Grange Academy Performance at Head Teachers’ Conference 14th June 2019 A group of 9 Grange Academy students have been creating their own music and practising over many weeks with Ben and Chris who have been visiting Grange for several weeks to support our students with their performance. The students have been making their own rhythms on ipads and instruments. This has been leading to a performance at Sharnbrook Hotel on Thursday 6th June at a Head Teachers’ Conference. Our own Miss Assink was there for the performance and commented afterwards, ‘That was brilliant it left me very emotional.’ Miss Leach has been supporting the group throughout the weeks and commented, ‘I was extremely proud of what they have achieved. They were absolutely fabulous.’ We will give you a further update after their performance at the Bedford Corn Exchange on Thursday 13th June. Jessica: I felt very nervous when playing in front of all the head teachers. When it was over I felt better. Skye: I felt scared, my heart was pounding but I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to doing it again at the Bedford Corn Exchange. Kelsey: My nerves were bad at the start, but as I started playing my nerves went and I felt happy and proud. I saw my old head teacher. Ben: I was really excited and buzzing to do my performance. When I was a the front doing my rapping my mouth went dry. TJ: I felt nervous before we performed at Sharnbrook Hotel. My heart felt like a drum. I felt more relaxed once we started. Rio: I was shy at the beginning. Once I started to play I was fine and I enjoyed it. Patryk: I enjoyed playing good music, playing the drums. I am very happy. Chloe: I was not nervous or scared. I wanted to start playing to see what people thought. Howard Class have been working towards the reward of an Olympic games session. Ewan: We used the crossbow. I did my best to shoot the bunnies on the water bottles. They were so cool because the cross bows came in different colours. Halfway through, the pink one broke, but then it got fixed. Nathan: The shooting part was really hard because every time we tried to get it on the target, we kept missing it! The arrows went missing and we had to find them. Kade: We have done a cross bow, we used them to shoot bunnies. Me and my friend Armaan hit the bunnies but not everyone was able to hit the bunnies. It was fun to do it! You should try it! Daniela: We learning about the bunny hunters, but it made me scared! Bunny speak to me! Armaan: We threw the javelin and I threw the javelin further than Nathan who held the record! Harry: We had to run to the hoop and get the balls and get them back. We won by getting all the balls before the other team did. Allen: It was so tricky to shoot the bunny! I had to use one arrow at a time to aim for the bunny…but I missed it! Howard Class News Maple class have been learning their number bonds. We used a variety of different manipulatives to find numbers that add to 10, 20 and 100. Some of us found addition and subtraction facts. Alexis: I found number bonds to 20 a bit hard. I used Numicon to help me. Ibrahim: I made 10 using Numicon. 9 and 1 makes 10. Steven: I put spots on the ladybird to make 10. Kailey: I liked learning number bonds to 20 but it was very tricky. Jasmine: I am learning number bonds up to 20. I tried very hard to learn them. I am very proud of myself. Allan: I did number bonds to 100. I worked in multiples of 10 and with other numbers. It was easyish! Oskar: It was fun doing number bonds up to 20. I used Numicon to help me. Callum: I liked learning about number bonds. I did a ladybird picture with number bonds. Kieran: I can add two numbers to make 100 and subtract from 100. Ashantey: I am good at number bonds. If you ask me a number bond I will get it right. Maple Class News

This week S1A celebrated the end of exams with a meal out at the Pilgrim’s Progress in Bedford. Jamie: we all walked there, we were following the path by the river. We saw ducks, swans and cygnets and some rowers. Tanvir: I learned that when I finished my meal I put the knife and fork together in a straight line instead of across my plate to show the waiter I have finished with the meal. K’Leeer: I tried a new dessert. It

was a chocolate brownie and it was nice, especially with the ice cream! Robert: This was the first time I took my time eating a meal! I didn’t finish first! Tiffany: We looked at the menu first. I chose sausages, chips and beans. Tyla: I went to the bar with Mrs Coles and ordered my own drink. George and I had the ‘Ultimate’ burger and then we had the same dessert: chocolate fudge cake. We waited until everyone was served before eating, it was really hard! Ms Charnock: I thought everyone was very well behaved, it was a lot of fun and it was a lovely way to celebrate the end of the exams.

S1B had a great time on Tuesday preparing food for a picnic in the park towards a qualification in Food Technology. Unfortunately, the weather was against us but we had a great time making sandwiches and drinks, and displaying snacks. Our picnic was still held but in the school hall. All in all, a good time was had by the class. Jazmin: I liked sharing the snacks with my friends. It was nice being with my group and chatting. Brooke: I liked the picnic, we all ate food in the hall as a class. I made a cheese sandwich. Zack: I like the picnic, it was really cool. I made

a ham and cheese sandwich and brought in some chocolate cakes and strawberries to share with my friends. Natasha: I enjoyed the food. I ate strawberries after I had my tuna and mayonnaise sandwich. Finley: I made a sandwich of cheese and ham. I ate a packet of Skips and a chocolate cake with strawberries. I had a drink of juice too. Tino: I made a tuna and cheese sandwich. We shared our food with the class. We had a mat on the floor in the hall to put our food and drink on. Jo: We had a picnic in the hall because it was raining. I liked the strawberries. It was good fun.

