PAGE TWO SAINT CYRIL OF JERUSALEM NOVEMBER 10TH 2019
From The Desk of Father MacFrom The Desk of Father Mac One year ago, we launched the Called to Renew Campaign, inviting our parish families to make a pledge commitment to be paid over five years to renew our parish and our local church. Our fundraising goal was one million dollars. Thanks to the generosity of 190 families in our community, we ex-ceeded our goal with a little more than 1.2 million dollars pledged. Campaign funds will be used to renew our local church by supporting Catholic education, prison ministry, ministry to the sick and dying, and priestly vocations. Our share of campaign funds will be used here at St. Cyril’s to replace the heating/air-conditioning system in the church, repair the church roof, upgrade the church sound system, make improvements to the rectory, and make improve-ments to our modular classrooms. I am very pleased to announce that the first project paid for by Called to Renew funds is now underway. The instal-lation of the new heating and air-conditioning system in the church has begun. This project has been a long-time coming and I am very excited that it is coming to fruition! The in-stallation is expected to take about three weeks so we hope it will be completed by Thanksgiving. The aging HVAC system in the church was prone to break-downs and costly repairs, so the replacement of this system is long overdue. This project is only possible due to the sac-rifices of the families who made a gift or pledge to the Called to Renew Campaign. I extend my deepest thanks to those who have already ful-filled their pledge. I am so grateful for your generous sup-port. I also want to thank those who have been faithfully making payments on their original pledges. Your continued support will allow us to complete the other projects out-lined in the Called to Renew Campaign case for support. If you made a pledge to Called to Renew but have yet to make a payment or have fallen behind on your payments, I humbly ask that you make arrangements to pay on your pledge. It is important that our donors honor their pledge commitment to that we will have the funds to complete the other Called to Renew projects on our parish wishlist. If your circumstances have changed and you find that you are unable to honor your original pledge, please contact the parish office to discuss alternative arrangements. For those of you who are new to the parish and did not have the opportunity to participate in the Called to Renew cam-paign, it is not too late! I invite you to become involved. The more money we raise, the more we will be able to ac-complish to renew our parish. If you would like to learn more about Called to Renew or would like to make a gift to this important campaign, please contact the parish office. YOURS IN CHRIST, REV. EBEN MACDONALD, PASTOR
THE PARISH OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 11TH IN OBSERVANCE OF THE VETERAN’S DAY HOLIDAY. WE WILL REO-PEN FOR REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH.

ST CYRIL OF JERUSALEM PARISH STEWARDSHIP
NOVEMBER 2ND “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.” 2 T 2:16-17
There are two important Stewardship lessons here. First, we are called to be generous with our encouragement and hope. As God shows us mercy, we must be merciful to oth-ers. Second, joy is contagious! The joy we receive from do-ing good works not only strengthens us, it encourages others as well. Share the joy of living your faith
Our Weekly Collection Goal is $15,000

SAFEGUARDING THE CHILDREN UNDERSTANDING THE DECEPTION TACTICS OF
ABUSERS Sex abusers are out to deceive everyone around them. And for many people, it’s hard to acknowledge the reality that predators are among us, and, are often the last people we expect. Many abusers utilize trusted positions in
the community — coaches, teachers, organization leaders — to find and groom victims, and they count on the esteem of their positions to excuse them from any suspicion. Un-derstanding the layers of deception utilized by an abuser helps us have a better handle on recognizing red flags and signs of potential abuse. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS welcomes any adult, 18 and over, who is inter-ested in the Catholic faith and encourages those who wish to complete their sacraments. The first information meeting was held on Sep-
tember 24th. The classes will meet twice monthly. Our next class will be held on Tuesday, November 5th from 7-8:30pm in the parish bungalow. Parking is at the Firma-ment parking area or on the street. You may call the Re-ligious Education Office for more information, 818 789-5947

RED CROSS REPORTS EMERGENCY
BLOOD SHORTAGE
“Blood donations are currently being distributed to hospitals faster than donations are coming in – we need both new and current blood donors to make an appointment as soon as possible to help patients battling illness and injury,” said Chris Hrouda, presi-dent of Red Cross Blood Services It is crucial that the Red Cross has sufficient blood supply on hand to meet the needs of patients every day and to be prepared for emergencies that require significant volumes of blood. The summer season is traditionally a difficult time to collect enough blood to meet patient needs
