St. Mary Parish Sixth Sunday of Easter May 6, 2018
6th Sunday of Easter
Today’s scriptures give us a message that is loud and clear: “Let us love one another…” and “This is my commandment, love one another.” The love that we share is not our own, but rather it is the love God has for us. Love is a powerful means of evangelization. The love of a faithful disciple draws people to Jesus Christ. So, let’s take the scripture to heart this week and extend the love of God to others.

50th Walk for Hunger & 5K Run on Sunday, May 6! Funds
raised by the Walk come back to organizations like ours that
work to end hunger in Massachusetts. We are so grateful to
Project Bread for their support of this critical work in our state.
Project Bread began 50 years ago with the first Walk for
Hunger, when a small group of committed citizens took to the
streets to bring awareness to this social justice issue. Today,
thousands of people still participate in the Walk to support the
1 in 10 people in Massachusetts who are food-insecure. Be a
part of this tradition. Join the movement today as a Walker,
Runner or Volunteer, and together, we can make hunger
history. Register today at www.projectbread.org/walk!

As I settle into St. Mary, I am so grateful to everyone
who has welcomed me to the parish. St. Mary is my
home literally. I don’t own any property. I am so
grateful to Jim and Greg Spry, of Spry Movers in
Woburn, for their generous assistance in my move to my
new home. The team at Spry was professional, friendly
and extremely efficient as they packed my belongings
meticulously into boxes and delivered them with great
care to the Rectory. The Spry Family are wonderful
parishioners and are very supportive to many wonderful
charities throughout the area. I am humbled by their
generosity and very grateful for their help.

Today’s Reflection
Last week the word “remain” was repeated over and over in the second reading and in the Gospel. This week the word is “love.” In both his first letter and his Gospel, John writes “love one another.” It is a command to all Jesus’ disciples, from the apostles at the Last Supper to all of us gathered around the table of the Lord today. To love each other as we are loved by God is what we are called to do.
