9.30am K-12 Assembly Sean W Smith presenting
At last Friday's assembly, we
had a wonderful time of
looking back at the Stage 3
Canberra Excursion and the
Secondary Camp. We looked
at the Stage 3 excursion video (thanks for doing the
edit, Mr Parker) and the Secondary Camp video
(thanks to James Duggan), saw some Stage 3 skits
from their Talent Quest, and some students were
interviewed.
It was especially good to hear Secondary students
reflect on the messages about judgement that
challenged the students at the camp, and to hear from
Jono Becker that, even after coming to the same camp
site for six years, the Secondary Camp remains a
highlight and that this is the consensus of opinion
among our Senior students.
We believe that one reason this is so is that our school
believes in the value of relationships, and camps and
overnight excursions provide opportunities for these
to be strengthened in ways that are different from
what can happen at school.
Our God is a relational God who sacrificed to call us
into relationship with Him. Part of our response is to
be willing to build sacrificial, caring and long lasting
relationships with others, built on the truth of the
Gospel.
At this Assembly, we were also able to present a
number of our Stage 3 students with Certificates,
recognising their wonderful fundraising efforts in this
year's Shoalhaven Relay for Life. Well done to the
following students:
Layton Walsh, Joey Ellery, Ryan Davie, Lachie White,
Emily Frith, Sam Davie, Libby Yusuf, Morgan Dootson,
Taylor Clifton and Sam Chittick.
Don’t forget K - 6 Parent Teacher Interviews are on today
from 3.20 - 6pm and next Thursday 6th June.

AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE FOR NATIONAL
CAPITAL EXCURSION Students from Years 5 & 6 recently undertook an educational tour of the National Capital and participated in a variety of programs focused on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of experiences such as our Canberra excursion and is contributing funding under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate Program towards travel expenses incurred.
We would like to thank the Australian Government for the support for this program.

CSSA NATIONALS
REPORT FROM SAM ELLERY The Swimming and Athletics teams flew out on Tuesday the 21st of May to fly from Sydney to the Gold Coast to compete in the first National Christian School Games. The Basketball and Soccer teams had left the previous day.
After we landed we went to Ashmore Holiday Park where we were staying .
On Tuesday night there was an Opening Celebration which was the first time all five of the states got together. Nine hundred or more students from New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria were competing.
On Wednesday there were the semi-finals for the Soccer and semi-finals and finals for the Basketball. The Swim team came along to both of these to cheer on NSW. After that we went for a training session at Runaway Bay Olympic pool. We were all getting excited for the next day.
At 3:30pm on Wednesday the Athletics competition started and didn’t finish until about 8:30pm that night. We woke early the next morning to drive to the Brisbane/Chandler Aquatic Centre. The first race was the 13 Year Boys 200 IM. I wasn’t competing in this event but one of my friends from ICS won the race by almost ten seconds and took the first Gold medal of the day, while my other friend took second place and got silver.
My first event was the 50 butterfly which I won by almost 2 seconds. Then my 50 Backstroke which I also won by 2 seconds. My 50 Free was a bit of a letdown and only managed a bronze. Our 4 x 50 Freestyle Relay Team came through with another gold medal. Competing in my 4 x 50 Medley Relay Team was my favourite bit of the day. I swam the Butterfly leg and we managed another gold medal and a National Record which we broke by 3 seconds. My team consisted of myself, Nathan from ICS, Donald from Oxford Falls and Marko from William Carey. I have become good friends with these three boys.
At the end of all the competition NSW managed to win the Swimming (for the 13th time in a row), the Athletics, all four age groups in the Soccer and a gold, silver and bronze in the Basketball.
On Thursday night all five states went to the Outback Spectacular where we enjoyed dinner and a show. This was good fun because we could go around and make friends with people from the other states.
On Friday the whole 200+ competitors from NSW went to Movie World. We had a great time there. From Movie World we drove back to the airport and landed back in Sydney about 7:30pm. The whole thing was a great experience and I can’t wait until two years’ time when I can do it again!
Unit 3: Peter, the Rock
Week 5: Peter’s Message (Acts 4:5-22)
Big Idea: Peter’s message is that Jesus is the only one in all the world that can save people from their sin and bring them back to God. Peter was a rock, because he built his life on this message’s Rock – Jesus!

NCS VEGETABLE GARDEN On 15th June from 9 to 11am we are planning to have a ‘garden blitz’ of the primary kitchen garden. During this time we plan to clear the beds and generally tidy up the garden. This will involve jobs such as mulching paths, cleaning out garden beds, emptying and spreading compost as well as some other general clean up tasks. Once this is done the students will be able to get stuck into some more planting.
If you are available, please hold this date and notify Mr McLennan at [email protected]
There will be activities for children (play equipment, sports equipment) and some morning tea at the end.
PLEASE MARK THIS DATE ON YOUR CALENDAR
HAMLET EXCURSION On Wednesday 15th May, the whole of our Advanced English class (with Mrs Thompson and Mrs Griffin) travelled to the Seymour Centre in Sydney to watch Bell Shakespeare's take on the play “Hamlet”. The play was performed really well, with a lot of dramatic tension, beautiful acting and a couple of quirky moments.
The play incorporated the original speech and manner, whilst incorporating a bit of a modern look.
Afterwards, we were able to ask the actors some questions about the play and what they had learnt and why they performed that way. All in all, it was a very good performance. Report by Matthew Eldridge.
HEALTHY
LIVING TIP Take the kids for a walk. If their
pace is too slow, add some lunges, jumping jacks, or running in place
every few minutes to make yourself work harder.

KINDER, YEARS 1 & 2
AFL GALA DAY On Thursday 16th May, Kindy, Years 1 & 2 boarded a bus to head to Nowra Showground to took part in an Infants AFL Gala Day. It was a great day where we met with students from other local schools to play sport and have fun!
We played many games and joined in activities that were designed to improve our throwing, catching and kicking skills for AFL.
Some of our favourites were canyon ball, kicking the ball to try to hit the post, target throwing, octopus and sharks, to name a few. The most popular activity of all was the TACKLE MAN. This was when even the smallest of us got to run up to the tackle man, yelling loudly, to tackle him as hard as possible to knock him over.
Everyone had a great time. It was great that some parents could come to see what we were doing too. Thank you to the teachers for coming with us. We hope you enjoy the pictures. Report from Mrs Hefferan.
AIMEE PARSONS Last Friday Aimee was a guest on 2ST’s “Three Way Turf Chat” with Charles Maxwell, Graham French John Hanscombe from SRC to chat about being selected to attend the prestigious NASA International Space Camp in July in Alabama in the US.

Last week the SRC went on an excursion to three different waste management centres. There were 22 students from Years 2-12. The first place we visited was an Electronic Waste Centre in South Nowra. It was fascinating to see how this local company disassembles and recycles or reuses all sorts of electronic devices that we throw away. Once they have finished their processes there is only 5% of the original items that ends up in landfill. The recycling centre at Bomaderry was our next stop. We watched two men sort through all the stuff that goes into a yellow bins such as milk containers, paper and soft drink cans. They pulled out all the milk and other plastic containers and threw them into a separate metal crate. Then they would move the crate with a forklift and then crush it into a bundle and send it off to other useful places. There we also learned about polystyrene and how difficult this is to keep out of landfill.
The final destination was the Waste Management Centre at West Nowra. We were able to drive down to where all the landfill trucks dispose of the landfill. We learnt that within 10 years from now there will be no more room at the site and our community will be looking for an alternative site. This excursion gave us lots to think about and the SRC is now keen to look at how we can recycle, compost better and reuse here at NCS.
