The Tribune reaches more than 200,000 readers throughout Queens each week, providing extensive coverage of local news, with a strong focus on coverage of politics, business, education and healthcare. The Queens Tribune has become a reliable resource for all through its annual publication of special sections, including the Queens Blue Book – The O cial Guide to Queens – along with annual healthcare and business directories.

The paper’s rich tradition of insightful and strident editorials, groundbreaking investigative features and informative special sections has frequently been honored with statewide journalism awards, and it is a tradition that continues with each issue.

Founded in 1970 by former Congressman Gary Ackerman, the Queens Tribune has consistently been a pioneer for weekly community journalism in the Borough for more than 40 years.

The Tribune’s reach as the Borough’s best source for news is now extended to the web as well, with an all-new website, updated regularly with the latest news and information important to our readers. In addition to the award-winning news stories, the website also features photo galleries and video highlighting the constant stream of news happening in Queens.

But the Tribune is not just a source of news. We are an integral part of the Queens community. Not only does the Tribune cover news, but throughout the year, the Tribune will host a number of community events – like the annual Small Business Achievement Awards – that honor the best that Queens has to o er.

“In towns where there is a strong sense of community,” he said at the time, “there is no more important institution than the local paper.”

~ Warren BuffetTHEY HAVE DEEP ROOTS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES:and they keep their communities connected. They cover the local goings-on, from school board meetings to Little League games to the annual town parade and the occasional bake sale for a worthy cause.

People turn to them for information such as lunch menus, honor roll listings and high school basketball scores, the things that keep small town humming.

They don’t clutter their front pages with national and international news, knowing their readers can find those stories on TV or the internet.

THEY ENJOY THE SUPPORT OF LOCAL BUSINESSES:typically small businesses, as advertisers, by offering affordable rates.

THEY REMAIN VERY PRINT-FOCUSED:digital abilities may run the gamut, from super-sophisticated to non-existent, but their core product is delivered in print. They don’t give away their content without something in return.

THEY ARE LEAN OPERATIONS:and were so before the recession. So when the recession hit, they may have laid people off, but not in huge numbers, as at the bigger papers. That Meant a lot less disruption.

THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED STAFFS:there’s lots of churn in the newspaper business, with so many reporters staying brief periods before moving on to the next larger paper for more pay and a better beat. They never really get to know the towns they cover on their way up. Staff at smaller papers tend to stay, becoming part of the communities they cover. They are much better tuned into what their readers want to know and to do those stories.