S3 started their final PSE Entry level unit of the year this week, it is Emotional Wellbeing. They have already successfully completed 3 Entry level units so far. James: We looked at

how to recognise emotions. I drew things that are happy experiences for me – doing word searches, football and watching tree movies. Kelsey: We looked at what are sad experiences, I drew about being bullied because that would make me sad. Ben: We had to think about who could help us in emotional times. I wrote about if you were lost who could help. I came up with – using your phone to call for help, asking someone for help or if you were with a friend you could stay together and try to walk back the way you came. I was told it was important to ask for help from a policeman or a shopkeeper as it’s safer. Joshua: I wrote about who could help if someone died, I thought about who was out there that you could talk to, I came up with – getting mental help like from a doctor, an expert or talk to your friends. Skye: What would make me sad is to have no friends and being shouted at. You would feel very lonely. Camron: We had to choose jobs for people on a sheet from a list. We all chose a woman being a nurse, a woman being a dancer and a man being a builder. We were all wrong, we all just guessed because that’s what it’s usually like but people can be what they want to be.

Willow Class News This week Willow class have been learning about washing with a flannel in space! Tristan: We saw a man with a compressed towel. Kaiden: The man put water on the towel. The water floated. Max: There was no gravity. Ruby: We had a bowl of water and put a compressed flannel in the water.

Toby: The flannel got bigger. Keith: We squeezed it to get the water out. The water dropped into the bowl. Ryan: The astronauts water went up and on his hands. Hannah: My hands got wet but the water dripped back into the bowl. Kajetan: I squeezed a flannel to see where the water went. Ashmit: Water went into the bowl.

Despite our initial sadness over the weather stopping us from going to Wicksteed Park, we enjoyed Team Oak Party Day! Miss Sheehan made us a cake! We attempted to make slime which was really fun, but it was too sticky. We were glad to still go horse riding! Amy was lucky to be chosen to melt the chocolate and ice the cake

at the end of the day. Chibunna: We make our party crowns! It looks so good - gems and glitter! Jake: Making Pokemon cards out of paper and we had logos to stick on the back. I made Meowth, Cubone and Eevee. Kaleem: Balloons, kick like football. Aishah: Wicksteed Park has closed but I want to go to Oak class party. I make Pikachu card. Max: We ate popcorn and I did dancing.

Dove class have been looking at taking care of their teeth. Oliver: If you don’t brush your teeth both day and night other people won’t like the way your teeth will look when they start going rotten. Alex W: I think looking after your teeth is very important because if you don’t look after them you could end up with holes called ‘cavities’. You

should brush your teeth every morning and every night to avoid cavities. Jamie: Sometimes you get food stuck in your teeth so you should always floss your teeth after brushing them. Alex R: You should not eat sugary foods because

the sugar rots your teeth and makes you fat. You should eat healthy foods. Irfanul: You must brush your teeth or your breath will smell. Toothpaste makes your breath smell nice and protects your teeth. Sam: I have a soft toothbrush and it is blue. You must brush the front and the back teeth because they will get rotten. Joshua: You must brush your teeth for 2 minutes because that’s what it says on the video! Ethan: Brush your teeth it’s good to keep them clean.

Well done to Ash, S1B and S4 for 100% attendance this week.

In Food Tech Sixth Form are working towards another unit called Picnics and Buffets. In order to achieve the unit they have been researching and planning the types of foods eaten on a picnic. Each student decided what they wanted to

eat, this week they prepared their food and had an indoor picnic. Thamid: In Food Tech we had a picnic, it is part of a unit award. I made my own sandwiches with cheese, I spread butter on the bread then I cut my sandwich into half, into 2 triangles. I also heated the pizza in the oven to eat at the picnic. I was helping my friend by opening the can of tuna with the can opener for them. Georgina: After we prepared all the picnic food we had

an indoor picnic as it was raining very heavily outdoors. I enjoyed the indoor picnic, it was still fun. We set the food out on the picnic blanket, then we all sat on the floor and ate our picnic. I made ham and cheese sandwiches, they were delicious. Jennifer: I made tuna and mayonnaise sandwiches for the picnic. We had lots of food; like grapes, strawberries, tomatoes, pineapple and salads to eat as well. The picnic was part of our learning for the unit award. I was excited about having a picnic. Ahlima: I enjoyed the picnic food, I made cheese sandwiches. I also made a salad with tomatoes which I cut myself. I helped set up the picnic placing all the food on the blanket. Kate: I was sharing my food with my friends. I had pizza, strawberries, crisps, salad and sandwiches to eat. I made tuna sandwiches, they were yummy.
