Sewing Instructions for the StockingAll seams are sewn using 1/4" seam allowance with pieces held right sides together and raw edges even.

1. Choose one set of stocking pieces cut from the main fabric to be the lining. Right sidestogether, stitch the two pieces together leaving the entire top edge open and leaving a 3-4"long opening along the back edge for turning. Clip the curves. Leave the unit right sidestogether to complete the stocking lining.2. Using the method of your choice, appliqu red heel and toe motifs to each of the (2)remaining stocking pieces. Right sides together, stitch the two stocking pieces together,leaving the entire top edge open. Clip the curves and turn the unit right sides out tocomplete the main stocking unit.3. Fold the 6" x 11" red strip in half, right sides together. Stitch the short ends togetherto make a 6" wide loop. Turn the unit right sides out. Fold the unit in half lengthwise,raw edges even, to make a 3" double sided loop. Press to make a crisp edge.4. Place the main stocking unit inside the cuff with the right side of the stocking unitfacing out and all raw edges even. Pin or baste in place.5. Turn 1/2" to the wrong side along each long edge of the 2" x 4" red diamonds pieceand press. Press so that the raw edges meet in the middle on the wrong side of the redpiece. Fold the unit in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, to make a unit 1/2" wide x4" long. Press the unit. Stitch close to the edges along each long side of the hanging loop

with matching thread.

6. Fold the hanging loop in half crosswise, raw edges even. Pin the loop to the back edgeof the stocking unit from step 4, matching the raw edges of the loop with the raw edges ofthe cuff and stocking.7. Place the unit from step 6 inside the lining unit from step 1 so that the right sides ofthe stocking unit and the lining are facing each other. Pin the units together all the wayaround the upper edge, raw edges even. Stitch all the way around the upper edge, stitchingthrough all thicknesses using 1/4" seam allowance.8. Pull the unit through the hole left in the back side of the lining so the right sides of themain stocking and lining are both facing out. Slip stitch the opening closed. To completethe stocking, push the lining down into the main stocking unit.

Cutting Instructions for the Stocking

1. Make patterns for the stocking, heel, and toe. Please note that the stocking pattern is inthree sections which must be combined. The patterns are full size, are not reversed and donot include seam allowances.2. Fold the main stocking fabric, wrong sides together, matching selvage edges. From thefolded fabric, cut (2) sets of stocking pieces, one set for the outer stocking and one set forthe lining. Keep the cut pieces in pairs.

3. From the red diamonds fabric, cut (1) 6" x 42" strip. Recut this strip into (1) 6" x11" piece for the cuff and (1) 2" x 4" piece for the hanging loop.4. Fold the unused portion of the 6" red diamonds strip wrong sides together. From thisfolded strip, cut (1) set of stocking toe units and (1) set of stocking heel units.
