Y Dear Parents and Students
Whilst today at school we celebrated the friendship we have with our visiting Japanese students and staff, from both Kanagawa and Kagoshima, by way of “Japanese Day”, we remember with heavy hearts the people of Japan who have been so tragically affected by the massive quake and tsunami of last Friday. May they find courage and strength in the face of such adversity and hardship. We send our prayers and our love. Jesus, in his humanity, weeps with us. May peace and harmony be restored as soon as possible for the people of Japan. In this season of Lent, I offer this Leunig prayer for your reflection.
God help us to find our confession; The truth within us which is hidden from our mind; The beauty or the ugliness we see elsewhere But never in ourselves; The stowaway which has been smuggled Into the dark side of the heart, Which puts the heart off balance and causes it pain, Which wearies and confuses us, Which tips us in false directions and inclines us to destruction, The load which is not carried squarely Because it is carried in ignorance. God help us to find our confession. Help us across the boundary of our understanding. Lead us into the darkness that we may find what lies concealed; That we may confess it towards the light; That we may carry our truth in the centre of our heart; That we may carry our cross wisely And bring harmony into our life and our world. Amen
WHOLE SCHOOL SURVEY As part of our ongoing commitment to provide excellence in the education of girls, the College has engaged the professional services of MYP Corporation to undertake a whole school survey on its behalf. The three major stakeholder groups ‐ students, ‐ parents and staff ‐ are each being invited to participate. This on‐line survey will be open from 28 March to 10 April. This survey is strictly confidential with all responses being collated independently by MYP Corporation. In relation to this all students, parents and staff were emailed a letter from me last week explaining the survey purpose and process. If you did not receive this email, please contact my secretary, Mrs Gail Newman, to ensure that we have your correct email details so that you are able to participate in this important process. In anticipation, I thank you for your involvement in helping us to shape the future directions of Loreto. In the coming months I look forward to sharing with you a summary of the findings.
Welcome home to our Mary Ward Connect travellers. By all accounts the Loreto exchange was memorable and worthwhile. Thank you again to our host families for supporting the students and the school with this unique “Loretian” adventure. We thoroughly enjoyed having our visitors from Loreto Normanhurst and Ballarat with us and this would simply not have been possible without your kind support. CONGRATULATIONS
To the Loreto Swimming Squad for their amazing efforts at the CSGSSA Interschool Swimming Carnival yesterday. As a team you trained well throughout the term and your results in the pool were duly impressive. Many girls showed pleasing improvements on their times from the start of the season. You are each to be congratulated on giving your best and on representing Loreto so well. Overall, we came a credible 4th. Coming 2nd in the Percentage Trophy (Aggregate scored divided by school population) was a very pleasing and satisfying result.
BEST WISHES Our best wishes go to Zara Duffy, Abby Page, Laura Quinn, Lauren Roberts and Fiona McMahon for their forthcoming performances in St Laurence’s Musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat”. We wish them every success for this weekend’s shows.
Yours sincerely
Cheryl Hamilton Principal

Facebook / Social Media Advice Are you in control of your virtual life? Here are some simple tips for sensible social media usage.
Keep your personal details private. Don’t post information about yourself that strangers might read, and don’t share your password with anyone at all. Don’t put photos up of yourself or your friends wearing school uniform.
Make sure you have the highest security settings you can only allowing your direct friends access to your posts and photos.
Think twice about what you say and post. Don’t post anything you don’t want others to see or know about.
Don’t join (or ‘like’) groups that make fun of or run down other people.
Remember – it is forever!! Written posts and photos on the internet can remain there for a long time and might be seen by future employers, partners and even your own children!
Respect your friends. Be a good friend, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Remember that private images and videos you send to friends or post on a social networking site may be easily passed on to others and uploaded to public sites. This can include pictures that may only be intended for your close friends or your boyfriend/girlfriend. Once they’re up, it’s almost impossible to remove them completely.
Before you post anything ask yourself whether you would say it to them in person.
Don’t just assume that other people are happy about you putting photos of them up on your Facebook.
Don’t get behind in your school work because you are spending so much time on Facebook or other social media sites.

Interact Dance Success Thanks to the staff, parents and wonderfully spirited students for a successful dance last Saturday night at the PCYC. Approximately $6000 was raised. A great effort! Thanks to Diane McGowan, Gavin Swanson, Libby Oliver and Kirsty Gore for their support and supervision on the night. Kind thanks to the many parents who assisted so cheerfully, Barb Kassulke, Sharon Orr, Lisa Gilhooley, Linda Geary, Elizabeth Mastry, Karen Armstrong, Jenny Hunter, Julie Burton, Linda Stevens, Gavin Raison, David Moore, Philippe Beylot, Tricia Shannon and Karen Meimaris. We were also grateful to have 5 volunteers from the Stones Corner Rotary Club assist with supervision. The executive committee of Emma‐Shay Guilfoyle, Jenna Nash, Agata Pokora, Georgia O'Sullivan and Zoe Johnston did a brilliant job in organising the music for the DJ and the supervision canteen roster. Thanks must also go the 600 students of Loreto and invited boys schools for their co‐operation and felicity on the night. It was loads of fun for everyone!

