The existing drinking water treatment infrastructure is not adcquatt to complywith WHO gu idelines. The Arsenic concentrations in South Punjab and in someparts of Sindh have been found high then Revised WHO u i l i n e It will takesom e time to control arsenic through treatment process. Lead concelltration in theproposed standards is higher than WHO Guidelines. As the piping system for supplyofdrinking w ter in urban centres are generally old and w ill take significant resourcesand time to get them replaced. In the recent past, Lead was completely phased outfrom petroleum products to cut down Lead entering intoenvironment. These stepswill enable to achieve WHO guidelines for Arsenic, Lead, Cadmium and Zinc.However, for bottled water, W I ~ O limits for Arsenic, Lead, Cadmium and Zi nc willbe applicable and PSQCA Standards for all the rema in ing paramelers.
