Expert-system for an
INtelligent Supply of Thermal Energy in INdustry
and other large scale applications
EINSTEIN II
15th of December 2012IEE/09/702/SI2.558239, Project duration from 1/07/2010 to 31/10/2012
Project SummaryObjective: integral energy-efficient solutions for
thermal energy supply
in industrial companies with large heat demand
In large non-industrial users such as hospitals, office buildings
Main activities:
Further development and dissemination of the EINSTEIN thermal energy auditing tool-kit
Basic and advanced training courses for energy auditors
Implementation of auditing campaigns
Standardization activities
Countries: Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, UK, Slovakia, Spain
15th of December 2012IEE/09/702/SI2.558239, Project duration from 1/07/2010 to 31/10/2012
BackgroundOptimization of thermal energy supply:
Complexity of analysis of heat demand
Quantity and QUALITY (temperature level) to be known Holistic approach required (all available concepts / technologies:
process optimization, heat recovery, CHP, renewables, heat pumps)
Need for fast but high quality audit methodology
STANDARDIZATION
SEMI-AUTOMATIZATION
DATA SUBMISSION BY DISTANCE
EINSTEIN THERMAL AUDITS
- easily affordable for SMEs- high quality- reliable- user friendly
“QUICK&DIRTY” FAST ESTIMATION OF MISSING DATA
15th of December 2012IEE/09/702/SI2.558239, Project duration from 1/07/2010 to 31/10/2012
Objective and main steps (I)Specific objectives: consolidate experience and EINSTEIN thermal energy
audit tools from previous IEE project EINSTEIN 2007-2009
extend to new countries and new target groups (buildings in the service sector)
Strategic long-term objectives convert EINSTEIN into best-practice standard for
thermal energy auditing establish an EINSTEIN community for maintenance
and further development as free and open source project
15th of December 2012IEE/09/702/SI2.558239, Project duration from 1/07/2010 to 31/10/2012
Objective and main steps (II)EINSTEIN II will:
consolidate the EINSTEIN thermal energy audit methodology and improve the robustness of software tool (WP5)
extend its application to non-industrial uses (buildings)
realise an intensive training programme in 10 European countries (WP2)
72 audits in the 10 countries (WP3)
contribute to standardisation activities ongoing in the CEN/CENELEC Committees on energy management and energy audit, and elaborate a draft for a CEN workshop agreement (WP4)
15th of December 2012IEE/09/702/SI2.558239, Project duration from 1/07/2010 to 31/10/2012
Main results Consolidated EINSTEIN tool-kit V2.2 (software
tool + audit guide) with extension to non-industrial users-> http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/einstein
256 auditors trained in 10 countries, 107 auditors trained in advanced trainings
72 audit reports in industry and in the service sector. Average primary energy savings of 20% (about 40% of primary energy for thermal uses)
CEN/CENELEC workshop agreement “Good Practice Thermal Energy Audits (GPTEA)”