St Vincent de Paul – Sumner Park Excursion On Friday 11th March, 16 St Vincent de Paul girls along with Mr Kenny travelled to the Vinnies Warehouse at Sumner Park. On arrival we were eager and ready to assist and were inducted into the process of packaging the enormous amount of donations received by the warehouse. After the Queensland floods, the Sumner Park warehouse had received copious donations of clothing, shoes, toys, furniture, linen and other items, presenting an enormous task for the regular volunteers to prepare in time for the winter season. After splitting up in groups and being put to work in the various sorting stations we became involved in folding, sorting and boxing donated items, and loading them onto trolleys to be transported to other Vinnies warehouses and retail stores. Although our time spent there was short, it was an enjoyable experience for all and we all came away with an immense appreciation for those volunteers who dedicate so much of their time to helping those who are in
need. Stephanie Esprester ‐ Board Member The staff at Sumner Park commented on how well our students worked for the whole of the time they

were there. Students were delighted to have the opportunity to help those affected by the floods and wished they could give more of their time to such a worthy cause. My thanks to those members for their exemplary behaviour and the way they committed themselves to the jobs that they were assigned. Well done!
You make us proud. Bill Kenny ‐ St Vincent de Paul Coordinator
Easter Egg Collection Please keep the chocolate eggs coming in. Our members are wrapping them at lunchtimes. Thank you.

Many parents may have seen the band perform at the Villanova Mum's night, the recent St Bernard's flood relief event or at local clubs. For more information please see the flyer attached to this newsletter. We hope to see you there.

teammates and running hard after rogue passes. Such effort is to commended! From the whole team, we look forward to more re l iab le serves in games to come. Junior E2 - Won, 2 sets to 1, Stuartholme College Another superb performance from our E2 team. After convincingly winning the first set with consistent serving and return of serve, the second set was a different story. Stuartholme combined well to fight for every point, eventually taking the set 25‐23, so close and exciting. However, our girls powered home in the third set to win

Volleyball 2011 The halfway mark of the season proved to be a round of great Volleyball. All teams produced competitive, improved and solid attacking performances. Well done, Girls!
Round 5 ‐ Please take note, a number of changes have been made from the original draw. This Week’s Draw ‐ Round 5: 16 March Open A v SSC Away: San Sisto College Open B v AHS Home: MWC Junior A v MMK Away: Boondall Junior B v BRI Home: Southbank Tafe Junior D v BRI Home: Southbank Tafe Junior E2 v SRC Home: Loreto Tennis Court Girls are reminded to change into their playing uniform at Lunch time and report to the MWC at 3.05pm ready for a 3.15 departure. If there is a change to your daughter’s pick up arrangements a note needs to be given to Mrs Gore by morning tea on game day. Supporters are always welcome!
Results: Round 4 ‐ 9 March Open A ‐ Won, 3 sets to nil, Stuartholme College The open A team performed well in the first set through some strong serving and kept the momentum going in their direction. The girls had to work hard in the second set and scramble for balls in backcourt. By improving their free ball passing and keeping up the strong serving, the girls managed to secure their third win of the season. Good work girls!
Open B ‐ Lost, 2 sets to 1, St John Fisher College This week we played St John Fisher College out at their school at Bracken Ridge. The score was 15‐25, 25‐15, 13‐15, so we were extremely close to winning. It took the girls a while to get focussed, but after that they started playing great volleyball, successfully executing a pass‐set‐spike system on a number of occasions. Great serving performances by Sarah Pettiford and Georgia O'Sullivan were backed up with great play at the net by Liz Kehoe.
Jnr A ‐ Lost, 2 sets to 1, Mt Alvernia College Junior A's struggled this week without some of their team mates (due to Mary Ward Connect) and after a tough game, lost 2‐1. There were some brilliant attack moments though, with great blocking shown by Carla Caputo, passing by Georgia Hillas and covering by Emily Cumming! Next week the girls are going to continue improving their serving and passing. Jnr B ‐ Won, 3 sets to nil, Lourdes Hill College What super performance! This team continues to grow in confidence, understanding and skill. There were many 3 set options and consistent serving. We look forward to a repeat performance this week. Many thanks to our stand in Super Coach, Mrs Odette Page!
Jnr D ‐ Lost, 2 sets to 1, St Rita's College Our first game at our 'other' home court at Southbank Tafe was a spirited one, which we narrowly lost. The second set was the highlight with a convincing performance, especially in the service area, where Kate O'Sullivan shone in both her serving and movement around the court. Kelsey Ahrens' competitive spirit revealed itself in her backing up
