eSpoSizioni tematiche

LA SICILIA AL CENTRO DELL’ATTENZIONE Le esposizioni tematiche della 49a edizione del Bologna Mineral Show, vedono ancora una volta protagonista la Sicilia, e questa volta non solo dal punto di vista mineralogico. La Sicilia vanta infatti una grande tradizione mineraria che nei secoli ha contribuito non poco a costruirne il tessuto sociale ed economico. Uno dei modi per capire quanto questo sia vero, è approfondire quanto, attraverso il lavoro, tutto ciò sia costato e quanto abbia dato alla gente di Sicilia, andando oltre la bellezza dei cristalli rinvenuti durante le operazioni di miniera. Cristalli che ancora oggi possiamo ammirare e che sono memoria di un grande passato.La miniera “La Grasta” (solfara Grasta) ne è un classico esempio. Si tratta di una solfara di modeste dimensioni situata presso Sommati-no (Caltanissetta); nota fin dalla metà dell’800, la sua attività ha vis-suto il cambiamento dei metodi di estrazione dello zolfo e delle con-dizioni di lavoro, dal trasporto a spalla del minerale durato fino agli anni ’30 del 900 per arrivare alla storia recente con la ristrutturazione avvenuta negli anni ’60, fino al definitivo abbandono negli anni ’80. In questo lasso di tempo, attraverso il lavoro e i sacrifici dei minatori e la memoria di tragedie passate la solfara racconta una storia ricca di umanità. Oggi La Grasta ci lascia straordinari cristalli, soprattutto di celestina, sia bianca che di un bellissimo colore azzurro, che l’hanno resa celebre ai collezionisti e arricchito le vetrine di grandi musei in tutto il mondo. Un’importante selezione di questi eccezionali cam-pioni sarà esposta al 49° Bologna Mineral Show, unitamente a reperti minerari, a raccontarci un po’ di storia di questa meravigliosa terra che è la Sicilia.

SIMETITE – LA PREZIOSA AMBRA DI SICILIALa simetite è uno dei tesori più preziosi della Sicilia, ma forse anche uno dei meno noti. È una rara varietà di ambra che si rinviene preva-lentemente in prossimità della foce del fiume Simeto, da cui prende il nome, ma è nota anche in altri luoghi della Sicilia; tra le provincie di Siracusa e Ragusa, sul litorale Ibleo, un tratto di costa è da alcuni deno-minato come “Costa dell’ambra” per via dei ritrovamenti di un tempo.Il colore intenso con tonalità vicine al rosso e la gemmosità dei cam-pioni più belli, la rendono una varietà di ambra tra le più preziose e ricercate al mondo, utilizzata come ornamento e in gioielleria fin da tempi antichi. La simetite ha anche una storia meno nota che lega la Sicilia a Bologna, e più precisamente al Museo Bombicci, ancora una volta importante presenza al Bologna Mineral Show. Al Museo Bom-bicci, è infatti conservata quella che è considerata una tra le più im-portanti collezioni di reperti in simetite, comprendente sia manufatti che campioni naturali, di cui molti con inclusioni di insetti. Tra questi campioni, acquisiti e catalogati da Luigi Bombicci, particolare atten-zione era stata posta allo studio degli insetti fossili, soprattutto formi-che, mosche, zanzare e api, alcuni dei quali si sono rivelati nuovi alla scienza e pertanto di grandissimo interesse. Grazie alla collaborazione con il Museo Bombicci di Bologna, sarà esposta un’ampia varietà di questi eccezionali reperti, selezionando tra campioni di maggior pre-gio estetico ed esemplari di grande rilevanza scientifica.

Special exhibition SICILY IN FOCUS Once again the main topic of the special exhibitions of the 49th edition of the Bologna Mineral Show is the Sicily, but not only observed from its Mineralogical point of view.Sicily has a very long and intense mining history that, has contributed throuh the ages to the build up and establishment of its social and eco-nomic structure. One of the best way to realize this effect is to observe how the mining economy contributed to the work of the inhabitants of this Island, besides the great crystals specimens that we can still admire, specimens which are a memory of great old times.The “La Grasta” mine (Solfara Grasta) is a great exhample of these dy-namics. Known since the mid ‘800, the Solfara has seen through the years some changes both in mining techniques and human working conditions, from the transport of the ore up to the surface carried on the shoulders of the miners in the mid ‘800 untill the 1930, to the complete renwal of the entire mine done in the ’60, and the final closure of the mining activities in the ‘80s. Thanks to the hard work, to the sacrifices of the miners and to the memories of some mining tragedies happened during the working years of this mine, today the solfara Grasta bring us an extremely humanity-rich history. Today, from this little mine, we can

admire great, world-famous white and pale blue Celestite crystals that are known in the Museums and Collector’s environments worldwide. A selection of these great crystals specimens will be on display at the 49th edition of the Bologna Mineral Show together with some historical mining manufacts, that will tell us a little bit about the history of that fantastic island called Sicily.

SIMETITE – THE PRECIOUS AMBER OF SICILYSimetite is one of the most precious treasures of Sicily, though it is one of the less known. It is a rare variety of Amber, found originally nearby the Simeto river estuary from which it was named after, but the Simetite is also found in some other localities of Sicily, in the area between the two cities of Siracusa and Ragusa, on the Iblean coast, and in a special coastal area named “Costa dell’ambra”. The intense color tending to red and the gemmyness of the best specimens, sets the Simetite among the most beautiful, precious and most sought-after ambers worldwide, and it is used as ornamental and jewelry stone since ages.A less known history, bounds Sicily to the city of Bologna, more precisely with the Bombicci Museum that will be as well present at the Bologna Mineral Show. In the Bombicci Museum it is kept what is considered to be one of the most important collection of Simetite manufacts and non worked Simetite specimens, including some samples of Simetite insects inclusions that have been acquired and catalogued by the Museum di-rectly from Luigi Bombicci. Among these inclusions, special attention has been given to ants, flies, mosquitos and bee, and during the studies some of them resulted to be new to the science of those times, so then they were very important samples for the research. In collaboration with the Bombicci Museum of Bologna, there will be a wide display of these exceptional specimens, selected among the most aesthetically representative ones and the most scientifically important.
