikon" which got sold out all 666 pieces in three months. BRUNO and PEGAS also teamed up with CHRISTOPHER from KRABATHOR to perform a reunion gig at the BRUTAL ASSAULT FESTIVAL. The success of this show resulted in a short tour over Czech and Slovakia in March 2015. The complete set recorded at the sold-out show in the band´s hometown of Uherské Hradiště was released in 2015 via MYSTIC PROD as a three-disc CD/DVD entitled "Rebirth Of Brutality". During 2016 HYPNOS was occupied with recording their fifth full length album entitled "The Whitecrow" with Børge FINSTAD behind the desk again. The album, released 24.3.2017 by Einheit Produktionen, contains a few guest appearances as for example Christopher

(KRABATHOR), Martin Missy (PROTECTOR), Paul Speckmann (MASTER) or V. SANTURA (TRIPTYKON, DARK FORTRESS). Power Trip The Texas thrash young titans Power Trip haven't nearly had enough of the life on the road! There is a good explanation why Power Trip has impressed the metal audiences: quality thrash. Their 2017 album Nightmare Logic has impressed thrash supporters, including the jaded reviewers, even the hard-to-please people at Metal Archives have given the album good reviews, where the lowest score is about an 85. Take notice of Power Trip. Maybe they are coming to your town next, America. Listen to the complete album at the first link below. OFFICIAL: POWER TRIP will hit North America again this Fall with Exodus and Obituary, still touring in support of their latest album, Nightmare Logic. The band returns after a wild European run with Napalm Death and Brujeria and a sold-out US. tour. Highlights of the newly-announced tour include shows at New York City's Music Hall Of Williamsburg, Los Angeles' Teragram Ballroom, plus performances at Sacramento's Aftershock and Houston's Open Air festivals. See below for a full list of dates.

Nightmare Logic, POWER TRIP's most powerful effort yet, was released early this year to high critical acclaim and anticipation -- their sophomore release does not disappoint. With hooks and tightness comparable to greats like Metallica, Pantera, or Pentagram, POWER TRIP punishes fans not only sonically but with pure songwriting skill. Nightmare Logic proves to be one of the year's smartest and most crucial releases to spawn from the metal and punk scenes.
