“Level 3 Good Sports Accredited Club”
The Annual General
Meeting for MUDTA
was held on Wednes-
day evening 27 Sep-
tember.
It was disappointing
that only a handful of members attended to
consider the excellent results the Committee
have achieved over the past 12 months, In his
report President Keith thanked all members
of the Committee for their dedication and
professionalism in their respective roles and
who work tirelessly on behalf of all members.
He thanked Pam Germyn (Treasurer) and
Andrew Edgar (JDO), who would not be
seeking re-election, for their substantial input.
He also acknowledged the work of Coach
Kevin Murphy who regularly goes above and
beyond his contract to add to the success of
our club.
He acknowledged the work of all our volun-
teers who run our social and competition
tennis and all those who contribute to the
running of the canteen; also the contributions
to our success through the relationship with
our sponsors.
The need for further infrastructure upgrades
was recognized. These items are of a high
price range and thus require the attainment of a substantial grant. We are currently going
through this process and are expecting notifi-
cation to our submission within the next
three months.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
In conclusion Keith said that our Club is in a
fantastic position. We are in a situation of
positivity and expects we will be able to
attain continued growth of this great game
for both our members and visitors alike. To
quote the Committee of the South Coast
Region “Ulladulla Tennis Centre is the jewel
of South Coast tennis”.
Be proud of our club and let us all offer self-
congratulations. We as a group of individuals
have constantly come together in our love
of the game to all contribute as a team to
our success.

VETS TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
NORFOLK ISLAND 2018
We would like to remind players that the use of
the clubhouse facilities comes with a few obliga-
tions.
Before leaving after your play could you please
ensure that the floor has been swept, all cups and cutlery washed
and put away, benches wiped over and the garbage bins emptied
and replaced with the black liner bags which can be found in the
drawers under the shelf below the pie oven. The rubbish should
then be placed in the council bins at the driveway end of the deck.
The clubhouse is not cleaned every day and it would be appreciat-
ed by the players using it after you if they could arrive to clean
facilities. Thanks.
YOUR CO-OPERATION PLEASE
Our annual SPO tournament is fast approaching and we are again
asking for help in setting up the complex for the players as well as
volunteers for the canteen, either with your time or donation of

This month we are
Highlighting
Vice President and
volunteer
extraordinaire
Maureen Mennie (nee
Baxter)
Maureen (Mozz) Mennie was born on 12 February 1965 at Milton
Hospital. As a Milton Show baby she received her very first trophy
- a christening cup - having been the baby born closest to the An-
nual Milton Show Day. At the time, her parents were living on a
dairy farm at Yatte Yatta where her father farmed with the Duffy
Brothers and at the same time was involved with the log cutting
industry.
By the time Maureen reached school age she was living at Termeil
at her father’s sawmill property and she attended Ulladulla Primary
School. She was an average student and took up playing Junior
tennis at Milton when she was in Year 6. In 1977, she remembers
reaching the comp finals with Rob Gilkes, and against Darren An-
derson and Allan Gilkes both of whom have done so much for the
club in their older years. When in high school she played Night
competition with her Dad at the courts located where the Bowling
Club now stands and remembers having to go into the club to get
the men out to come and play tennis.
She completed her education to Year 10 at Ulladulla High School in
1981 and was a Princess in the Blessing of the Fleet Festival being
sponsored by the Ulladulla Tennis Club. Throughout her high
school years, she played Polocross. Competing most weekends at
carnivals at Moruya, Canberra, Goulburn, Bungendore, Braidwood,
Burradoo and Nowra. This is where her love of camping started,
sitting around the camp fire made for fantastic times. Her most
outstanding achievements were to play Polocross at State and Na-
tional Championships in the junior section. Maureen also played
Basketball, which is a remarkable achievement considering how
“tall” Maureen is.
In 1982, she attended Milton TAFE doing a secretarial course. The
TAFE was in a room at Milton Public School. Graduating from
TAFE she gained employment at P H Woods & Son Transport –
located opposite the now EX-Servos Club - where she remained
for two years. It was here that she met her husband Steve who
was a Milton boy who had returned from working in Sydney. They
were married on 21 January 1984 and moved to Campbelltown in
Sydney to manage a family business involving fencing and hard-
wood, selling the hardwood timber from Maureen’s father’s
sawmill at Termeil.
Their son, Ross, was born in May 1986, followed by daughters
Melissa in 1989, Jessica in 1991 and Rachel in 1993. In 1988
Maureen and Steve returned to Termeil and lived in the old school
house where Maureen’s grandmother Baxter, her father and Ste-
ve’s mother had all attended school there. The school house prop-
erty is currently in the possession of Maureen’s parents.
Back at Termeil, Steve worked for J & J Concrete driving a tipper truck for Johnny Cole bringing metal and sand to the concrete
supplier. He become an interstate truck driver and wasn’t home
much with the kids. In 1989, they moved out of the school house
with two kids in tow to the home they built at Tabourie and where
two more children arrived.
Maureen returned to the workforce doing night shelf fills at Ul-
ladulla Tuckerbag, later to become IGA. Maureen currently works
at the Burrill Lake Cellars where she has been employed for about
10 years.
GETTING TO KNOW YOUR CLUB MEMBERS
Fifty two years on Maureen
proudly displays her “Show Baby Cup”
Maureen’s volunteering experience began in these early days when she
was President of the Ladies Auxiliary and President of the P & C Asso-
ciation at Ulladulla Primary School. She served her time in the canteen
and on kids Sports Committees including Little Athletics. She gave up
tennis to concentrate on being a stay-at-home mum involved with the
many activities of her children.
Maureen returned to tennis when her youngest child, Rachel, started
pre-school in 1997. She commenced playing in Division 2 in the Ladies
Competition and competed in many comps until today when she plays
as a No. 1 player in Division 1. She has competed in Club Champion-
ships and partnering Shelley Heycox won the Open Ladies Doubles in
2009 and 2011.
Committee positions held by Maureen include co-running the Junior
competitions from 2003 to 2008 with Vicki Sydenham and Kerrie
Solomon where they introduced dress up days making the competi-
tions lots of fun. Many social activities were held to raise funds for the
juniors. Maureen’s three daughters all played junior competition.
Positions on the Senior Committee include General Committee per-
son; Publicity Officer and her current position as Vice President held
since 2013. She also assisted in organising the Opening Ceremony for
the club’s 4 court extension and the 60th Anniversary celebrations.
Every week you will find Maureen at the courts cleaning the clubhouse
and amenities block. She does this on a voluntary basis saving the club
thousands of dollars every year.
Maureen’s motto: “Our club exists through the volunteers”. She
enjoys what she does and has gained so much from the experience.

MUDTA had three players progress to these finals. Natasha Phillips-Edgar
and Riley White fought hard to the end but were both defeated in a match
tie breaker in their finals and William Hatcher-Nee unfortunately was una-
vailable to play his match.
The three players have, due to their excellent performances, now qualified
