The ultimate networking event for CSEE’s energy traders
Post-Event Report
ETCSEE is an excellent event for networking. We made very good contacts with existing and new clients, deepened our relationships and built up new relationships. It is the best place to be in Central and Eastern Europe.”

New markets, new regions, new opportunities!
Dear colleague, This year 400 high-level energy trading professionals came to the beautiful city of Prague for ETCSEE 2017. Fifty-five senior speakers discussed the latest developments in the energy markets and the energy mix in Central and South Eastern Europe in the most extensive conference programme ever at ETCSEE. New markets, new regions, new opportunitiesIn the conference programme, we explored new markets, focused on upcoming regions and debated new opportunities. Besides market updates, ETCSEE also provided insight into the newest technologies that revolutionise trading. But ETCSEE is not only about the conference itself. Equally important are the numerous networking moments, which included a networking reception and the infamous Traders’ Party that was held this year at Prague’s most popular club, Duplex. We are confident that everyone has picked the fruits of the many new business opportunities that presented themselves, and we would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the event. The road toward trading a changing energy mix and a new European market design is just beginning. We look forward to continuing the discussions next year at THE go-to event on energy trading for the CEE and SEE region. Kind Regards,

ETCSEE is one of our main events of the year and our key event in Central and Eastern Europe, and it is an unmissable one.”
Peter Styles, Board Member, EFET
I think the event is very good, the only one I am actually attending. This is still THE best event in the region and I encourage you to continue.”

In his opening address, European Commission’s Florian Ermacora stressed that what we see in times of security of supply problems is that the EU members with the most problems are those that do not have a developed electricity market. According to Ermacora, this could be clearly seen in South East Europe during a cold spell this winter when countries such as Bulgaria had major problems. The Energy Community also participated actively in the discussions. There are still some legal gaps in place that prevent the optimal use of electricity cross-border infrastructure between the Energy Community countries and EU members, said Jasmina Trhulj, Head of the Electricity Unit at the Energy Community. The debates at ETCSEE focused this year on the Balkans in the Power track and Ukraine and Turkey in the Gas tracks. A few of the highlights of the conference included the energy price drivers session. This session with a.o. research forecasts showed an upward trend in coal-fired power generation and where the audience asked for an encore of speaker Jozsef Turai, who brought humour to the conference, explaining ‘paranormal activity’ in energy trading. Another highlight was the introduction of IT-related topics like algorithmic trading and blockchain, especially the well-attended live trade over the Blockchain where French Total sold Spanish Iberdrola 1 MW of electricity at a price of 33.3 EUR/MWh.
