PENTECOST (YEAR C) 15TH MAY, 2016 We support the endeavours of the Royal Commission to bring healing to the victims of abuse. Church's website: www.facingthetruth.org.au Mass Count: During the month of May there will be a count of those attending masses in our three communities—starting this weekend. Conversation in Faith Next Tuesday, 17th May, 7.30 pm in the McKenna Centre. Our next conversation is with Mohammed Ali Baquiri Some parishioners may remember that Fr Michael interviewed Mohammed during the Masses on a Sunday last year. At that time he could only respond briefly to the questions Michael asked him. He is a refugee with a fascinating personal story, he is now almost finished a law degree and is a powerful advocate for refugees and asylum seekers. He will share with us a compelling story well worth hearing. Today, on the feast of Pentecost, we joyfully commission our newly Baptised and Initiated members, Alice, Rod and Jasmine. Having completed their journey with RCIA they are now fully integrated into our catholic Community, and we ask God’s Blessing as we all move forward in the living of our life in the Spirit. PENTECOST The Holy Spirit is not simply a wild wind or a powerful breath, or ‘tongues of fire’ … images such as fire, water, wind, breath have been used in our scriptures to try to convey the presence and action of the Spirit. However, the Spirit is much more than this. The Spirit is God among us, experienced as: The power to move muscles, The summit of joy, The strength to enshrine justice, The exhilaration of love, The source of new life, The comfort of peace, and The foundation of hope, The amazement of grace. Chaplaincy Sunday, in this Year of Mercy, is an opportunity for all of us to commit ourselves to the words of Pope Francis, “it must be a place of mercy where everyone can feel welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged to live the good life of the Gospel”. The presence of Catholic Chaplains is a crucial witness to our faith, a crucial dimension of our service of love, and a vital testimony to the value of life in all its stages. Mass Count: During the month of May there will be a count of those attending masses in our three communities—starting this weekend.

Conversation in Faith — Next Tuesday, 17th May, 7.30 pm in the McKenna Centre.

Our next conversation is with Mohammed Ali Baquiri

Some parishioners may remember that Fr Michael interviewed Mohammed during the Masses on a Sunday last year. At that time he could only respond briefly to the questions Michael asked him. He is a refugee with a fascinating personal story, he is now almost finished a law degree and is a powerful advocate for refugees and asylum seekers. He will share with us a compelling story well worth hearing.

Today, on the feast of Pentecost, we joyfully

commission our newly Baptised and Initiated

members, Alice, Rod and Jasmine. Having completed

their journey with RCIA they are now fully integrated

into our catholic Community, and we ask God’s Blessing as we all

move forward in the living of our life in the Spirit.

PENTECOST The Holy Spirit is not simply a wild wind or a powerful breath, or ‘tongues of fire’ … images such as

fire, water, wind, breath have been used in our scriptures to try to convey the presence and action

of the Spirit. However, the Spirit is much more than this.

The Spirit is God among us, experienced as:

The power to move muscles, The summit of joy,

The strength to enshrine justice, The exhilaration of love,

The source of new life, The comfort of peace, and

The foundation of hope, The amazement of grace.

My name is Jess, I was a student at St Peters primary school, and in 2015 I began

volunteering as a nurse for a variety of underprivileged people within Kenya, Africa.

I was working with abused women and children, refugees, street kids and at a

camp that holds over 4,500 internally displaced persons.

When I arrived home, I started fundraising money to take back to them. It was a

huge success, raising a total of $17,000; $5000 of which the church community do-

nated. The money went to a variety of sustainable causes, the main one was suc-

cessfully supplying a camp that holds over 4,500 internally displaced people with

clean water. I will be coming back to speak at mass over the weekend of the 21-

22nd of May to thank everyone for the donations and support and to further explain

to you where your money went!

Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again experience violence, rejection and division; may all who have been hurt or scandalised find ready comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God’s plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Graciously hear our prayer. Amen.

Trinity Refugee Outreach (TRO)

Teams were formed to engage our communities with the issues of our times in relation to Refugees and Asylum Seekers. One team began working on raising awareness of asylum seeker issues through talks by Mohammad Ali Baqiri, David Spitteler, Bishop Long and Libby Saunders from BASP, to date. Another team is working on promoting advocacy for the rights of asylum seekers and a third team is working on ways to provide practical support and hospitality for people seeking asylum. At our last meeting Trinity Refugee Outreach teams decided to support the ‘Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP)’. Further information on BASP to follow in next week’s bulletin.

Asylum Seeker

The Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP) is

looking for someone with a granny flat type

arrangement who might be open to

accommodating a single Iranian refugee, about 30

years of age, with two small, well-trained dogs.

He speaks excellent English. However, the

government will not provide him with a work

permit as he is a boat refugee with only a

temporary visa. He would have some support

services through BASP, and perhaps through our

parish community.

If you are in this position would you please notify

the Parish Office and we will take it from there.

PARISH STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM 2016

Our Parish Stewardship Program commences in two weeks. Under the banner of Parishes – the heartbeat of the

Church, the Program will provide a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what it means to be a member of Our

Parish Community here at Holy Trinity Parish.

STEWARDSHIP

Stewardship recognizes that everything we are and everything we have is a gift from God. Genuine thanksgiving

means using those gifts as God would want – developing them and sharing them with others. It is our

responsibility as good stewards in Holy Trinity Parish to respond to the words of Pope Francis – “…….to set

ourselves on the ideals of service that makes our talents fruitful.”

PARISH INFORMATION MEETINGS

All parishioners are warmly invited to the key meeting of the Program, the Parish Information Meeting on Thursday the

16th

of June (2pm & 7.30pm). At this meeting we will gather as a parish community to celebrate our achievements and

plan for the future - please mark this date in your calendar. More Program information will be available over coming

weeks. Please join our parish community in praying for the success of the Program.

STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM PRAYER

Lord, we thank you for calling us to be your Church.

Through our Baptism we are called to service and to witness.

In the Eucharist we sustain and strengthen that call.

By serving others we follow your example and proclaim our beliefs.

By our Christian generosity we demonstrate our love and care.

Lord, help us always to worship you as you deserve,

to grow in faith and service

and to give without counting the cost.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

PENTECOST (YEAR C)

1 Month Remembrance

Gospel: John 14: 15-16, 23-26 Jesus said to his disciples

‘If you love me you will keep my commandments.

I shall ask the Father

and he will give you another Advocate

to be with you for ever.

If anyone loves me he will keep my word,

and my Father will love him,

and we shall come to him

and make our home with him.

Those who do not love me do not keep my words.

And my word is not my own;

it is the word of the one who sent me.

I have said these things to you

while still with you;

but the Advocate, the Holy Spirit,

whom the Father will send in my name,

will teach you everything

and remind you of all that I have said to you.’
