TAMING THE TIGERSDayton defeated Princeton at Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, N.J. on Nov. 19, handing the Tigers just their third loss at home over the past three seasons.

FACING THE BESTThe Flyers played defending national champions and second-ranked Connecticut on Nov. 22 in Storrs, Conn. and suffered a loss to the Huskies, who won their 79th straight game. UD will play six teams this season that competed in the NCAA Tournament last year, all on the road or at neutral sites. The Flyers have faced the 30th toughest strength of schedule in Division I this season.

70’S THE MAGIC NUMBERSince the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 124-14 (.903) when scoring 70 or more points, including 10-2 in 2015-16. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2009-10 when reaching that mark.2016-17 ............ 3-12015-16 .......... 10-22014-15 .......... 24-22013-14 .......... 19-42012-13 .......... 21-12011-12 .......... 13-12010-11 .......... 15-12009-10 .......... 19-2TOTAL ......... 124-14

THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCEDayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 486 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.

SPEAKING OF THREES...The Flyers hit 12 three-pointers against Texas A&M on Dec. 20 in Winter Park, Fla. en route to a 74-57 victory over the Aggies. That total was the most ever given up by Texas A&M in program history. The previous high of 11 was held by Kansas State and TCU.

University of Dayton Vice President and Director of Athletics Neil Sullivan announced that Shauna Green will be the Flyers’ head women’s basketball coach on Sept. 11, 2016.

“I am excited to introduce Shauna Green as the head women’s basketball coach at the University of Dayton,” Sullivan said. “Shauna has been an important part of our women’s basketball success since 2012 and she is well-positioned to continue the program’s strong momentum. She believes in our values and has a deep commitment to the women on our team. She has coached many players on the roster, and is the right person to lead our women’s basketball program.”

In her previous stint at Dayton from 2012-2015, Green contributed to the success of the Flyers and made an impact on the current state of the program. In 2012-13, Dayton won 28 games, tying the most wins in the modern era of the program. The Flyers followed that up in Green’s final season, 2014-15, with another 28 wins, a sixth-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, and the program’s first Regional Final. Two student-athletes from that team were drafted in the 2015 WNBA Draft – Ally Malott to the Washington Mystics and Andrea Hoover to the Los Angeles Sparks. Hoover ranks fourth all-time on Dayton’s scoring list while Malott ranks seventh.

“I am delighted to welcome Shauna back to the University,” said President Eric Spina. “After meeting with Shauna, it is clear to me that she truly cares about helping student-athletes succeed in all aspects of their UD experience – both in the classroom and on the court. She has tremendous affinity for our University and is superbly prepared to lead this important program; she will absolutely continue our tradition of excellence in women’s basketball.”

Green, who has previous head coaching experience at Loras College, returns to Dayton after spending last season at Northwestern as an assistant on Coach Joe McKeown’s staff. With the Wildcats, Green helped guide the 2015-16 squad to the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals where the Wildcats fell to eventual conference champion Maryland. NU went on to earn a berth in the WNIT before falling to San Diego to end the season.

In just one year at Northwestern, Green helped numerous student-athletes earn athletic and academic accolades. Junior guard Nia Coffey earned WBCA All-America and All-Region honors while eight Wildcats were named Academic All-Big Ten. Junior guard Ashley Deary was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and All-Defensive Team as well.

“I am absolutely thrilled to return as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of Dayton, a place that is very special to my family and me,” said Shauna Green. “We could not be more excited for the opportunity to return to this outstanding University and the Dayton community. I am very grateful towards Dr. Spina and Neil for their confidence in me to continue to build on the tradition that Coach Jabir established at the University of Dayton.”

Green also has a previous coaching stint at Providence College. With the Friars, she served as recruiting coordinator which carried over to the same role at Dayton. Green was responsible for recruiting many of the current players on the Flyer team.

Green signed a multi-year contract.

A 2002 graduate of Canisius, Green received a degree in business marketing. She went on to earn a master’s degree in physical education with an emphasis in athletic administration from Loras. Green and her husband, Andy, have one son, Matteo.
