What is Sexagesima ?

"Sexagesima" means "sixty" in Latin and Sexagesima Sunday comes approximately sixty days before Easter. This time period might be seen as a “countdown to Lent” and is a good op-portunity to prepare.

One idea: add “Stations of the Cross” to your calendar for Fridays. St. Agnes always has Stations after the 5:10pm Mass on Fridays during Lent. Stations are lead by a priest and booklets featur-ing St. Alphonsus Liguori’s classic pray-ers are provided. Want your own book-let? No problem. Pick up a copy in the

bookstore for $2.50. This booklet would make a thoughtful gift to someone who is homebound or unable to get to a church for Stations of the Cross on Fridays.

Another idea: clean up your Rosary. Lent is a great time to make a fresh start at praying the Rosary. Make a commitment and stick with it, even if it is only once a week. A daily decade of the Rosary is another great option. Does your Rosary need a little TLC? Tarnish remover works in a matter of seconds. Otherwise, wipe it down with a damp cloth, using a mild cleaner if necessary. Take good care of your Rosary, which is a sacramental and should be blessed. A Rosary can give spiritual and temporal blessings! Treat it well! It shouldn’t be sitting in the dust at the bottom of your bag or in the back of your desk draw-er, among the debris. Pick up a Rosary pouch at our bookstore (in a pinch, a Ziploc bag will do) or get a little dish for your Rosary on your bedside table. These are very inexpensive options that will keep your valued items clean. If your Rosary is not blessed, just ask a priest. They’ll be happy to help out.

The Church of St. Agnes will offer three Masses on Monday, February 17th, which is President’s Day. Masses will be at 8:10am,

12:10pm, and 1:10pm. The church will close after the 1:10pm Mass. There will be no confessions that day. The Rectory Office will also be closed and we will resume our regular schedule the following day.

2nd Collection… This weekend we will have a second collection to benefit Peter’s Pence. The purpose of the Peter's Pence Collection is to provide the Holy Father with the financial means to respond to those who are suffering as a result of war, oppression, natural disaster, and disease. Please be generous in your support.

“Everything that doesn’t lead you to God is an obstacle. Tear it out and cast it far from you.” - St. Josemaria Escriva

St. Agnes works with Zelle for online church contributions

For the past few years, St. Agnes has worked with WeShare for online contributions. A new option is Zelle, which many parishioners might be familiar with. Zelle is accepted by major banks and is known for their easy platform for paying and receiving money. Simply go to Zellepay.com to get started. The email associated with Zelle for church contributions is: [email protected]

FAQs from Zellepay.com:

What is Zelle? Zelle is an easy way to send money directly between almost any U.S. bank accounts typically within minutes. With just an email address or mobile phone number, you can quickly, safely and easily send and receive money with more people, regardless of where they bank. Are there any fees to send money using Zelle? Zelle doesn’t charge a fee to send or receive money. We recommend con-firming with your bank or credit union that there are no additional fees. Is my information secure? The Zelle app uses authentication and monitoring features to make your payments more se-cure. So whether you’re using the Zelle app or using Zelle through your bank or credit union’s mobile app or online bank-ing, you’ll have peace of mind.

Can I access Zelle® to send or receive money without a smartphone? If your bank or credit union offers Zelle, you may be able to use their online banking site to send and receive money without a mobile device. If your bank or credit union does not offer Zelle, then you must have a smartphone in order to access the Zelle app to send and receive money. St. Agnes note: Banks that offer Zelle include Wells Fargo, US Bank, Citibank, Chase, CapitalOne, and Bank of America. An entire page of included banks can be found at www.zellepay.com/get-started.

A Message From Cardinal Dolan… As we embark on this new decade, together in faith, I in-vite us to remember the mission to which we are all called. It is the task of every generation to take the faith that we’ve received and share it with others. This is what the Lord calls us to do: to teach, to serve, and to sanctify the world, by proclaiming the truth and making disciples of all na-tions. This work is most effectively accomplished through the ministry of the Church – in our parishes, our schools, our religious orders, our seminaries, and the many charita-ble services that are designed to respond to the evolving needs of our communities. This is the work that the Cardi-nal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal makes possible through your generous donations. The works that are represented in the Cardinal’s Appeal make tangible the mission of the Church in our communi-ties at a time when – some might say – the world is most in need of such a witness. The Cardinal’s Appeal is our faith at work in the world, attesting to who we are and the values we represent. I am grateful to you because I know that your gift not only changes lives, but it opens hearts to the person of Jesus Christ, as only acts of service performed in His holy name can. I thank you for your continued support of the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal.

The Cardinal’s Appeal is underway here at St. Agnes. Pledge envelopes can be found in the back of the church. Mail your envelope to the Appeal office, place it in the collection basket at Mass, or bring it by the rectory office. Donations can also be made online at cardinalsappeal.org. Thank you for your support!

Did you know? Ladies who are pregnant or trying to conceive are welcome to ask for a blessing from any of our priests. Our faith teaches us that God likes to work through a priest’s blessing, as demonstrated by Christ, Himself. Don’t be shy—just ask!
