SAINT JOACHIM AND SAINT ANNE
This is the “feast of grandparents.” It reminds grandparents of their responsibility to establish a tone for
generations to come: They must make the traditions live and offer them as a promise to little children. But
the feast has a message for the younger generation as well. It reminds the young that older people’s
greater perspective, depth of experience, and appreciation of life’s profound rhythms are all part of a
wisdom not to be taken lightly or ignored. www.franciscanmedia.org

Novena-Praying with Mary MacKillop—For John Pearce (Julie Palmer’s Uncle)
Please pray for nine consecutive days
Ever generous God, You inspired Mary MacKillop to live her life faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ
and to be constant in bringing hope and encouragement to those who were disheartened, lonely or needy. With confidence in Your generous providence and joining with Saint Mary MacKillop we ask that You
grant our request for healing for John Pearce who is suffering from pancreatic cancer . We ask that our faith and hope be fired afresh by the Holy Spirit so that we too, like Mary MacKillop,
may live with courage, trust and openness. Ever generous God hear our prayer. We ask this through Jesus Christ. Amen

SOUP SUNDAY – TODAY after 9am MASS
ST JOACHIM AND ST ANNE
July 26th is the feast day of St
Joachim and St Anne, the parents of
Mary and grandparents of Jesus. All
grandparents want what is best for
their grandchildren, and for catholic
grandparents, this often includes
passing on the faith and keeping
prayer in the heart of family life.
The vital contribution of grandparents
to the family, the Church and society
has possibly never been as important
as now, in a society with constantly
changing social and moral values. For many grandparents,
they may be the only witness to faith that the young see.
Our parish will celebrate the unique vocation of
grandparents on Sunday 28th
July and invite
grandparents to write the names of their grandchildren on
paper provided in the foyer prior to Mass. These will then be
taken to the altar as part of the offertory procession.

NEW GUIDELINES FOR THE CHURCHES RESPONSE TO ABUSE
The Church is developing new national policy guidelines to strengthen and standardise Church authorities’ responses to historical and contemporary concerns and allegations of abuse of children and vulnerable adults.
Arch Bishop Mark Coleridge, president of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, said the development of the guidelines is a critical step forward in the Church’s ongoing response to the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
POLICE CLEARANCES
If you are over 80 and a volunteer you will need to have a
screening, this has changed from not having to complete a
clearance, beginning from July 1st this year.
Clearances are now extended from 3 years to 5 years.
Please don’t hesitate to speak to Monica Woods or Gayle if you
need or if we can help in any way.
PLENARY COUNCIL 2020: National Theme for Discernment #5
How is God calling us to be a Christ-centred Church that is A Joyful, Hope-
Filled and Servant Community?
This National Theme for Discernment is inspired by the voices of the People
of God who expressed a yearning for the Church to be a sign of God’s
kingdom for all people in Australia – to be able to see the Catholic Church in
action, and to recognise Jesus.
