Dear Parents, Carers,
As the term is soon coming to an end, we are continuing our consultation on becoming an 11-18
school in September 2014.
1. Consulting Our Students:
We completed a student survey on 6th June 2013: 76.6% of our students in Year 10 will be considering
staying on in September 2014, and 77.5% of our current Year 9 students have expressed an interest in staying
on.
There are a number of subjects in which students have expressed an interest such as Art and Design/Biology/
Chemistry/Physics/English language/History/ICT/Mathematics/sports. At this stage we have not decided yet
which subjects will run. We have planned a Year 12 information evening in November 2013.
2. Consulting Our Parents:
We invited all parents from current Year 10 to attend an evening on 24th June 2013. 44 parents attended the
presentation where we explained the vision and plans. Parents were able to also ask questions (see previous
newsletter). We have shared our plan with our future Year 7 parents on Thursday 4th July. Parents were very
supportive of our move in their feedback.
3. Consulting with the Local Authority
Back to the day I was interviewed for the post of Headteacher, I have always said that the way forward for the
school would be to become an 11-18. I have discussed this with Steve Cottrell, area manager for the LA in my
various meetings with him. Steve Cottrell and Phillip Walker are scheduled to meet with me on 23rd July to
discuss our plans further. Further to this, I have spoken to Mark Hoban our MP and Sean Woodward the
Leader of Fareham Borough Council regarding the sixth form.
You will know that I am very keen to continue to look at best and next practice so my team and I have
travelled over 1000 miles recently in the UK , starting the day at 4.30am at times to visit outstanding schools
with outstanding Sixth Forms. We want to construct the best and unique model for Fareham Academy. We are
intending to consult further with our students’ leadership team in September so that they can contribute to
the model.
I will submit a business case to the EFA early in September and the Secretary of State will consider the
proposal. The purpose of becoming an academy is to make the most of our autonomy. We are confident that
we are on the right flight path.

Governor News
On Thursday of this week the Governing Body met for the final time under the auspice of Neville Lovett
Community School. It was an emotional time for some of our governors who are stepping down from the
board after many years of service to the school. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the
amazing dedication, passion and commitment that they have shown. I do know that this school and its
community will always have a very special place in their hearts and that they will follow our progress closely.
We look forward to meeting up with them again at the opening of the new academy in the autumn term.
The details of the members of the new Fareham Academy Governing Body will be shared with you in
September when we start on this next phase of the journey to becoming an outstanding school that will
include a sixth form provision from September 2014.

Year 7 Celebrations
Year 7 have celebrated the end of this academic year with a certificate assembly, which was hosted by the
Progress Leader for Year 7, Mrs Hoggarth. Three certificates linked to the 3 R’s were awarded by each tutor
and Mrs Hoggarth. These were awarded to students who have consistently shown Respect, Responsibility and
Resilience over the school year. Mrs Hoggarth also awarded six certificates to students for their commitment
to the Governors’ reading programme. Fifteen students received certificates for achieving 100% attendance, a
massive achievement and real commitment to their learning. Eighteen students received awards for
outstanding attitude to learning, attaining eight or more outstanding grades on their subject review. Sam
Niker deserves a special mention for achieving 11/11 outstanding grades this academic year. Finally 7A won
the battle of the tutors for attendance achieving 96.12%. The assembly finished with the students giving
themselves and their tutors a huge round of applause for their hard work over the last year.
Well done do you all!

we endeavour to provide an environment where all students feel valued and welcome. For a child to reach
their full education achievement, a high level of school attendance is essential. We will consistently work
towards a goal of 100% attendance for all students.

Parent Pay
Parent Pay is an online parent payment system for schools which will enable you to pay securely by credit or debit card for your child's trips, prom, leavers hoodies etc. Please note that school lunches will not be included in this payment method. Each parent will have their own secure account, however if you have more than one child at the school, you can link the accounts together so you only have one account. Not only will this make payments more manageable for you, but will also aid the staff at school. Letters will be sent out in the first few of weeks of September which will contain login details and additional information regarding parent pay. We will also be including a school shop on the system which will allow you to purchase any extra items of uniform should you need to order anything.
If you have any queries regarding parent pay, please do not hesitate to contact our Finance Officer, Louise Walker on 01329 318003.
