13TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

Today’s Gospel reports two stories of healing. One story tells us about a father’s great love for his dying daughter, and the other of a desperate woman who risks much as she seeks healing from Jesus. Each request for healing is a courageous act of faith. The contrasts between Jairus and the woman with the hemorrhage are obvious. One is a man, the other is a woman. One, a public official, an important person in the community; the other, a woman who has lost everything to find a cure to a condition that separated her from the community. One approaches Jesus publicly; the other, secretly. But in each case, faith leads them to seek out Jesus in their time of need. Although very different, these two stories are essentially the same: two people who are transformed from death to life when they come in contact with Jesus. Do we trust that Jesus is with us and is gracing us with what we truly need? Today let us pray for one another that we will truly trust Jesus in all the circumstances of our lives (or at least try to)!

13° DOMINGO DE TIEMPO ORDINARIO

El Evangelio de hoy reporta dos historias de sanación. Una historia nos habla del gran amor de un padre por su hija moribunda, y la otra de una mujer desesperada que arriesga mucho mientras busca la curación de Jesús. Cada petición de sanación es un acto valiente de fe. Los contrastes entre Jairo y la mujer con la hemorragia son obvios. Uno es un hombre, la otra es una mujer. Uno, un funcionario público, importante en la comunidad; la otra, una mujer que lo ha perdido todo para encontrar una cura ante una condición que la separó de la comunidad. When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around him, and he stayed close to the sea. One of the synagogue officials, named Jairus, came forward. Seeing him he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, saying, “My daughter is at the point of death. Please, come lay your hands on her that she may get well and live.” He went off with him, and a large crowd

followed him and pressed upon him.

There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years. She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors and had spent all that she had. Yet she was not helped but only grew worse. She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak. She said, “If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured.” Immediately her flow of blood dried up. She felt in her body that she was

healed of her affliction.

Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who has touched my clothes?” But his disciples said to Jesus, “You see how the crowd is pressing upon you, and yet you ask, ‘Who touched me?’” And he looked around to see who had done it. The woman, realizing what had happened to her, approached in fear and trembling. She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction.” While he was still speaking, people from the synagogue official’s house arrived and said, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the teacher any longer?” Disregarding the message that was reported, Jesus said to the synagogue official, “Do not be afraid; just have faith.” He did not allow anyone to accompany him inside except Peter, James,

and John, the brother of James.

When they arrived at the house of the synagogue official, he caught sight of a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. So he went in and said to them, “Why this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.” And they ridiculed him. Then he put them all out. He took along the child’s father and mother and those who were with him and entered the room where the child was. He took the child by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum,”

Entre la gente había una mujer que padecía flujo de sangre desde hacía doce años. Oyó hablar de Jesús, vino y se le acercó por detrás entre la gente y le tocó el manto, pensando que, con sólo tocarle el vestido, se curaría. Inmediatamente se le secó la fuente de su hemorragia y

sintió en su cuerpo que estaba curada.

Jesús notó al instante que una fuerza curativa había salido de él, se volvió hacia la gente y les preguntó: “¿Quién ha tocado mi manto?” Sus discípulos le contestaron: “Estás viendo cómo te empuja la gente y todavía preguntas: ‘¿Quién me ha tocado?’ ” Pero él seguía mirando alrededor, para descubrir quién había sido. Entonces se acercó la mujer, asustada y temblorosa, al comprender lo que

había pasado; se postró a sus pies y le confesó la verdad. Jesús la tranquilizó, diciendo: “Hija, tu fe te ha curado. Vete en paz y queda sana de tu enfermedad”. Todavía estaba hablando Jesús, cuando unos criados llegaron de casa del jefe de la sinagoga para decirle a éste: “Ya se murió tu hija. ¿Para qué sigues molestando al Maestro?” Jesús alcanzó a oír lo que hablaban y le dijo al jefe de la sinagoga: “No temas, basta que tengas fe”. No permitió que lo acompañaran más que Pedro, Santiago y Juan, el

hermano de Santiago.

Al llegar a la casa del jefe de la sinagoga, vio Jesús el alboroto de la gente y oyó los llantos y los alaridos que daban. Entró y les dijo: “¿Qué significa tanto llanto y alboroto? La niña no está muerta, está

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. TOTUS TUUS 2021 Totus Tuus was a HUGE SUCCESS! The day program was full at 75 students and there were approximately 40 7-12 graders that attended the evening program! Thank you to all who housed & fed the missionaries, who came to the potluck, who brought their children, who volunteered for the day and/or evening programs! We pray the seeds that were sown will bear much fruit in the lives of the young people and in our parish community. TOTUS TUUS 2021 ¡Totus Tuus fue un GRAN ÉXITO! El programa diurno estuvo completo con 75 estudiantes y aproximadamente 40 estudiantes de 7-12 grados que asistieron al programa nocturno! ¡Gracias a todos los que albergaron y alimentaron a los misioneros, que vinieron a la comida compartida, que trajeron a sus hijos, que se ofrecieron como voluntarios para los programas diurnos y nocturnos! Oramos para que las semillas sembradas den mucho fruto en la vida de los jóvenes y en nuestra comunidad parroquial.

LA MISA DE UNCIÓN DE LOS ENFERMOS La misa de unción de los enfermos será el fin de semana del 26 y 27 de junio. Leemos en el evangelio sobre la curación de la hija de Jairo. Acompáñanos en este precioso Sacramento.

Aquellos que pueden celebrar el Sacramento de la Unción incluyen los siguientes:

a) cualquiera que esté anticipando una cirugía en un futuro próximo, b) los que padecen una enfermedad crónica, c) y cualquier persona de edad en general, pero no particularmente enferma.

Si usted o alguien que conoce quisiera recibir el Sacramento de la Confirmación, este programa puede ser suficiente para esa preparación. Las clases comienzan el martes 29 de junio a las 6:45 PM en español (trae su biblia y catecismo si los tiene). Nos reuniremos en el comedor de St. Henry.
