1. Overview of the Project
Needs of teacher training system for teachers in technology stream
Establish A/L technology stream tocultivate qualified human resources
Needs for detail plan to establishment And operation for Technical NCoE
Needs of action plan for preparation of five-year implementation plan
Promotion to Develop the Joint Action Plan for the
Project “Establishment of
National College of Education and
Teacher Training System for A/L
Technology Stream
The Technology Stream was newly introduced to GCE ALs in 2013
Only 20% of Sri Lankan students enters into university while 80% participates in the programs of
vocational centers, goes into job market, or remains unemployed after GCE A/Level (see Appendix 1, 2)
Increasing request of cultivating qualified teachers who can satisfy the needs of the academic and job
market
Based on these consideration, the establishment of 20th NCoE in technology stream was determined

2-1. Advantages of Hybrid curriculum proposal for Technical NCoE
Total credits will satisfy NIE guideline for bachelor degree
Core common subjects will be established in technical NCOE which introduces engineering
technology and Bio-system technology
Core common subjects will be mandatory courses of each departments which will nourish
future teacher in A/L technology stream
Science for technology will establish knowledge foundation for admitted students from A/L
technology stream
Core common subjects will establish knowledge foundation for admitted students from A/L
general subject students
Teacher should be ready for introduction of cross cutting technology so that A/L students will
be easily fitted to the development of industry
Except core common subjects, each department has specialty in their majors.
Specialty subjects will be mandatory courses in each of department
Strategy 2: Fostering Additional Specialty
Strategy 1: Generalist with Broader Knowledge
