MEN’S BREAKFAST

When Jesus died, he dealt with all the
problems that sin caused us. In one
miraculous death defying act he ab-
sorbed the wrath of God against sin,
took away our guilt, reconciled us to
God and purchased us with his blood.
In all of this, the greatest treasure is
not that “Hallelujah! We’re not going
to hell!” or, “Phew! God is not angry
with me!” The greatest joy comes not
from knowing that God has restrained
his anger, but that he has unleashed
his grace and love in our lives! In short,
he’s given us himself. And that is our
greatest prize isn’t it?!
Jesus' death on the cross sets the
scene for us to enter into his presence
and see him face to face and not be
consumed! God has always wanted us
to see him face to face (1 Corinthians
13:10-12), to have access to his pres-
ence in exactly the same way that Je-
sus did! When we come before God –
we experience grace – that is our real-
ity now. The word for grace is ‘charis’.
This word is also translated as ‘favour’
or more specifically ‘unmerited fa-
vour’. Getting the very thing that you
don’t deserve. This is where we get the
phrase “getting in someone’s good
graces”. Getting special access to
them, receiving something from them
– it’s a gift. Jennie Buss
Bill Johnson describes being filled with
God's glory and favour in in this way –
Isaiah 6:1 'And the train of his robe
filled the temple' . The picture of God’s
train filling the temple is a picture of
God’s presence – his glory and favour –
filling our lives. But the word used for
‘filling’ implies a continuous happen-
ing, God’s presence and favour has
come to dwell and reign in your life,
and God’s nature is for that to always
be growing and increasing and filling
you more and more and more!
God's favour gives you access into the
very presence of God, positions you to
receive unlimited blessings from him
and pour him out of your life into the
lives of others! The question remains:
What are we doing with this favour?
Are we simply living comfortable,
peaceful lives knowing that we have a
ticket to heaven? Or are we relishing
the privilege of being the friends of
God and bringing heaven into the lives
of people now?
What are you doing with the favour of
God your life?
“God has always
wanted us to see him
face to face.”
The Favour of God
